My profound Thanks and Appreciation is given to those people that have helped bring
Sacred Breath through its long birthing process.

I would also like to acknowledge my appreciation to all of my Reiki and Non-Reiki
teachers, and the many spiritual teachers over the years. Without the touch of Spirit
and all that have made this journey with me, I would not have found my Sacred
                                        Breath.

                                                                                         2
Introduction

Good Day and Many Shared Blessings!

My name is Wanda Ruffner, a native of the beautiful state of Virginia, USA.
I offer this manual in hopes that for some, it will be a place of comfort, sharing of
hearts and possibly a reawakening to something that is deep within us all. A place of
balance of breath - body, mind, and spirit. The ability to heal ourselves is a natural
and simple thing; sadly we have allowed that ability to be lost. Now more than ever in
this time of changes, we need the ability to heal.

Sacred Breath is about many thoughts and customs, for me it is shamanic in thought
process for me, as I walk a shamanic path, to others it may be totally different. There
are no hard fast rules just some basics and each person that works with Sacred Breath
brings with them their own spiritual thoughts/beliefs making it a system a personal
journey of awakening a place within oneself. Although this is a self-healing system, it
is also for healing others and our Mother Earth.

The Sacred Breath journey began for me about thirty years ago, although the
awakening to this system itself only began to manifest a few years ago. As a young
woman I had began to question my faith due to a very deep and devastating loss. For
a time, I don’t think that I believed in anything. I felt numb and unable to even give
or receive love. So my need to understand whom I believed in or if I believed that
God even existed was put to the test. I won’t tell you that it was an easy road, I went
down many paths and turns seeking for answers to my “whys” but I found my way
home. Over the years, I have spoken to many people that do healing work and found
that many had also been hurt deeply or suffered loss in one way or another. After
experiencing the effects of hands on healing for the first time, I knew this was what I
wanted to do.

                                                                                     3
Let me make an attempt at explaining exactly what the Sacred Breath is and what is
not, although my first thoughts were that this was another system of Reiki but have
now realized that it is not.

Sacred Breath initiation takes us back to the beginning of time.. Before there were any
of us walking upon the mother. I want to take you on walkabout with me, Together
finding a part of ourselves that has been long forgotten or hidden from our
memories, a place where we can re-connect to our sacred songs and dance into
existence once again our ability to heal not only others and ourselves but to send
healing to the very core of the planet that we walk on, perhaps it will take closer to
answers to some of our heart questions.

Sacred Breath is not about being religious; it’s not about a particular belief system but
rather bringing us all together as one family. No prejudice... no color, no ethnic
background... just one family living upon the Mother’s back. It’s about love, respect,
sharing of hearts. We Are One.

I have studied many systems of hands on healing, both Reiki and non-Reiki systems.
I will have to admit that sometimes we humans feel like more is better, and that less is
lacking, so why offer something new. The answer to that; is that this is certainly not
new, it’s always been there. There is nothing more vital to life than breath, for
without it... We cease to exist. There is nothing more vital to existence than being as
one breath with the Creator.

In this system although breathing properly is of greatest importance, what I am about
to share with you goes beyond the physical. Sacred Breath is not about teaching you
proper breathing techniques, it’s about touching, seeing, and hearing the heart beat
of the earth mother, herself…knowing the she lives... She breathes and heals us. The
space, and those that walk/crawl upon her, beneath her (grandmother earth), fly and
are above her (Winged Ones, Father Sky, Grandmother Moon) all are a part of the
total scheme of things. The knowing has to become of the sacred space within us.
It’s about the breath of God/Goddess.

In the beginning of my journey with Sacred Breath … I was told that I was to bring to
this journey a number of symbols, six to be exact. They were given to me in visions of
the dream lodge. I thought at the time that these symbols would be used by all
Master/Healers but have now been given the information that it was actually only to
initiate the first Masters. These symbols were to unite us in a common goal of
birthing Sacred Breath and it spread across a world of people that their journey of

                                                                                       4
remembering the “first breath” would manifest. Oddly enough, each one that I gave
the symbols too came up with different meanings.. This assured me that it was as how
it was told to me… Sacred Breath will effect and bring to the place of the heart...
Different illumination to each person that has or will be attuned/initiated into this
system. Sacred Breath will never be a completed system, all bound in a manual to
never been changed. It will evolve with time as we evolve. It will continue to grow
within the hearts and spirit of each that comes to a place of remembrance of the
Sacred Breath. Their input and experience with the Sacred Breath will bring also new
growth and understanding to all of us.

For some, it will never go any further than the initial attunement; they may or may
not contribute or feel any of the birthing pains. It may fall by the wayside or stagnate
as still waters, but for some it will deepen and grow within, with each day more light
unto their path will manifest. Once attuned know that it will never be lost for us,
even if there are years that you do not work with these energies….. It will always be a
part of our journey regardless if it is known on a conscious level or not.

I was also told that I am to give attunements to each Master, and the ability to use
Ethereal Moqui Stones, one to be placed in each hand during initiation and also
during healing attunements. I had also decided to offer those being initiated to be
attuned to other Ethereal Crystal work, this is not mandatory or part of the basic
initiation but rather to those that feel called to work with crystals. Once attuned, the
student could work with ethereal crystals along with Sacred Breath or in a separate
manner. The student would be given the lineage for the Ethereal attunements that I
had received as a separate system/attunements. As we all know, purchasing crystals
can be an expensive task, it is also nice to not have to carry a selection of stones with
you or not have one that you wanted to work with. I have included in this manual a
selection of stones and their purposes for your information. Here is a little more
detail about the Moqui or Shaman Balls. The Moqui Stones are used during your
initiation.

                    MOQUI (MO-KEY) MARBLES/MOCHI BALLS

                                                                                        5
These ironstone concretions are found at the base of the Navajo Sandstone formation
and come in sizes from small marbles to baseball sizes. Mochi Balls have been used for
centuries by the shamanic tribes of the continents. Although newly discovered in the
United States, the Mochi have been found on several continents in the ancient
archaeological excavations. They are recommended to the user of both the ancient
ways and the future ways. Mochi Balls can be used to align the energy centers, to
relieve energy blockages, to stimulate the CHI, to ground and center, and to provide
protection. Grinding with two Mochi Balls promotes receptivity to frequencies, which
are usually inaudible. The journey with the Mochi balls allow one to live to the fullest,
while understanding the sanctity of, and performing healing for the earth. Mochi Balls
need no special care, they are lovely to hold and act to protect when placed in ones
environments, the energy being like a good friend. Manifested by nature, enjoyed by
mankind, the Mochi Balls brings the synthesis of the male/female duality, and the
actualization of singularity, allowing one to recognize the self, and the independence
and liberty of ones nature. Mochi Balls are said to have been used for visioning, and
for journeying, they were sacred among Shaman stones were placed on many cultures
altars including early pagan Christians around 1-12AD. Sacred among the Shamanic
members of ancient tribes, they were also used in rituals to contact extra-terrestrials,
for visioning and for journeys by the Shamanic members of the ancient tribes.

Along with the stones, and my drum which I play during initiation... There is also a
part of the ceremony where I give abreath over a golden eagle feather. As we all know
here the US... to possess a golden eagle feather is illegal... so it will not be an actual
feather but rather a visioned on manifestation from the third eye. There are several
artists that hand paint imitation eagle feathers and would be good to use or one could
also use a wild turkey feather, which represents the “earth eagle”. This decision of
course is left up to each individual. Upon initiation, you will be attuned to the
essence of the Golden Eagle… so if you choose to do so, an actual feather is not
needed.

Significance of the Golden Eagle

The GOLDEN EAGLE is the most highly respected and sacred of birds. Soaring high,
he delivers prayers to the Great Spirit, returning with gifts and visions. To many, he is
the Keeper of the East from whence comes dawn and illumination of darkness. The

                                                                                         6
Eagle's keen eyes see in all directions, knowing both future and past. The breath
movement over the ethereal feather brings the one receiving the attunement the
ability to fly with the golden one. It enables us to see more clearly what path we must
walk to be in balance with not only our physical bodies but our spiritual path as well.

I am further told that each time someone is initiated they are to be given either
ethereal stones or when possible given from the physical world. Giving them on an
ethereal level is likely the most practical, aside from financial the fact they are slowly
becoming more difficult to obtain. As I stated earlier, is part of the initiation to be
attuned ethereally to the shaman stones and the golden eagle feather and you will
also have the ability to pass that in your attunements to others.

As information is birthed and becomes available, this small manual that is offered will
undoubtly grow. It is hoped that as more Master/Healers are attuned they too will
share information that has become available to them as well. It is up to all
Master/Healers to keep up with the changes and hopefully given to those that they
                                   have attuned.

Let me say to you that the Sacred Breath is not something that is the same for each of
us but a personal journey of understanding. What this system is for me may or may
not be the same for each of you. It simply is a link or bridge to connect you with that
sacred part of self. May each of your journeys bring you to a place of Oneness with
the Creator of all things. May you find peace in your heart place.

For me, this journey is a place of the beginning of life; it’s the place of the Wind.. The
Grandmother... The Grandfather... The sacred union of the two and the very first
breath of life…. Before there was a two-legged…. Before there were four-leggeds…
before the belly crawlers emerged... there was only a void and out of this void
emerged the breath that was given to bring fourth all life... That is the place of the
Sacred Breath… What will this journey bring to you? Perhaps something that you
have been seeking for a long time…

Come….Let our journey begin… walk with me into a place of dreams and visions
I want to take you on walkabout with me, Together finding a very sacred part of
ourselves that has been long forgotten or hidden from our memories, a place where

                                                                                              7
we can re-connect to our sacred songs and dance into existence our ability to heal
ourselves/others and to send healing to the very core of the planet that we walk on.
This is the place of the hearth, the fire that burns within.

                                      The Breath

                                    Oh Great Spirit,

Holder and Giver of the Breath of all that lives...

The Two-legged who walk the Turtle’s Back

The Four-legged ones that share this place and teach us to walk gently taking only
                                   what we need.

The Belly-Crawlers, who know every blade of grass and grain of sand

The Winged Ones... who give us the ability to see above the clouds

The Standing Talls , the Stone Lodge People that can teach us of the history of the
                             sacred earth beneath our feet.

The water that nourishes and cleanses the body..

