GENERAL  STRUCTURE            OF TURKISH NATIONAL EDUCATION  SYSTEM
TheTurkishEducationSystemtomeettheeducational needs of individuals in a holisticmanner “formaleducation”  and “non-formal education”  consist of  two mainparts
               FORMAL EDUCATIONFormaleducation, thesamelevel of a certainagegroupandforindividuals in undertheumbrella of programsdeveloped in accordancewiththepurpose of theregularschooleducation. Formaleducationcoverspre-schooleducation, primary, secondaryandhighereducationinstitutions
PRE-SCHOOL EDUCATIONPre-schooleducationconsist of theeducation of childrenbetween 3-6 yearswhohave not reachedthecompulsoryprimaryeducationbased on option. Pre-schooleducationinstitutions, established as an independentprimaryschools, such as classes of applicationsduetogirlsvocationalhighschoolsandkindergardenwhicharetiedtoothereducationalinstitutions. Thepurpose of pre-schooleducation is togainphysical, mental, emotionalprogressandacquiregoodhabits, thepreparationfortheirprimaryeducationtogivetheconditionsforchildrenfromdisadvantaged background andtoprovide a common habitat forchildrenandtoprovideTurkishlanguageto be spokencorrectlyandwell.In 2005-2006 academicyear  in 17,634 pre-schooleducationinstitutions 549,604  childrenarebeingeducatedand in theseinstitutions 22,789 teachersareworking.
PRIMARY EDUCATİONPrimaryeducationconsists of trainingandeducation of children in between 6-14 agegroup. Thepurpose of primaryeducationaccordingtothebasicinformation, skill, behaviorandhabitgain, togrowupwithnationalmoralityandtoprepareforuppereducation.Primaryeducation is compulsoryfor men andwomenforallcitizensand at stateschools is it free. Primaryeducationinstitutionsconsist of eight-yearschool. Intheseschools, continiouseducation is givenandprimaryschool diploma is giventowhomfinish. In 2005-2006 academicyear 34.990 in schools 10.512.356 childrenarebeingeducatedand 392.481 teachersareworking.
SECONDARY EDUCATION Secondaryeducationcoversallthe minimum fouryears general, vocationalandtechnicaltrainingwhicharebaned.Thepurpose of secondaryeducation is toprovidestudentswith a common general culture, promoteindividualandcommunityproblemsandseeksolutionsgivingthemtheconscious of contributingtothesocio-economicalandculturaldevelopment of thecountrytopreparethestudentstobothhighereducationandtotheircareesandbusinessfieldsaccordingtotheirinterest, capasityandability.
SecondaryEducation is of twosections;General secondaryeducationVocationalandTechnicalsecondaryeducation
Secondaryeducationconsist  of  highschoolswhichhave a variety of programsstudentsfind a wayto be grownupbyapproachingone of theseprogramswiththeseabilitiesandwishes.Thepurpose of general secondaryeducation is the general culture , torecognizetheproblems of society is toraisepeoplewhocontributetheeconomicculturalandsocial of development of thecountryandtopreparethemto a highereducation.
General secondaryeducation is of general HighSchools, AnatolianHighSchools, ScienceHighSchools, SocialSciencesHighSchools,AnatolianTeacherHighSchools, Spor HighSchools, AnatolianFineArtsSchoolsandMulti-programmedHighSchools
Vocationalandtechnicalsecondaryeducation; Schoolsareinstitutions. Tearingmantoworkandbusinessfieldsandpreparingstudentstohighereducation. Vocationalandtechnicalsecondaryeducationconsists of. Maletechnicalschools, girls’ technicalschools, tradeandtourismschoolsandreligiousteachingschools.In 2005-2006 academicyear in 7.443 schools of 4.038 vocationalandtechnicalschools 3.213.605 students (2.037.490 general, 1.176.115 arebeingtaught in vocationalandtechnicalsecondaryeducation) 184.246 teachers (101,907 general 82.339 vocationalandtechnicalsecondaryeducation) areworking.
HİGHER EDUCATIONHighereducationincludes , giving at leasttwoyearshighereducationbased on secondaryeducation , trainingthe top levelmanpowerandscientificresearchfields personel alleducationinstitutions.Highereducationincludesthesesubstances:1) Totrainstudentsinterestsandabilities in lineaccordingtoourcountry’ssciencepolicyandneeds of thecommunityhigh-levelmanpower2) To do scientificeducation a variety of stages3) tomakereviewandresearchforscientific, technicalandculturalproblemstosolve4) toresearchourcountry'sconcerningprogressanddevelopmentalltheproblemsandtooffertheresults of this5) to do broadcastallkinds of providingthedevelopment of advancement of scienceandtechnology6) toraisethe general level of societyandtosharescience data withpeople.Highereducationconsist of universities, faculties, institutes, colleges, conservatoriesThereare 53 stateuniversitiesand 26 privateuniversities in ourcountryOurcountry(includingprivateuniversities) 2.073.428 studentsarebeingeducated , 26.029 instructorand 48.878 teachingstaffareworking.

Pre-schooleducationinstitutions, established as an independentprimaryschools, such as classes of applicationsduetogirlsvocationalhighschoolsandkindergardenwhicharetiedtoothereducationalinstitutions. Thepurpose of pre-schooleducation is togainphysical, mental, emotionalprogressandacquiregoodhabits, thepreparationfortheirprimaryeducationtogivetheconditionsforchildrenfromdisadvantaged background andtoprovide a common habitat forchildrenandtoprovideTurkishlanguageto be spokencorrectlyandwell.In 2005-2006 academicyear in 17,634 pre-schooleducationinstitutions 549,604 childrenarebeingeducatedand in theseinstitutions 22,789 teachersareworking.
  • 5. PRIMARY EDUCATİONPrimaryeducationconsists of trainingandeducation of children in between 6-14 agegroup. Thepurpose of primaryeducationaccordingtothebasicinformation, skill, behaviorandhabitgain, togrowupwithnationalmoralityandtoprepareforuppereducation.Primaryeducation is compulsoryfor men andwomenforallcitizensand at stateschools is it free. Primaryeducationinstitutionsconsist of eight-yearschool. Intheseschools, continiouseducation is givenandprimaryschool diploma is giventowhomfinish. In 2005-2006 academicyear 34.990 in schools 10.512.356 childrenarebeingeducatedand 392.481 teachersareworking.

SECONDARY EDUCATION Secondaryeducationcoversallthe minimum fouryears general, vocationalandtechnicaltrainingwhicharebaned.Thepurpose of secondaryeducation is toprovidestudentswith a common general culture, promoteindividualandcommunityproblemsandseeksolutionsgivingthemtheconscious of contributingtothesocio-economicalandculturaldevelopment of thecountrytopreparethestudentstobothhighereducationandtotheircareesandbusinessfieldsaccordingtotheirinterest, capasityandability.

Maletechnicalschools, girls’ technicalschools, tradeandtourismschoolsandreligiousteachingschools.In 2005-2006 academicyear in 7.443 schools of 4.038 vocationalandtechnicalschools 3.213.605 students (2.037.490 general, 1.176.115 arebeingtaught in vocationalandtechnicalsecondaryeducation) 184.246 teachers (101,907 general 82.339 vocationalandtechnicalsecondaryeducation) areworking.
