Literacy session outline Workshop 'Technology-enhanced learning in the context of technological, societal and cultural transformations'  #telc09John Cook, ElizabettaAdami, Margit Boeck & Norbert Pachler Alpine Rendez-Vous, within the framework of the STELLAR Network of Excellence. December 3-4, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, Germany.
Structure Hindsight – three ‘short’ disciplinary perspectives on “literacy”  Insight – What are the “literacy” trends, disruptions, enablers and barriers? Foresight –  Should Schools/HE/tertiary be transformed to enable new types of learning, and of so how, and under what scenarios? Summing up
Questions What relationship is there between user-generated content, user-generated contexts and learning?  How can educational institutions cope with the more informal communicative approaches to digital interactions that new generations of learners possess?
Does the notion of ‘learner-generated cultural resources’ represent a sustainable paradigm shift for formal education in which learning is viewed in categories of context and not content?  What are the issues in terms of ‘text’ production in terms of modes of representation, (re)contextualisation and conceptions of ‘literacy’?  Who decides/redefines what it means to have coherence in contemporary interaction?
Hindsight – three ‘short’ disciplinary perspectives on “literacy”  Margit, Information Habitus & New Literacy Studies  John, Cognitive Psychology & Education: “Re-examining Vygotsky”  Elizibetta, Social semiotics and different perspectives on literacy And responses from participants coordinated by John.
Insight  – What are the “literacy” trends, disruptions, enablers and barriers? Norbert has volunteered for ‘short’ Insight presentations Elizibetta - Issues of coherence and individualized participation John – Augmented Contexts for Development Margit - Informationhabitus and connect with the socio-cultural ecological approach And responses from participants coordinated by John.
Foresight  –  Should Schools/HE/tertiary/WBL be transformed to enable new types of learning, and of so how, and under what scenarios? Break down into small groups, work for 20 minutes on answers to Foresight, 5 minutes for each group appointed speaker to feed back After each group feedback Margit, Elizibetta & John facilitate discussion.
Summing up Margit, Elizibetta & John all get to sum up what for them are the key themes under the headings literacy Hindsight,  Insight &  Foresight