The Sun that warms our flesh…

                                                                                        8
The Moon that lights our way and controls the tides…

Great Spirit, all these things you have given to us... and yet we still stumble and fall
and yet you continue to be as a gentle parent...Always forgiving and always loving.

You have always been and will always be…

The four Winds sing to us and touch us with the Breath... that we may know our past
and learn from the old ones.

Great Spirit, I stand before you as a child... one just learning how to crawl... teach me
the way to walk a path of balance, joy and may my eyes only know the beauty that
resides in all things made by you.

                                          Aho…

                                      Breath work

As with all breath work healing energies, I always do a smudging ceremony prior to
beginning. I use Cedar or Sage to cleanse myself and the area that I am working in.

When possible, its great when you can do this work outdoors... when not possible,
perhaps you can open a window a small amount to allow the wind to enter.

Breath of the East Wind and the Elemental Breath of Air

Begin by standing facing the direction of the east, calling forth the Winds of the East...
the direction of illumination, it is said to be the direction that one can most closely
connect with the Creator. Light a yellow candle and Stand for a few moments
quietly... feel the wind gently touching your cheek.

Sit and get yourself comfortable as possible… Allow yourself to take in a deep breath
through the nose, allow the lungs to fill to capacity and hold that breath for a count
of five and release it slowly out through the mouth… pay attention to the breath

                                                                                           9
take in a breath allowing only the stomach to expand... Focusing your attention
only on the stomach... watch it rise and fall. Place both hands, palms down upon your
abdomen pressing lightly as your exhale. Do this three or four times. Now focusing
again on your breath take a deep breath into the lungs, focus on just taking the
breath into the chest area... watch the rise and fall of the chest. Do this for three or
four breaths and relax. The East is the place of new beginnings and ideas. The place of
the rising sun and a new day, the East is a place of empowerment to assist you in
walking a good path…. Allow yourself to be filled with the color yellow... the color of
the East Wind, and the elemental breath of Air.

Hummingbird, the owl, the hawk and the Golden Eagle are the animals of air / wind
of the east. Our words are given in smoke in the air or our voices in the air that it
may be carried to Great Spirit.

Breath of the West Wind and the Elemental Breath of Water

Begin by standing facing the direction of the West, calling to the Winds of the West...
the direction of emotions and the setting Sun. I light a black or blue candle, but this
is something that you may or may not wish to do, it is of course your option. Stand
for a few moments quietly... feel the wind gently touching your cheek.

Allow yourself to take in a deep breath... allow the lungs to fill to capacity and hold
that breath for a count of five and release it slowing... letting go of any negativity or
pain. Return to sitting position.. Allow yourself to take in a deep breath through the
nose, allow the lungs to fill to capacity and hold that breath for a count of five and
release it slowly out through the mouth… pay attention to the breath… take in a

                                                                                       10

The West is the place of looking inward. It is also a place of preparation for winter
comes soon. It teaches us about completing tasks. This is a place to remind us of
shadows and trust, black is the color of changes taking place from this life. The
beaver, squirrel and snake are three animals that we can learn from, the beaver works
well with family to prepare, the squirrel gathers things needed to survive for the winter
(winter years) and the snake by shedding away its old skin (ideas or things no longer
needed or positive in your walk of balance and light) and the need for growth and
change.

Breath of the South Wind and the Elemental Breath of Fire

Begin by standing facing the direction of the South, calling forth the Winds of the
South.. the direction of passion and growth. I light a Red candle, Stand for a few
moments quietly.. feel the wind gently touching your cheek.

Allow yourself to take in a deep breath.. allow the lungs to fill to capacity and hold
that breath for a count of five and release it slowing.. letting go of any negativity or
pain. Return to sitting position.. Allow yourself to take in a deep breath through the

                                                                                        11
nose, allow the lungs to fill to capacity and hold that breath for a count of five and
release it slowly out through the mouth… pay attention to the breath take in a

pressing lightly as your exhale. Do this three or four times . Now focusing agin on
your breath take a deep breath into the lungs, focus on just taking the breath into the
chest area.. watch the rise and fall of the chest. Do this for three or four breaths and
relax.

South is the direction of manifestation of work or preparation, the fruit of your labors
so to speak. This is a place of maturing and growing into an adult to be that who was
are. It is the time to accept the change and learn to understand. The South is a place
of innocence.. Remembering the ability to believe as when you were a child and yet
bring it fourth.. It allows you to be able to believe in the unseen, a place to reclaim
that innocence/ability.

Fire

Rules: Energy, spirit, heat, flame, blood, sap, life, will, healing and destroying,
purification, bonfires, hearth fires, candle flames, sun.

Breath of the North Wind and the Elemental Breath of Earth

Begin by standing facing the direction of the North, Calling to the Direction of the
North... the direction of winter and wisdom. Light a white and or purple candle,
Stand for a few moments quietly... feel the wind gently touching your cheek.

Allow yourself to take in a deep breath... allow the lungs to fill to capacity and hold
that breath for a count of five and release it slowing... letting go of any negativity or

                                                                                        12
pain. Return to sitting position.. Allow yourself to take in a deep breath through the
nose, allow the lungs to fill to capacity and hold that breath for a count of five and
release it slowly out through the mouth… pay attention to the breath take in a breath
allowing only the stomach to expand... focusing your attention only on the
stomach... watch it rise and fall. Place both hands, palms down upon your abdomen
pressing lightly as your exhale. Do this three or four times. Now focusing again on
your breath take a deep breath into the lungs, focus on just taking the breath into the
chest area... watch the rise and fall of the chest. Do this for three or four breaths and
relax.

The North is a direction of our “winter years”.. or the time that mother earth sleeps
and is dormant, a place of purity and wisdom and a place of great healing. We learn
from this direction to contemplate what lessons we have learned, it is also a time of
rest and be grounded, much like a bear, white buffalo and moose not wasting energy
with knowing what winter brings.

When closing, I extinguish the candle; give thanks to Great Spirit for listening and to
the Winds that have gently touched my heart and Spirit. I also leave, if working
outside or inside, I still take outside a small gift of thanks to the animals, Mother
Earth and Father Sky. * If you are not into or are short of time, candles, smudging
are certainly an option that is a personal thing. It’s not necessary for you to do so, on
ly given here and an example of my personal preference.

EARTH

Rules: The body, growth, nature, sustenance, material gain, money, creativity, birth,
death, silence, chasms, caves, caverns, groves, fields, rocks, standing stones, mountains,
crystal, jewels, metal.

Angel: Gabriel.

Name of the North Wind: Boreas, Ophion.

Sense: Touch.

Plants: Comfrey, ivy, grains; barley, oats, corn, rice, rye, wheat.

Tree: Oak.

                                                                                       13
“Breath of the Rainbow”

Find yourself a comfortable chair, place or spot. Again, it’s always great when you can
work outside in nature. Knowing that is not always possible... sitting by a window
where the sun or moon can shine on you will work well also.

Now follow the butterfly as it travels through the rainbow. Notice that I said
through... as this journey takes us to the core of the rainbow, not just passing over it.

The butterfly symbolizes transmutation and new beginnings.

Take in a deep breath bringing with it the beginning of the rainbow... as you do this
feel yourself being touched by the butterfly …Breath out… allow yourself to be free
of any fear.. Breath in… know that you are safe and guarded by Spirit. With each
breath in, feel each color completely consume you and with this... you are changing…
evolving.. the breath brings in light, beauty and the joy of knowing that you are
becoming a new and healed creature…feel yourself becoming free as your wings
unfold and able to take flight becoming new, cleansed and ready to look at the world
through a new understanding. You are a new being of the Rainbow. Fly now with

                         your Rainbow Butterfly wings.

                              Breathing in the Moon

To be done on either the full moon or new moon.

                                                                                       14
When possible, please gift yourself with the wonder of working outside on the full
moon, or the new moon (dark moon)

If the temperature is permitting, place a blanket in a comfortable/quiet place.
Smudge the area with cedar or sage, if you do not have this material than use whatever
you have access to. You do not need a candle on full moon, because Grandmother
Moon is all the light you will need. If you are working with the dark moon than use a
single white or silver candle representing the hidden moon.

Lay down and look upward to the sky and stare into the face of the moon, it is said
that the moon is female, She controls the tides, and one could also say because a
woman Moontime is also every twenty-eight days... the number of days between full
                                 and dark moons.

As you become relaxed... paying attention to take a few deep breaths, relaxing
more… allowing yourself to become more and more relaxed… now close your eyes
and just let the moon regulate the rhythm of the breath. Just relax…. Let it be as it
should be.. Be stilled for a time until you can feel the pulling of the moon... she is
pulling any stress, strain or discomfort that you are feeling… just let it go…

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh…. Be stilled. When you feel that its time to get up then do so.
                              Don’t feel rushed.

                               Breathing in the Sun

When possible, please gift yourself with the wonder of working outside being with
nature and allowing the sun to warm you.

If the temperature is permitting, place a blanket in a comfortable/quiet place.
Smudge the area with cedar or sage, if you do not have this material than use whatever
you have access to. It’s better if you find a shady spot rather than in the direct
sunlight, you may fall asleep during this time and could easily be burned.

                                                                                     15
After getting settled in on your blanket... begins by looking up at the clouds. What
do you see? Can you see animals/people/objects? If there are no clouds this day, then
just look at the sky and its entire splendor… Allow yourself to take a couple deep
breaths... In through the nose… breathe in…hold to a count of five and exhale
                                   through the mouth.

Now, close your eyes and feel yourself receiving the energies of the sun…see the sun
up close... just like you could almost touch it... the flares that are erupting... the power
and the beauty…. Allow yourself to begin to relax… and just let go of any thoughts..
allow yourself to forget the drudgeries of the day, bills, commitments or any
discomfort…. Take in a deep breath, breathing in through the mouth... hold to a
count of five… and exhale through the nose. Again… feel with each inhalation..
Warmth, healing…. With each exhalation a letting go… of all things that are pulling
at you today…

Now allow the solar energy to control the rhythm of your breath... just lay back and
let yourself go to a place of visions and dreams... you are safe.. Spirit will watch over
you on your journey. Stay for a time and upon your return… take in one large deep
breath and exhale and with this breath give away all stress, anxieties or pain that is
holding you this day. Go about the rest of the day with new vigor and energy.

