Group Discussion Board Instructions
In Modules/Weeks 2–7, you are required to participate in Group
Discussion Board Forums that are designed to facilitate a
community learning experience through threads and replies
mimicking face-to-face discussion. You will be assigned to a
group by your instructor.
4. In the group discussion board forums 1-4 you will have guiding
questions to assist you in completing the assignment. You are
NOT to answer the questions, you are to use the questions to
help you better understand your organization relative to that
particular lens. Your discussion board post should be a
discussion of how you better understand your organization
based on the guiding questions. You must also discuss the
strengths and weaknesses of the lens being discussed.
THREAD:
For each forum, post a thread in response to the topic prompt
provided. Your thread must contain a minimum of 250 words
and a maximum of 300 words and demonstrate course-related
knowledge. This promotes writing that is thorough yet concise
enough to permit your peers to read all of the threads. Each
thread must adhere to current APA writing guidelines and any
references included in the thread must be formatted in current
APA style. Since this is a personal discussion, you are allowed
to use first-person perspective; however, you must maintain
professional decorum in all your threads and replies.
Please note, this assignment should not be a reiteration of the
answers you use in your case study, rather, for the Group
Discussion Board assignments you are being asked to discuss
how answering the questions help you to better understand your
organization. That is, explain how the questions have helped
you understand your organization better. For example, when
discussing your views on the structural theories lens in Forum
1, you might say “viewing the chain of command helped me to
realize….” or “after considering the span of control, it is clear
that….” You do not have to share your views on each of the
guiding questions.
REPLIES:
After reading all of your group members’ threads, you must post
replies to at least 3 of them. Each reply must be 125–150 words
5. in length. All replies must adhere to current APA writing
guidelines.
Be sure to click reply within the thread in which you intend to
respond. Also, please note that “I like what you said,” “That’s a
good comment,” and “I disagree with your comment” do not
count as a complete reply in and of themselves. However,
stating why you liked or disliked the comment, adding
additional thoughts or ideas to the original comment, and/or
providing alternative ideas or thoughts when you disagree,
count as a reply. Courtesy in any disagreement is expected.
Thus, personal attacks are not acceptable and will count against
your grade.
Since one of the goals of the Discussion Board is to encourage
student community learning, the instructor will not reply to
every thread and reply. Rather, the instructor will reply to a few
threads in a way that adds to the conversation, asks a pertinent
question, or summarizes some of the key points made by
students.
Submit your threads by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Thursday of the
assigned module/week and your replies by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on
Sunday of the same assigned module/week.
