school romance and friendship while dodging their
sometimes overbearing parents. When Lola's mom, Anne,
"accidentally" comes across and reads her teenage
daughter's journal, she realises just how wide their
communication gap has grown. Through hilarious and
heartfelt moments between mother and daughter, LOL is a
fresh coming-of-age story for modern times.
3. An offbeat romantic comedy about a woman who
doesn't believe true love exists, and the young man
who falls for her. He's Tom, from New Jersey, working
in L.A. writing greeting cards even through he's an
architect by training. She's Summer from Michigan.
Day one is her first day in Tom's office. We jump back
and forth in time: by day 67, they've become an item
when she decides to put aside the lovemaking and just
be friends. Tom, a romantic who's sure Summer is the
one for him, wallows in self pity.

5. In the genre of rom com you always have the two main characters being a male
and female who are love interests for one or the other. These characters then
shape the storyline of the film. It always starts of calm then something occurs
which disrupts the equilibrium. By the end of the film everything is back to being
calm and the damaged equilibrium has been solved. The usual disruption in a
rom com film is normally and argument or a break up which is resolved by
making up and getting back together. It’s normally the girl who is left heat
broken but when it comes to 500 days of summer they break the convention by
making the male character the one that is heartbroken in the end.
6. When it comes to starts in the rom com genre you would usually see the same
actor or actress in these type of films. This theory is used to sell the film through
the actors or actress’ starring in it rather than the actual film. They would choose
an actor or actress for how popular they are and how well they appeal to a wider
audience. This can be shown in the rom com film, LOL which stars Miley Cyrus.
She is seen as a big star for the target audience of young teenagers for this film so
they audience will be able to relate to her better. As well as this, they would get a
wider audience going to see the film just because she is it in not because they
have an interest in the storyline. Another rom com film that this theory has been
used in is new film, That Awkward Moment. This film stars actor Zac Efron who
isn’t normally seen as the rom com type actor but the director of this film knows
that the audience would want to see it just because he stars in it.
7. This part of the trailer shows the two
main characters together. The way that
they are lay close and smiling at each
other shows the audience that this is a
romance film.
This part of the Friends with Benefits
trailer shows a sense of comedy. This
can be seen through the two main
characters of the film. The audience
will be able to tell this is part of the
comedy genre as her drawing on his
face whilst he is asleep is seen as
something funny.