For those that are unable to be outside, try to be close to a window where you can
look out and observe the sun or moon... I try to make it as close to be outside as I
again, like opening a window or having plants/stones close to where I am working.
Even if you can only go out for a few moments… its adds so much.

* Tidbit * the Solar-Lunar breath can be more understood also in terms of balance.
The right nostril's breath controls solar rhythms and the left lunar rhythms, during the
morning the lunar breath should be stronger and during the evening the solar.

                                                                                         16
Hand Positions for Client Treatment

These are most of the reiki hand positions suggested for use in doing Reiki. You can
also work down the leg as well around the knee, ankle and foot. Always be respectful
when you place your hands on someone. Obviously, in some of the positions you will
want to work a few inches above the body. This works just as well as having your
hands on the body. I also find these appropriate for Sacred Breath use, although one
could certainly allow free movement of the hands and be guided where best suited. **
Please note that as with any hand on forms of healing, one should be careful not to
touch a client where they would feel uncomfortable. I believe it’s a good idea to
present the above to the client prior to doing a treatment... they may mark which
hand positions they do not feel comfortable with.

                                                                                 17
The positions showing above are for self-treatment..

                      Additional Aides / Information

Listed below are some “add ons”. This includes stones, flower essences, essential
oils and power animals. Feeling it appropriate, you may wish to use gifts of Spirit
to assist you in your healing work on yourself and others. I often use a
combination depending on what I feel will work the best for a particular problem
                                     or client.

                                                                                 18
Bach Flower Remedies

Agrimony...for people who keep their troubles hidden under a mask of pleasure
and happiness. The archetypal Agrimony person would be the sad clown, suffering
anguish inside by still the life and soul of the party. Their friends are often the last to
know that anything is wrong in the Agrimony person's life.

Sometimes Agrimony people turn to drink or drugs to help them maintain a mask of
happiness, and they tend not to like being alone since they find it harder to keep the
mask up when they are forced into their own company. Instead they will seek out
friends, parties and bright lights. Only at night when they are alone with their
thoughts will the mental torture they have repressed so successfully come back to
haunt them.

Agrimony is given to help Agrimony people to accept and come to terms with the
darker side of life and their own personalities, so that they can become more rounded
human beings. They will not lose their sense of humour, but they will laugh at their
troubles to dispel them, rather than laughing to hide them. As a mood remedy,
Agrimony helps anyone who is trying not to face a trouble and using jokes and
witticisms and smiles to avoid a painful reality.

Aspen...for any fear where the cause of the fear cannot be named. At one end of the
spectrum the Aspen fear can be no more than a sense of foreboding, an uneasy
anxiety that something unpleasant or frightening is going to happen. At the other it
can be a real terror, with physical symptoms such as the hair standing on end. At this
extreme Rock Rose could also be helpful.

Sometimes people think of Aspen as a night-time fear, as causeless emotions seem to
be uncanny. And of course if you were lying awake in a dark room scared of
something but not knowing what it was, then Aspen would be the remedy to take.
But in fact Dr Bach said that for fear of the dark itself Mimulus would be the
appropriate remedy to take, since the cause of the fear (the dark) can be named. And
nameless Aspen fears are just as likely to occur in full sunlight as on a dark night.

                                                                                          19
Centaury...for people who find it difficult to say 'no' to other people. They are kind,
gentle souls and like to be of help to others. But sometimes other more ruthless
people will take advantage of this, and instead of willing service the Centaury ends up
the slave of another's wishes.

The Centaury remedy does not harden the Centaury personality. Instead it supports
the development of courage and self-determination so that Centaury people are
better able to draw the line and make space where they can be themselves free of the
desires and commands of others.

Cerato…for people who lack faith in their own judgment. Faced with the need to
make a decision they are not like the Scleranthus people who hesitate and cannot
make up their minds, because they can come to a decision without too much trouble.
But having done so the doubts creep in and they are no longer sure if what they have
decided is right. They then go around asking for the opinions and advice of others.
They end up hopelessly confused or doing something that they know in their hearts is
not right for them.

Cerato is the remedy to give people in this state more faith in their judgement so that
they can listen to their inner voices and trust their intuition.

Cherry Plum...one of the remedies that Dr Bach grouped together under the heading
of 'Fear'. The Cherry Plum fear is very specific: it is the fear that one is going to lose
control of oneself and do something dreadful, which can include injuring others and
suicide. Cherry Plum is also the remedy for the loss of control when it has in fact
already taken place, and because because of the frantic fear and dread associated with
loss of control. (Think of the fear of a small child in a screaming, irrational rage.)
Fears of going mad and of acting irrationally are Cherry Plum fears.

Chestnut Bud...for people who fail to learn the lessons of life. They may repeat the
same mistakes over and over - for example, taking a succession of identical office jobs
and being surprised to find each one unfulfilling. In other cases, they see others
making a mistake and the results that arise, but then fail to apply this lesson to their
own lives and go right ahead and make the same mistake themselves.

Chicory...people are full of love and care for their families and friends. But they expect
to receive back all the love they give, with interest, and feel slighted and unnecessarily

                                                                                         20
hurt if they don't get what they expect. Also, their great love can lead them to hold
onto their loved ones and try to keep them dependent and close to hand. This can
stifle the development of other personalities, or simply drive them away.

When someone falls into this negative Chicory state the remedy is used to bring out
the positive side of the Chicory person: love given unconditionally and in freedom.

Clematis...for people whose minds drift away from the present into fantasies of the
future, or into alternative versions of the present. Often their dreams are of great
future success, creative endeavor and achievement, but the danger for people in this
state is that their dreams will remain fantasies because the Clematis person is not
sufficiently anchored in reality to make them happen.

The remedy helps to bring these people back to earth and back to themselves so that
they can build castles in life instead of in the air.

Sometimes the Clematis state is confused with the Honeysuckle state, but in fact the
two are quite different. In the Honeysuckle state the person is living in nostalgic
fantasies of the past or reliving old regrets; but the Clematis person's thoughts drift
away to imagined futures.

Crab Apple...known as the cleansing remedy, Its main use is to help people who feel
that they have something unclean or poisonous about them, or who dislike some
aspect of their appearance or personality.

Sometimes there might be very real things wrong with someone in this state, but they
will disregard the big problems and concentrate obsessively on the one thing that they
have fixed on. This is why Crab Apple is sometimes given to people to cleanse
obsessive, repetitive behavior such as hand-washing, re-checking that appliances are
unplugged, and so on..

                                                                                        21
Elm... remedy for people suffering a temporary loss of self-confidence due to the
overwhelming amount of responsibility they have taken on. Genuine Elm types are
people who are successful and carrying out work that they believe in, but at times feel
the weight of the charge on them and become depressed and concerned that they will
not be able to go on.

The remedy helps to dispel these feelings so that the Elm person can resume his or her
life without thought of failure.

The Elm state can be usefully contrasted with the Larch state: whereas people in the
former take up challenges willingly and then only later, and only occasionally, doubt
their abilities, Larch people are convinced they are going to fail right from the start,
and so they tend not to try things in the first place.

Gentian... remedy for the relatively mild downheartedness and despondency that
follows when something has gone wrong. As soon as things start to go right again this
kind of despondency tends to lift by itself, but the remedy can be used to lift it the
sooner so that the person is better able to make things go right, instead of just hoping
they will do so.

Gentian is often confused with Gorse, but in fact they can be told apart quite easily.
People in a Gorse state have decided to give up and so feel completely without hope.
They have pitched their tents and refuse to be encouraged, and even if they are
persuaded to try to find a way out they will do so grudgingly, assuring everyone that
there is no use even trying. People in a Gentian state are discouraged: but they will
soon pick up again when things start to go right.

Gorse...remedy for people who have given up belief that there is any hope for them. It
is a far stronger kind of downheartedness than the Gentian state, because Gorse
people almost willfully refuse to be encouraged, so certain are they that their case is
hopeless. If ill, they may think of themselves as incurable, or say that they inherited
this or that from their families so that nothing can be done for them.

Gorse is however classed by Dr Bach as a remedy for uncertainty, and not as a remedy
for despair like for example Sweet Chestnut. This demonstrates that the main problem
with Gorse people is a loss of certainty: if they can be persuaded to see things in a
different light their faith in their lives would be renewed and they could go forward
with a surer step. This is what the Gorse remedy helps to achieve.

Heather...for people who are obsessed with themselves, but who do not like to be
alone. Dr Bach called them 'buttonholers' because they do anything to keep people
with them, all the time talking at exhaustive length about their problems and illnesses,

                                                                                       22
great and small, until people begin actively to avoid them. Thus the thing Heather
people fear - loneliness - is brought about because of their own behavior.

The remedy is given to help Heather people see their own concerns in the context of
other people's. Having suffered themselves from the need to talk, they become good
listeners and great supports for others. As a result people seek them out for their
compassion rather than avoiding them because of their self-centeredness.

Holly...often thought of as the remedy for anger - but this isn't necessarily the case.
Where Holly is for anger, it will be because the anger is based specifically on hatred,
suspicion, envy or jealousy. But in other cases other remedies would be needed, such
as Impatiens when anger is due to impatience, Vervain where it is caused by a sense of
injustice, or Chicory where the angry person feels snubbed and hurt by ingratitude in
others.

Holly is for very negative, aggressive feelings directed at others. The basic problem is
an absence of love, and the remedy works to encourage generosity of spirit and
openness towards others.

Honeysuckle...for people who live in the past instead of the present. They feel that
their best days are behind them and that there is little to look forward to, and as a
consequence they prefer to dwell on past happiness’s (or past misfortunes). At a more
minor key, homesickness and nostalgia are also Honeysuckle states.

The remedy helps the person in this state to learn from the past without needing to
relive it, so that the person can progress on into the present and take joy from today
and tomorrow.

Hornbeam... used against feelings of exhaustion and tiredness that come before an
effort has been made. The person in this state feels that he or she is too tired to cope
with the demands of the day. It's easier to stay in bed or put off making a start - but if
an effort can be made to get started the weariness will fade, a sign that unlike the
Olive state this is a mental rather than a physical weariness.

                                                                                           23
Impatiens... as its name suggests, the remedy against impatience and against
frustration and irritability caused by impatience. Anyone can get into this state of
mind, but there are also genuine Impatiens types, who live life at a rush and hate being
held back by more methodical people. To avoid this irritation they try if possible to
work alone: the Impatiens boss is the one who sends staff home early so she can get
the job finished quicker!

The remedy helps these people be less hasty and more relaxed and patient with others
and where it is used to help calm agitated thoughts and feelings.

Larch...remedy for people who feel that they are not as good as others and that they
are bound to fail. They lack confidence in their ability to succeed and so often do not
even bother trying. (Elm people, where it is the desire to take on too much that
causes the temporary doubt.)

The remedy helps people in this state to go ahead regardless of thoughts of success
and failure. More able to take risks and be involved in life, they get more out of living.

Mimulus... remedy for known fears. In other words whenever you are frightened of
something or you are anxious about something, and you can say what that
something is, and then Mimulus is the remedy to take. Mimulus fears are everyday
fears - fear of public speaking, of the dark, of aggressive dogs, or of illness or pain.

Phobias such as the fear of spiders or of birds are also Mimulus fears, since the cause of
the fear can be named. Where the phobia is very great so that the sight of a spider for
example causes sheer terror, then Rock Rose might be given as well as or instead of
Mimulus. And where the fear is diffuse and there is general anxiety and apprehension
without a specific named cause then Aspen is the remedy to consider.

Mimulus is used as a type remedy for people who tend to be nervous, timid and shy
generally. Sometimes people of this type may blush easily or stammer, and they will
usually avoid social occasions and any event where they will be in the limelight.
Mimulus is the remedy to encourage the quiet courage and strength that lies hidden
in such people, so that they can face the everyday trials of life with steadfastness.

Mustard.., remedy for deep gloom and depression that descends for no apparent
reason out of a clear blue sky. People in this state often list all the reasons they have
to feel happy and contented, but still everything looks black and hopeless to them.

The remedy helps to dispel the clouds so that the person can once again find joy and
peace in life.

                                                                                            24
Oak...remedy for strong, steady people who never give up under adversity. Instead
they plod on with determination, and never consider resting until they are past the
point of exhaustion. Because they are so steady they often have many people relying
on them, and their sense of duty is strong, so that they can feel frustrated and
unhappy if illness or exhaustion get in the way of discharging duties.

So much is positive about the Oak person, but the negative side is the stubborn refusal
to rest or sit back when the need for rest is obvious to all around. The remedy is used
to help the Oak remain strong in adversity and not crack under the strain, while at the
same time a different wisdom is learned, so that the person in this state can learn when
not to strive.

Olive...remedy for tiredness and exhaustion after an effort of some kind, such as hard
physical or mental labour, or the long struggle against illness. It can be usefully
contrasted with Hornbeam, which is the remedy for tiredness felt even before an
effort has been made.

The remedy is given to restore feelings of strength and the faith needed to continue.

Pine... for people who blame themselves for something they feel they have done in
the past, some neglect of a parent, some fault in themselves, something they have left
undone, and for those who reproach themselves that, even though they may have
been successful in their work, they should have done better. They are never, as Dr Bach
writes in "The Twelve Healers", content with their own efforts or the results. They also
at times tend to claim responsibility for the mistakes made by others.

They are perfectionists and set themselves high standards, and this may cause them to
over-work and strain to do better, and when the strain becomes too much for the physical
body, they blame themselves for the ensuing illness as they feel they are failing in their
duty to others, to their work and the family responsibilities. This guilt-complex takes so
much of the joy out of their lives and they become despondent and begin to despair. They
can often feel so guilty about some minor matter that these thoughts fill their minds and
they are always asking for forgiveness.

Red Chestnut...for people who feel fear for the well-being of others: the husband
afraid when his wife goes out alone after dark, the mother fretting over what may
happen to her child at school. Red Chestnut fears are natural, normal concerns
magnified to the point where they may have a negative effect on the person who is
the object of concern, destroying confidence and undermining self-belief.

                                                                                       25
The remedy helps people in this state to send out calm, unworried thoughts to their
loved ones, so that instead of making everyone anxious they are rocks of strength on
whom others lean..

Rock Rose...remedy against terror. The Rock Rose state may start out as a Limulus,
Aspen or Red Chestnut state, but it is further along the path from any of these, being
a panicky, terror struck fear that makes conscious thought and decision next to
impossible. The remedy provides calm and courage. The self is forgotten and strength
reappears.

Rock Water...remedy for people who take self-repression and self-denial to extremes.
They are very wrapped up in themselves, seeking always to perfect themselves in some
way and setting themselves targets and being very unkind to themselves if they fail to
live according to their own rules. If they seek to influence others it is not directly but
by example only.

The Rock Water remedy does not stop people from having high ideals or from trying
to meet them. But it does help ease the excesses of the Rock Water personality, so
that people like this can show more flexibility when it is necessary, and are not so hard
on themselves.

Scleranthus...remedy for people who find it difficult to make up their minds which
option of two or more they ought to choose. The Scleranthus indecision commonly
affects the small decisions of life as much as the big ones: 'should I marry Joe or
Peter?' and 'should I buy a red notebook or a blue one?' are both Scleranthus states.

Sometimes the chronic uncertainty of the Scleranthus person manifests itself in other
ways. There may be mood swings and even motion sickness: although these
symptoms are not in themselves infallible guides to Scleranthus, but only signs that
this is a remedy to consider. In any case, the remedy is given to help the person to act
more decisively and know his or her own mind.

Star of Bethlehem...remedy for the after-effects of any shock, such as unexpected bad
news or an unexpected and unwelcome event. And it can be used just as well for the
effects of a shock received many years ago, even very early in childhood.

This is also the remedy for the sense of emptiness and loss that sometimes occurs
when a loved one dies or moves away, since this too can be a great shock to the
system. Star of Bethlehem is the comforting remedy to give in such circumstances.

Sweet Chestnut...remedy for people who have reached the limits of their endurance,
who have explored all avenues but see no way out of their difficulties, and who feel

                                                                                        26
that there is nothing left for them but annihilation and emptiness. Whereas people in
a Gorse state have fallen into a state of hopelessness when there are actually possible
solutions all around, the person in a Sweet Chestnut state is genuinely at the end of
the line: theirs is appalling, final despair.

The remedy helps people in this extreme state to remain masters of their lives and
renew their hope and strength. And sometimes a way out may open even at this stage
of life.

Vervain...people are perfectionists with a keen sense of justice and extreme mental
energy that they willingly throw behind those causes that they believe in. Their
enthusiasm can be infectious, and they feel a strong need to persuade others to their
own point of view.

At an extreme Vervain people can become fanatics, unable to listen to alternative
points of view, and they may put themselves under a great deal of stress because they
find it so hard to switch off and relax. The remedy is given to help people in this state
to pull back from time to time so that body and mind and be restored. It encourages
the wisdom to enjoy life and the passage of time instead of always feeling the need to
be active.

Vine...for people who know their own minds and think they know what is best for
others. They are mentally strong and enjoy the exercise of power, but in their negative
states this can lead them to dominate others by force alone. Tyrannical fathers and
overbearing bosses are typical negative Vines, in that they will expect absolute
obedience from others and will not be overly concerned with winning hearts and
minds as long as their orders are followed. In this respect they are very different from
Vervain people, who will attempt to convert others to their way of thinking: Vines are
content with the simple imposition of discipline.

In their positive aspect Vine people make wise, gentle and loving guides who can
inspire and lead others without resorting to force. The remedy is given to encourage
this positive side of the Vine nature.

Walnuts...remedy to help to protect against outside influences in general, and against
the effects of change in particular.

Walnut types are people who are fulfilling their purpose in life but who under the
influence of the opinions, theories or beliefs of others or of external circumstances in
general, may be led to doubt their path. They are not like Cerato people, who actively
seek out the opinions of others, but instead may be affected almost despite
themselves.

                                                                                       27
As a remedy against the effects of change, Walnut is useful at all the transitions of life,
from being born to teething to going to school to puberty to marriage to
childbearing to retirement and beyond. It helps to break links with the past so that the
person can move forward with confidence and without undue suffering.

Water Violet... remedy for those talented, capable people whose independence and
self-reliance can make them seem to be proud and disdainful of others. True Water
Violet people are quiet and dignified and prefer their own company or that of a few
close friends, but where their natural reserve has built a barrier between them and
others they may actually become lonely and be unable to make contact with others.
When this happens the remedy can help to bring them back into balance so that they
can be more involved with humanity.

White Chestnut...remedy for unwanted thoughts, worries and mental arguments,
which intrude into the mind and stop people from concentrating on things that they
should be doing. White Chestnut thoughts are repetitive and go nowhere, simply
circling round and round in the head like a stuck gramophone record.

The remedy is used to help people control their thoughts again so that they can deal
calmly and rationally with any underlying problems that might be causing the
trouble.

Wild Oat...remedy for people who feel that they want to do something worthwhile
with their lives but do not know in which direction they should move. So instead they
drift from occupation to occupation, but without finding their true path, which leads
in turn to feelings of frustration and consequent depression.

This state of indecision is not like the Scleranthus one, because in the case of
Scleranthus the path itself isn't in doubt, but rather the different ways of following it:
the different options are known. Wild Oat people do not know what their options are
because their goals are not defined.

The remedy helps people to find their true role, putting them back in touch with their
own basic purpose in life so that the way ahead seems obvious.

                                                                                        28
Wild Rose... for people who have accepted all that life throws at them and have given
up the struggle for fulfilment. Instead they have resigned themselves to the way things
are, to the extent where they don't even complain or seem particularly unhappy.
Instead they shrug their shoulders - there's no point complaining or trying to change
- and seem happy just to drift through life.

The remedy is given to reawaken interest in life. The positive Wild Rose person will
still be a happy-go-lucky type, but instead of apathy will feel a sense of purpose that
will bring increased happiness and enjoyment.

Willow... for people who feel resentful and bitter about the way their lives have gone.
They begrudge others their successes and happiness, and are reluctant to admit when
their own lives go well; preferring to concentrate on what is going wrong. Willow
people are grumblers, and when ill make bad patients because they are never satisfied
with what is done for them.

Willow can be compared to Holly in that it too is a negative state directed towards
others. But where Holly burns with hatred and suspicion, Willow smolders with
resentment and self-pity.

The remedy is given to encourage the rebirth of optimism and faith, and to help the
person in the negative Willow state to be more generous in praise of others and also
more aware of how his own negative thinking can attract the very ill-fortune that he
blames on others.

Angelica Root… has an earthy, green scent. Angelica has been used in Chinese
medicine for promoting fertility. Some traditional uses: for relieving fatigue,
migraines, to ease anxiety and nervous tension, to regulate menstrual cycles and
relieve dysmenorrhoea, for coughs, to restore sense of smell, for releasing
accumulated toxins in the body. Angelica root should be avoided if you are pregnant

The Gifts of Stone Lodge People
I decided to also include a small selection of the uses of stones. As we are to be
connected to all things given by the Great Spirit, I felt it appropriate to share some
                                  information here as well.

       ...

Above is a healing grid to use in correspondence with colors of the seven
charkas, there is a shaman stone to each side, placed in the palm of the client.
The stones can be placed directly on the body or under the table that you are
working. You may also use them ethereally as an alternative option.

You would then take the Golden Eagle feather and make a circular motion
moving from the first to the seventh charka and back down again... with each
charka stop for a moment and take a deep breath... holding it to a count of
five and then blow across the feather and stone at each charka bring them into
balance. If you are using Ethereal Stones, simple point your finger to each of
the charka to place an appropriate stone prior to beginning the breath.

                                                                                         39
Example: Point your index finger to the root charka and say “carnelian”… thus
activating the essence of the stone. You would do this using the appropriate
stone for each of the seven charkas.

but anyone who has ever worn or even carried a piece of Labradorite can tell
you exactly what it does. In fact, many people find its influence so unsettling
they cannot wear or carry it. As you rotate a piece of Labradorite, you will see
little flashes. Each of those little flashes will enhance any psychic event. People
report the impressions, visions, feelings, and events overwhelm them and they
must remove the piece of jewelry with the Labradorite in it after awhile. Others

Lapis lazuli or lapis for short is mostly lazurite but commonly contains pyrite

or greenish tints. The rich blue color is due to the sulfur that is inherent in the
structure of lazurite. The best source of lapis is in the remote mountains in
Afghanistan. It is also found in Chile and in lesser quantities elsewhere. It was
first mined in Afghanistan 6000 years ago. The rock was transported to Egypt
and present day Iraq and later to Europe where it was used in jewelry and for
ornamental stone. Lapis is one of the oldest spiritual stones known; it was
often considered the stone of royalty. It is often used in healing. The custom
has long been its use to help diseases of the blood. For soothing purposes all
the stone needs do is touch the skin. It is for this reason Lapis is often also used
to increase psychic awareness. Becoming calm is the first step in awareness.
Lapis strengthens the skeletal system and activates the thyroid. Through the
ages, lapis has been associated with power, wisdom, love, and most frequently

volcanic regions also used obsidian for weapons and tools. The smaller pebbles
of obsidian are referred to as Apache Tears.

OPAL
Opal varies in colors. The most common is a milky white with flashes of color
becoming visible as the stone is moved. Black Opal is dark as the name implies
and filled with bright flashes of all colors. There is Black Opal on the market
that started out as the more common milky form but has been treated with a
sugar solution and then sulfuric acid to turn it black, be careful. Mexican Fire
Opals are in the red-orange family of colors. Opal also occurs as Boulder Opal.
In the raw form you can see on the rock small patches of color and flash. The
Opal is cut leaving the rock as backing into many shapes and sizes. Fossils can
occur as Opals, the largest ever heard of is of a Plesiosaur found in Australia. It
is hard to imagine a 10-meter piece of Opal. Wood and seashells are more
common Opalized fossils. Opal is much sought out for its abilities, because it
contains the colors of every other gem, it can be used wherever another gem is
called for in magick. Opal is a noncrystalline form of quartz that contains a
small amount of water, because of all its other colors; it is associated with all

Sacred Breath Manual

  • 1. A Journey of Remembering Copyright 2002, 2003 Wanda S. Ruffner 1
  • 2. Acknowledgements My profound Thanks and Appreciation is given to those people that have helped bring Sacred Breath through its long birthing process. I would also like to acknowledge my appreciation to all of my Reiki and Non-Reiki teachers, and the many spiritual teachers over the years. Without the touch of Spirit and all that have made this journey with me, I would not have found my Sacred Breath. 2
  • 3. Introduction Good Day and Many Shared Blessings! My name is Wanda Ruffner, a native of the beautiful state of Virginia, USA. I offer this manual in hopes that for some, it will be a place of comfort, sharing of hearts and possibly a reawakening to something that is deep within us all. A place of balance of breath - body, mind, and spirit. The ability to heal ourselves is a natural and simple thing; sadly we have allowed that ability to be lost. Now more than ever in this time of changes, we need the ability to heal. Sacred Breath is about many thoughts and customs, for me it is shamanic in thought process for me, as I walk a shamanic path, to others it may be totally different. There are no hard fast rules just some basics and each person that works with Sacred Breath brings with them their own spiritual thoughts/beliefs making it a system a personal journey of awakening a place within oneself. Although this is a self-healing system, it is also for healing others and our Mother Earth. The Sacred Breath journey began for me about thirty years ago, although the awakening to this system itself only began to manifest a few years ago. As a young woman I had began to question my faith due to a very deep and devastating loss. For a time, I don’t think that I believed in anything. I felt numb and unable to even give or receive love. So my need to understand whom I believed in or if I believed that God even existed was put to the test. I won’t tell you that it was an easy road, I went down many paths and turns seeking for answers to my “whys” but I found my way home. Over the years, I have spoken to many people that do healing work and found that many had also been hurt deeply or suffered loss in one way or another. After experiencing the effects of hands on healing for the first time, I knew this was what I wanted to do. 3
  • 4. Let me make an attempt at explaining exactly what the Sacred Breath is and what is not, although my first thoughts were that this was another system of Reiki but have now realized that it is not. Sacred Breath initiation takes us back to the beginning of time.. Before there were any of us walking upon the mother. I want to take you on walkabout with me, Together finding a part of ourselves that has been long forgotten or hidden from our memories, a place where we can re-connect to our sacred songs and dance into existence once again our ability to heal not only others and ourselves but to send healing to the very core of the planet that we walk on, perhaps it will take closer to answers to some of our heart questions. Sacred Breath is not about being religious; it’s not about a particular belief system but rather bringing us all together as one family. No prejudice... no color, no ethnic background... just one family living upon the Mother’s back. It’s about love, respect, sharing of hearts. We Are One. I have studied many systems of hands on healing, both Reiki and non-Reiki systems. I will have to admit that sometimes we humans feel like more is better, and that less is lacking, so why offer something new. The answer to that; is that this is certainly not new, it’s always been there. There is nothing more vital to life than breath, for without it... We cease to exist. There is nothing more vital to existence than being as one breath with the Creator. In this system although breathing properly is of greatest importance, what I am about to share with you goes beyond the physical. Sacred Breath is not about teaching you proper breathing techniques, it’s about touching, seeing, and hearing the heart beat of the earth mother, herself…knowing the she lives... She breathes and heals us. The space, and those that walk/crawl upon her, beneath her (grandmother earth), fly and are above her (Winged Ones, Father Sky, Grandmother Moon) all are a part of the total scheme of things. The knowing has to become of the sacred space within us. It’s about the breath of God/Goddess. In the beginning of my journey with Sacred Breath … I was told that I was to bring to this journey a number of symbols, six to be exact. They were given to me in visions of the dream lodge. I thought at the time that these symbols would be used by all Master/Healers but have now been given the information that it was actually only to initiate the first Masters. These symbols were to unite us in a common goal of birthing Sacred Breath and it spread across a world of people that their journey of 4
  • 5. remembering the “first breath” would manifest. Oddly enough, each one that I gave the symbols too came up with different meanings.. This assured me that it was as how it was told to me… Sacred Breath will effect and bring to the place of the heart... Different illumination to each person that has or will be attuned/initiated into this system. Sacred Breath will never be a completed system, all bound in a manual to never been changed. It will evolve with time as we evolve. It will continue to grow within the hearts and spirit of each that comes to a place of remembrance of the Sacred Breath. Their input and experience with the Sacred Breath will bring also new growth and understanding to all of us. For some, it will never go any further than the initial attunement; they may or may not contribute or feel any of the birthing pains. It may fall by the wayside or stagnate as still waters, but for some it will deepen and grow within, with each day more light unto their path will manifest. Once attuned know that it will never be lost for us, even if there are years that you do not work with these energies….. It will always be a part of our journey regardless if it is known on a conscious level or not. I was also told that I am to give attunements to each Master, and the ability to use Ethereal Moqui Stones, one to be placed in each hand during initiation and also during healing attunements. I had also decided to offer those being initiated to be attuned to other Ethereal Crystal work, this is not mandatory or part of the basic initiation but rather to those that feel called to work with crystals. Once attuned, the student could work with ethereal crystals along with Sacred Breath or in a separate manner. The student would be given the lineage for the Ethereal attunements that I had received as a separate system/attunements. As we all know, purchasing crystals can be an expensive task, it is also nice to not have to carry a selection of stones with you or not have one that you wanted to work with. I have included in this manual a selection of stones and their purposes for your information. Here is a little more detail about the Moqui or Shaman Balls. The Moqui Stones are used during your initiation. MOQUI (MO-KEY) MARBLES/MOCHI BALLS 5
  • 6. These ironstone concretions are found at the base of the Navajo Sandstone formation and come in sizes from small marbles to baseball sizes. Mochi Balls have been used for centuries by the shamanic tribes of the continents. Although newly discovered in the United States, the Mochi have been found on several continents in the ancient archaeological excavations. They are recommended to the user of both the ancient ways and the future ways. Mochi Balls can be used to align the energy centers, to relieve energy blockages, to stimulate the CHI, to ground and center, and to provide protection. Grinding with two Mochi Balls promotes receptivity to frequencies, which are usually inaudible. The journey with the Mochi balls allow one to live to the fullest, while understanding the sanctity of, and performing healing for the earth. Mochi Balls need no special care, they are lovely to hold and act to protect when placed in ones environments, the energy being like a good friend. Manifested by nature, enjoyed by mankind, the Mochi Balls brings the synthesis of the male/female duality, and the actualization of singularity, allowing one to recognize the self, and the independence and liberty of ones nature. Mochi Balls are said to have been used for visioning, and for journeying, they were sacred among Shaman stones were placed on many cultures altars including early pagan Christians around 1-12AD. Sacred among the Shamanic members of ancient tribes, they were also used in rituals to contact extra-terrestrials, for visioning and for journeys by the Shamanic members of the ancient tribes. Along with the stones, and my drum which I play during initiation... There is also a part of the ceremony where I give abreath over a golden eagle feather. As we all know here the US... to possess a golden eagle feather is illegal... so it will not be an actual feather but rather a visioned on manifestation from the third eye. There are several artists that hand paint imitation eagle feathers and would be good to use or one could also use a wild turkey feather, which represents the “earth eagle”. This decision of course is left up to each individual. Upon initiation, you will be attuned to the essence of the Golden Eagle… so if you choose to do so, an actual feather is not needed. Significance of the Golden Eagle The GOLDEN EAGLE is the most highly respected and sacred of birds. Soaring high, he delivers prayers to the Great Spirit, returning with gifts and visions. To many, he is the Keeper of the East from whence comes dawn and illumination of darkness. The 6
  • 7. Eagle's keen eyes see in all directions, knowing both future and past. The breath movement over the ethereal feather brings the one receiving the attunement the ability to fly with the golden one. It enables us to see more clearly what path we must walk to be in balance with not only our physical bodies but our spiritual path as well. I am further told that each time someone is initiated they are to be given either ethereal stones or when possible given from the physical world. Giving them on an ethereal level is likely the most practical, aside from financial the fact they are slowly becoming more difficult to obtain. As I stated earlier, is part of the initiation to be attuned ethereally to the shaman stones and the golden eagle feather and you will also have the ability to pass that in your attunements to others. As information is birthed and becomes available, this small manual that is offered will undoubtly grow. It is hoped that as more Master/Healers are attuned they too will share information that has become available to them as well. It is up to all Master/Healers to keep up with the changes and hopefully given to those that they have attuned. Let me say to you that the Sacred Breath is not something that is the same for each of us but a personal journey of understanding. What this system is for me may or may not be the same for each of you. It simply is a link or bridge to connect you with that sacred part of self. May each of your journeys bring you to a place of Oneness with the Creator of all things. May you find peace in your heart place. For me, this journey is a place of the beginning of life; it’s the place of the Wind.. The Grandmother... The Grandfather... The sacred union of the two and the very first breath of life…. Before there was a two-legged…. Before there were four-leggeds… before the belly crawlers emerged... there was only a void and out of this void emerged the breath that was given to bring fourth all life... That is the place of the Sacred Breath… What will this journey bring to you? Perhaps something that you have been seeking for a long time… Come….Let our journey begin… walk with me into a place of dreams and visions I want to take you on walkabout with me, Together finding a very sacred part of ourselves that has been long forgotten or hidden from our memories, a place where 7
  • 8. we can re-connect to our sacred songs and dance into existence our ability to heal ourselves/others and to send healing to the very core of the planet that we walk on. This is the place of the hearth, the fire that burns within. The Breath Oh Great Spirit, Holder and Giver of the Breath of all that lives... The Two-legged who walk the Turtle’s Back The Four-legged ones that share this place and teach us to walk gently taking only what we need. The Belly-Crawlers, who know every blade of grass and grain of sand The Winged Ones... who give us the ability to see above the clouds The Standing Talls , the Stone Lodge People that can teach us of the history of the sacred earth beneath our feet. The water that nourishes and cleanses the body.. The Sun that warms our flesh… 8
  • 9. The Moon that lights our way and controls the tides… Great Spirit, all these things you have given to us... and yet we still stumble and fall and yet you continue to be as a gentle parent...Always forgiving and always loving. You have always been and will always be… The four Winds sing to us and touch us with the Breath... that we may know our past and learn from the old ones. Great Spirit, I stand before you as a child... one just learning how to crawl... teach me the way to walk a path of balance, joy and may my eyes only know the beauty that resides in all things made by you. Aho… Breath work As with all breath work healing energies, I always do a smudging ceremony prior to beginning. I use Cedar or Sage to cleanse myself and the area that I am working in. When possible, its great when you can do this work outdoors... when not possible, perhaps you can open a window a small amount to allow the wind to enter. Breath of the East Wind and the Elemental Breath of Air Begin by standing facing the direction of the east, calling forth the Winds of the East... the direction of illumination, it is said to be the direction that one can most closely connect with the Creator. Light a yellow candle and Stand for a few moments quietly... feel the wind gently touching your cheek. Sit and get yourself comfortable as possible… Allow yourself to take in a deep breath through the nose, allow the lungs to fill to capacity and hold that breath for a count of five and release it slowly out through the mouth… pay attention to the breath 9
  • 10. take in a breath allowing only the stomach to expand... Focusing your attention only on the stomach... watch it rise and fall. Place both hands, palms down upon your abdomen pressing lightly as your exhale. Do this three or four times. Now focusing again on your breath take a deep breath into the lungs, focus on just taking the breath into the chest area... watch the rise and fall of the chest. Do this for three or four breaths and relax. The East is the place of new beginnings and ideas. The place of the rising sun and a new day, the East is a place of empowerment to assist you in walking a good path…. Allow yourself to be filled with the color yellow... the color of the East Wind, and the elemental breath of Air. AIR Rules: The mind, all mental, intuitive and psychic work, knowledge, breath. Angel: Michael. Name of the East Wind: Eurus. Sense: Smell. Plants: Frankencense, myrrh, pansy, primrose, vervain, violet & yarrow. Tree: Aspen Hummingbird, the owl, the hawk and the Golden Eagle are the animals of air / wind of the east. Our words are given in smoke in the air or our voices in the air that it may be carried to Great Spirit. Breath of the West Wind and the Elemental Breath of Water Begin by standing facing the direction of the West, calling to the Winds of the West... the direction of emotions and the setting Sun. I light a black or blue candle, but this is something that you may or may not wish to do, it is of course your option. Stand for a few moments quietly... feel the wind gently touching your cheek. Allow yourself to take in a deep breath... allow the lungs to fill to capacity and hold that breath for a count of five and release it slowing... letting go of any negativity or pain. Return to sitting position.. Allow yourself to take in a deep breath through the nose, allow the lungs to fill to capacity and hold that breath for a count of five and release it slowly out through the mouth… pay attention to the breath… take in a 10

This is a place to remind us of shadows and trust, black is the color of changes taking place from this life. The beaver, squirrel and snake are three animals that we can learn from, the beaver works well with family to prepare, the squirrel gathers things needed to survive for the winter (winter years) and the snake by shedding away its old skin (ideas or things no longer needed or positive in your walk of balance and light) and the need for growth and change. Do this for three or four breaths and relax. The North is a direction of our “winter years”.. or the time that mother earth sleeps and is dormant, a place of purity and wisdom and a place of great healing. We learn from this direction to contemplate what lessons we have learned, it is also a time of rest and be grounded, much like a bear, white buffalo and moose not wasting energy with knowing what winter brings. When closing, I extinguish the candle; give thanks to Great Spirit for listening and to the Winds that have gently touched my heart and Spirit. I also leave, if working outside or inside, I still take outside a small gift of thanks to the animals, Mother Earth and Father Sky. * If you are not into or are short of time, candles, smudging are certainly an option that is a personal thing. • 14. “Breath of the Rainbow” Find yourself a comfortable chair, place or spot. Again, it’s always great when you can work outside in nature. Knowing that is not always possible... sitting by a window where the sun or moon can shine on you will work well also. Now follow the butterfly as it travels through the rainbow. Notice that I said through... as this journey takes us to the core of the rainbow, not just passing over it. The butterfly symbolizes transmutation and new beginnings. Take in a deep breath bringing with it the beginning of the rainbow... as you do this feel yourself being touched by the butterfly …Breath out… allow yourself to be free of any fear.. Breath in… know that you are safe and guarded by Spirit. With each breath in, feel each color completely consume you and with this... you are changing… evolving.. the breath brings in light, beauty and the joy of knowing that you are becoming a new and healed creature…feel yourself becoming free as your wings unfold and able to take flight becoming new, cleansed and ready to look at the world through a new understanding. You are a new being of the Rainbow. Fly now with your Rainbow Butterfly wings. Breathing in the Moon To be done on either the full moon or new moon. 14
  • 15. When possible, please gift yourself with the wonder of working outside on the full moon, or the new moon (dark moon) If the temperature is permitting, place a blanket in a comfortable/quiet place. Smudge the area with cedar or sage, if you do not have this material than use whatever you have access to. You do not need a candle on full moon, because Grandmother Moon is all the light you will need. If you are working with the dark moon than use a single white or silver candle representing the hidden moon. Lay down and look upward to the sky and stare into the face of the moon, it is said that the moon is female, She controls the tides, and one could also say because a woman Moontime is also every twenty-eight days... the number of days between full and dark moons. As you become relaxed... paying attention to take a few deep breaths, relaxing more… allowing yourself to become more and more relaxed… now close your eyes and just let the moon regulate the rhythm of the breath. Just relax…. Let it be as it should be.. Be stilled for a time until you can feel the pulling of the moon... she is pulling any stress, strain or discomfort that you are feeling… just let it go… Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh…. Be stilled. When you feel that its time to get up then do so. Don’t feel rushed. Breathing in the Sun When possible, please gift yourself with the wonder of working outside being with nature and allowing the sun to warm you. If the temperature is permitting, place a blanket in a comfortable/quiet place. Smudge the area with cedar or sage, if you do not have this material than use whatever you have access to. It’s better if you find a shady spot rather than in the direct sunlight, you may fall asleep during this time and could easily be burned. 15
  • 16. After getting settled in on your blanket... begins by looking up at the clouds. What do you see? Can you see animals/people/objects? If there are no clouds this day, then just look at the sky and its entire splendor… Allow yourself to take a couple deep breaths... In through the nose… breathe in…hold to a count of five and exhale through the mouth. Now, close your eyes and feel yourself receiving the energies of the sun…see the sun up close... just like you could almost touch it... the flares that are erupting... the power and the beauty…. Allow yourself to begin to relax… and just let go of any thoughts.. allow yourself to forget the drudgeries of the day, bills, commitments or any discomfort…. Take in a deep breath, breathing in through the mouth... hold to a count of five… and exhale through the nose. Again… feel with each inhalation.. Warmth, healing…. With each exhalation a letting go… of all things that are pulling at you today… Now allow the solar energy to control the rhythm of your breath... just lay back and let yourself go to a place of visions and dreams... you are safe.. Spirit will watch over you on your journey. Stay for a time and upon your return… take in one large deep breath and exhale and with this breath give away all stress, anxieties or pain that is holding you this day. Go about the rest of the day with new vigor and energy. For those that are unable to be outside, try to be close to a window where you can look out and observe the sun or moon... I try to make it as close to be outside as I again, like opening a window or having plants/stones close to where I am working. Even if you can only go out for a few moments… its adds so much. * Tidbit * the Solar-Lunar breath can be more understood also in terms of balance. The right nostril's breath controls solar rhythms and the left lunar rhythms, during the morning the lunar breath should be stronger and during the evening the solar. 16
  • 17. Hand Positions for Client Treatment These are most of the reiki hand positions suggested for use in doing Reiki. You can also work down the leg as well around the knee, ankle and foot. Always be respectful when you place your hands on someone. Obviously, in some of the positions you will want to work a few inches above the body. This works just as well as having your hands on the body. I also find these appropriate for Sacred Breath use, although one could certainly allow free movement of the hands and be guided where best suited. ** Please note that as with any hand on forms of healing, one should be careful not to touch a client where they would feel uncomfortable. I believe it’s a good idea to present the above to the client prior to doing a treatment... they may mark which hand positions they do not feel comfortable with. 17
  • 18. The positions showing above are for self-treatment.. Additional Aides / Information Listed below are some “add ons”. This includes stones, flower essences, essential oils and power animals. Feeling it appropriate, you may wish to use gifts of Spirit to assist you in your healing work on yourself and others. I often use a combination depending on what I feel will work the best for a particular problem or client. 18
  • 19. Bach Flower Remedies Agrimony...for people who keep their troubles hidden under a mask of pleasure and happiness. The archetypal Agrimony person would be the sad clown, suffering anguish inside by still the life and soul of the party. Their friends are often the last to know that anything is wrong in the Agrimony person's life. Sometimes Agrimony people turn to drink or drugs to help them maintain a mask of happiness, and they tend not to like being alone since they find it harder to keep the mask up when they are forced into their own company. Instead they will seek out friends, parties and bright lights. Only at night when they are alone with their thoughts will the mental torture they have repressed so successfully come back to haunt them. Agrimony is given to help Agrimony people to accept and come to terms with the darker side of life and their own personalities, so that they can become more rounded human beings. They will not lose their sense of humour, but they will laugh at their troubles to dispel them, rather than laughing to hide them. As a mood remedy, Agrimony helps anyone who is trying not to face a trouble and using jokes and witticisms and smiles to avoid a painful reality. Aspen...for any fear where the cause of the fear cannot be named. At one end of the spectrum the Aspen fear can be no more than a sense of foreboding, an uneasy anxiety that something unpleasant or frightening is going to happen. At the other it can be a real terror, with physical symptoms such as the hair standing on end. At this extreme Rock Rose could also be helpful. Sometimes people think of Aspen as a night-time fear, as causeless emotions seem to be uncanny. And of course if you were lying awake in a dark room scared of something but not knowing what it was, then Aspen would be the remedy to take. But in fact Dr Bach said that for fear of the dark itself Mimulus would be the appropriate remedy to take, since the cause of the fear (the dark) can be named. And nameless Aspen fears are just as likely to occur in full sunlight as on a dark night. 19
  • 20. Centaury...for people who find it difficult to say 'no' to other people. They are kind, gentle souls and like to be of help to others. But sometimes other more ruthless people will take advantage of this, and instead of willing service the Centaury ends up the slave of another's wishes. The Centaury remedy does not harden the Centaury personality. Instead it supports the development of courage and self-determination so that Centaury people are better able to draw the line and make space where they can be themselves free of the desires and commands of others. Cerato…for people who lack faith in their own judgment. Faced with the need to make a decision they are not like the Scleranthus people who hesitate and cannot make up their minds, because they can come to a decision without too much trouble. But having done so the doubts creep in and they are no longer sure if what they have decided is right. They then go around asking for the opinions and advice of others. They end up hopelessly confused or doing something that they know in their hearts is not right for them. Cerato is the remedy to give people in this state more faith in their judgement so that they can listen to their inner voices and trust their intuition. Cherry Plum...one of the remedies that Dr Bach grouped together under the heading of 'Fear'. The Cherry Plum fear is very specific: it is the fear that one is going to lose control of oneself and do something dreadful, which can include injuring others and suicide. Cherry Plum is also the remedy for the loss of control when it has in fact already taken place, and because because of the frantic fear and dread associated with loss of control. (Think of the fear of a small child in a screaming, irrational rage.) Fears of going mad and of acting irrationally are Cherry Plum fears. Chestnut Bud...for people who fail to learn the lessons of life. They may repeat the same mistakes over and over - for example, taking a succession of identical office jobs and being surprised to find each one unfulfilling. In other cases, they see others making a mistake and the results that arise, but then fail to apply this lesson to their own lives and go right ahead and make the same mistake themselves. Chicory...people are full of love and care for their families and friends. But they expect to receive back all the love they give, with interest, and feel slighted and unnecessarily 20
  • 21. hurt if they don't get what they expect. Also, their great love can lead them to hold onto their loved ones and try to keep them dependent and close to hand. This can stifle the development of other personalities, or simply drive them away. When someone falls into this negative Chicory state the remedy is used to bring out the positive side of the Chicory person: love given unconditionally and in freedom. Clematis...for people whose minds drift away from the present into fantasies of the future, or into alternative versions of the present. Often their dreams are of great future success, creative endeavor and achievement, but the danger for people in this state is that their dreams will remain fantasies because the Clematis person is not sufficiently anchored in reality to make them happen. The remedy helps to bring these people back to earth and back to themselves so that they can build castles in life instead of in the air. Sometimes the Clematis state is confused with the Honeysuckle state, but in fact the two are quite different. In the Honeysuckle state the person is living in nostalgic fantasies of the past or reliving old regrets; but the Clematis person's thoughts drift away to imagined futures. Crab Apple...known as the cleansing remedy, Its main use is to help people who feel that they have something unclean or poisonous about them, or who dislike some aspect of their appearance or personality. Sometimes there might be very real things wrong with someone in this state, but they will disregard the big problems and concentrate obsessively on the one thing that they have fixed on. This is why Crab Apple is sometimes given to people to cleanse obsessive, repetitive behavior such as hand-washing, re-checking that appliances are unplugged, and so on.. 21
  • 22. Elm... remedy for people suffering a temporary loss of self-confidence due to the overwhelming amount of responsibility they have taken on. Genuine Elm types are people who are successful and carrying out work that they believe in, but at times feel the weight of the charge on them and become depressed and concerned that they will not be able to go on. The remedy helps to dispel these feelings so that the Elm person can resume his or her life without thought of failure. The Elm state can be usefully contrasted with the Larch state: whereas people in the former take up challenges willingly and then only later, and only occasionally, doubt their abilities, Larch people are convinced they are going to fail right from the start, and so they tend not to try things in the first place. Gentian... remedy for the relatively mild downheartedness and despondency that follows when something has gone wrong. As soon as things start to go right again this kind of despondency tends to lift by itself, but the remedy can be used to lift it the sooner so that the person is better able to make things go right, instead of just hoping they will do so. Gentian is often confused with Gorse, but in fact they can be told apart quite easily. People in a Gorse state have decided to give up and so feel completely without hope. They have pitched their tents and refuse to be encouraged, and even if they are persuaded to try to find a way out they will do so grudgingly, assuring everyone that there is no use even trying. People in a Gentian state are discouraged: but they will soon pick up again when things start to go right. Gorse...remedy for people who have given up belief that there is any hope for them. It is a far stronger kind of downheartedness than the Gentian state, because Gorse people almost willfully refuse to be encouraged, so certain are they that their case is hopeless. If ill, they may think of themselves as incurable, or say that they inherited this or that from their families so that nothing can be done for them. Gorse is however classed by Dr Bach as a remedy for uncertainty, and not as a remedy for despair like for example Sweet Chestnut. This demonstrates that the main problem with Gorse people is a loss of certainty: if they can be persuaded to see things in a different light their faith in their lives would be renewed and they could go forward with a surer step. This is what the Gorse remedy helps to achieve. Heather...for people who are obsessed with themselves, but who do not like to be alone. Dr Bach called them 'buttonholers' because they do anything to keep people with them, all the time talking at exhaustive length about their problems and illnesses, 22
  • 23. great and small, until people begin actively to avoid them. Thus the thing Heather people fear - loneliness - is brought about because of their own behavior. The remedy is given to help Heather people see their own concerns in the context of other people's. Having suffered themselves from the need to talk, they become good listeners and great supports for others. As a result people seek them out for their compassion rather than avoiding them because of their self-centeredness. Holly...often thought of as the remedy for anger - but this isn't necessarily the case. Where Holly is for anger, it will be because the anger is based specifically on hatred, suspicion, envy or jealousy. But in other cases other remedies would be needed, such as Impatiens when anger is due to impatience, Vervain where it is caused by a sense of injustice, or Chicory where the angry person feels snubbed and hurt by ingratitude in others. Holly is for very negative, aggressive feelings directed at others. The basic problem is an absence of love, and the remedy works to encourage generosity of spirit and openness towards others. Honeysuckle...for people who live in the past instead of the present. They feel that their best days are behind them and that there is little to look forward to, and as a consequence they prefer to dwell on past happiness’s (or past misfortunes). At a more minor key, homesickness and nostalgia are also Honeysuckle states. The remedy helps the person in this state to learn from the past without needing to relive it, so that the person can progress on into the present and take joy from today and tomorrow. Hornbeam... used against feelings of exhaustion and tiredness that come before an effort has been made. The person in this state feels that he or she is too tired to cope with the demands of the day. It's easier to stay in bed or put off making a start - but if an effort can be made to get started the weariness will fade, a sign that unlike the Olive state this is a mental rather than a physical weariness. 23
  • 24. Impatiens... as its name suggests, the remedy against impatience and against frustration and irritability caused by impatience. Anyone can get into this state of mind, but there are also genuine Impatiens types, who live life at a rush and hate being held back by more methodical people. To avoid this irritation they try if possible to work alone: the Impatiens boss is the one who sends staff home early so she can get the job finished quicker! The remedy helps these people be less hasty and more relaxed and patient with others and where it is used to help calm agitated thoughts and feelings. Larch...remedy for people who feel that they are not as good as others and that they are bound to fail. They lack confidence in their ability to succeed and so often do not even bother trying. (Elm people, where it is the desire to take on too much that causes the temporary doubt.) The remedy helps people in this state to go ahead regardless of thoughts of success and failure. More able to take risks and be involved in life, they get more out of living. Mimulus... remedy for known fears. In other words whenever you are frightened of something or you are anxious about something, and you can say what that something is, and then Mimulus is the remedy to take. Mimulus fears are everyday fears - fear of public speaking, of the dark, of aggressive dogs, or of illness or pain. Phobias such as the fear of spiders or of birds are also Mimulus fears, since the cause of the fear can be named. Where the phobia is very great so that the sight of a spider for example causes sheer terror, then Rock Rose might be given as well as or instead of Mimulus. And where the fear is diffuse and there is general anxiety and apprehension without a specific named cause then Aspen is the remedy to consider. Mimulus is used as a type remedy for people who tend to be nervous, timid and shy generally. Sometimes people of this type may blush easily or stammer, and they will usually avoid social occasions and any event where they will be in the limelight. Mimulus is the remedy to encourage the quiet courage and strength that lies hidden in such people, so that they can face the everyday trials of life with steadfastness. Mustard.., remedy for deep gloom and depression that descends for no apparent reason out of a clear blue sky. People in this state often list all the reasons they have to feel happy and contented, but still everything looks black and hopeless to them. The remedy helps to dispel the clouds so that the person can once again find joy and peace in life. 24
  • 25. Oak...remedy for strong, steady people who never give up under adversity. Instead they plod on with determination, and never consider resting until they are past the point of exhaustion. Because they are so steady they often have many people relying on them, and their sense of duty is strong, so that they can feel frustrated and unhappy if illness or exhaustion get in the way of discharging duties. So much is positive about the Oak person, but the negative side is the stubborn refusal to rest or sit back when the need for rest is obvious to all around. The remedy is used to help the Oak remain strong in adversity and not crack under the strain, while at the same time a different wisdom is learned, so that the person in this state can learn when not to strive. Olive...remedy for tiredness and exhaustion after an effort of some kind, such as hard physical or mental labour, or the long struggle against illness. It can be usefully contrasted with Hornbeam, which is the remedy for tiredness felt even before an effort has been made. The remedy is given to restore feelings of strength and the faith needed to continue. Pine... for people who blame themselves for something they feel they have done in the past, some neglect of a parent, some fault in themselves, something they have left undone, and for those who reproach themselves that, even though they may have been successful in their work, they should have done better. They are never, as Dr Bach writes in "The Twelve Healers", content with their own efforts or the results. They also at times tend to claim responsibility for the mistakes made by others. They are perfectionists and set themselves high standards, and this may cause them to over-work and strain to do better, and when the strain becomes too much for the physical body, they blame themselves for the ensuing illness as they feel they are failing in their duty to others, to their work and the family responsibilities. This guilt-complex takes so much of the joy out of their lives and they become despondent and begin to despair. They can often feel so guilty about some minor matter that these thoughts fill their minds and they are always asking for forgiveness. Red Chestnut...for people who feel fear for the well-being of others: the husband afraid when his wife goes out alone after dark, the mother fretting over what may happen to her child at school. Red Chestnut fears are natural, normal concerns magnified to the point where they may have a negative effect on the person who is the object of concern, destroying confidence and undermining self-belief. 25
  • 26. The remedy helps people in this state to send out calm, unworried thoughts to their loved ones, so that instead of making everyone anxious they are rocks of strength on whom others lean.. Rock Rose...remedy against terror. The Rock Rose state may start out as a Limulus, Aspen or Red Chestnut state, but it is further along the path from any of these, being a panicky, terror struck fear that makes conscious thought and decision next to impossible. The remedy provides calm and courage. The self is forgotten and strength reappears. Rock Water...remedy for people who take self-repression and self-denial to extremes. They are very wrapped up in themselves, seeking always to perfect themselves in some way and setting themselves targets and being very unkind to themselves if they fail to live according to their own rules. If they seek to influence others it is not directly but by example only. The Rock Water remedy does not stop people from having high ideals or from trying to meet them. But it does help ease the excesses of the Rock Water personality, so that people like this can show more flexibility when it is necessary, and are not so hard on themselves. Scleranthus...remedy for people who find it difficult to make up their minds which option of two or more they ought to choose. The Scleranthus indecision commonly affects the small decisions of life as much as the big ones: 'should I marry Joe or Peter?' and 'should I buy a red notebook or a blue one?' are both Scleranthus states. Sometimes the chronic uncertainty of the Scleranthus person manifests itself in other ways. There may be mood swings and even motion sickness: although these symptoms are not in themselves infallible guides to Scleranthus, but only signs that this is a remedy to consider. In any case, the remedy is given to help the person to act more decisively and know his or her own mind. Star of Bethlehem...remedy for the after-effects of any shock, such as unexpected bad news or an unexpected and unwelcome event. And it can be used just as well for the effects of a shock received many years ago, even very early in childhood. This is also the remedy for the sense of emptiness and loss that sometimes occurs when a loved one dies or moves away, since this too can be a great shock to the system. Star of Bethlehem is the comforting remedy to give in such circumstances. Sweet Chestnut...remedy for people who have reached the limits of their endurance, who have explored all avenues but see no way out of their difficulties, and who feel 26
  • 27. that there is nothing left for them but annihilation and emptiness. Whereas people in a Gorse state have fallen into a state of hopelessness when there are actually possible solutions all around, the person in a Sweet Chestnut state is genuinely at the end of the line: theirs is appalling, final despair. The remedy helps people in this extreme state to remain masters of their lives and renew their hope and strength. And sometimes a way out may open even at this stage of life. Vervain...people are perfectionists with a keen sense of justice and extreme mental energy that they willingly throw behind those causes that they believe in. Their enthusiasm can be infectious, and they feel a strong need to persuade others to their own point of view. At an extreme Vervain people can become fanatics, unable to listen to alternative points of view, and they may put themselves under a great deal of stress because they find it so hard to switch off and relax. The remedy is given to help people in this state to pull back from time to time so that body and mind and be restored. It encourages the wisdom to enjoy life and the passage of time instead of always feeling the need to be active. Vine...for people who know their own minds and think they know what is best for others. They are mentally strong and enjoy the exercise of power, but in their negative states this can lead them to dominate others by force alone. Tyrannical fathers and overbearing bosses are typical negative Vines, in that they will expect absolute obedience from others and will not be overly concerned with winning hearts and minds as long as their orders are followed. In this respect they are very different from Vervain people, who will attempt to convert others to their way of thinking: Vines are content with the simple imposition of discipline. In their positive aspect Vine people make wise, gentle and loving guides who can inspire and lead others without resorting to force. The remedy is given to encourage this positive side of the Vine nature. Walnuts...remedy to help to protect against outside influences in general, and against the effects of change in particular. Walnut types are people who are fulfilling their purpose in life but who under the influence of the opinions, theories or beliefs of others or of external circumstances in general, may be led to doubt their path. They are not like Cerato people, who actively seek out the opinions of others, but instead may be affected almost despite themselves. 27
  • 28. As a remedy against the effects of change, Walnut is useful at all the transitions of life, from being born to teething to going to school to puberty to marriage to childbearing to retirement and beyond. It helps to break links with the past so that the person can move forward with confidence and without undue suffering. Water Violet... remedy for those talented, capable people whose independence and self-reliance can make them seem to be proud and disdainful of others. True Water Violet people are quiet and dignified and prefer their own company or that of a few close friends, but where their natural reserve has built a barrier between them and others they may actually become lonely and be unable to make contact with others. When this happens the remedy can help to bring them back into balance so that they can be more involved with humanity. White Chestnut...remedy for unwanted thoughts, worries and mental arguments, which intrude into the mind and stop people from concentrating on things that they should be doing. White Chestnut thoughts are repetitive and go nowhere, simply circling round and round in the head like a stuck gramophone record. The remedy is used to help people control their thoughts again so that they can deal calmly and rationally with any underlying problems that might be causing the trouble. Wild Oat...remedy for people who feel that they want to do something worthwhile with their lives but do not know in which direction they should move. So instead they drift from occupation to occupation, but without finding their true path, which leads in turn to feelings of frustration and consequent depression. This state of indecision is not like the Scleranthus one, because in the case of Scleranthus the path itself isn't in doubt, but rather the different ways of following it: the different options are known. Wild Oat people do not know what their options are because their goals are not defined. The remedy helps people to find their true role, putting them back in touch with their own basic purpose in life so that the way ahead seems obvious. 28
  • 29. Wild Rose... for people who have accepted all that life throws at them and have given up the struggle for fulfilment. Instead they have resigned themselves to the way things are, to the extent where they don't even complain or seem particularly unhappy. Instead they shrug their shoulders - there's no point complaining or trying to change - and seem happy just to drift through life. The remedy is given to reawaken interest in life. The positive Wild Rose person will still be a happy-go-lucky type, but instead of apathy will feel a sense of purpose that will bring increased happiness and enjoyment. Willow... for people who feel resentful and bitter about the way their lives have gone. They begrudge others their successes and happiness, and are reluctant to admit when their own lives go well; preferring to concentrate on what is going wrong. Willow people are grumblers, and when ill make bad patients because they are never satisfied with what is done for them. Willow can be compared to Holly in that it too is a negative state directed towards others. But where Holly burns with hatred and suspicion, Willow smolders with resentment and self-pity. The remedy is given to encourage the rebirth of optimism and faith, and to help the person in the negative Willow state to be more generous in praise of others and also more aware of how his own negative thinking can attract the very ill-fortune that he blames on others. The above on Bach Flowers Essences is for information purposes only, and should be taken under the advice of your physician or professional health care provider. 29
  • 30. The essential oils/herbs recommended should be 100% botanical oils/herbs from wild or organic habitats, and made by the purest possible methods.
