2. • Through time News has been distributed many ways,
the most notable being print. Print has been used for
many 100s of years due to its simplicity and appeal to
many people.
• This was prior to the digital age, mainly progressing and
effecting the 2000s.
• Due to the information age many people consume their
news in entirely different ways to the old newspaper.
People watch TV, listen to the Radio, search up on their
tablets, they even have the news streamed to their
watch. Why? Accessibility and the speed of media
distribution, its easier in their life than going down the
local shop for a print newspaper.
17. Bias of the different
providers
• The Citizen journalists are able to communicate their opinion without
the worry of ever being fired or reprimanded for their actions. In the
BBC and Independent they have to stick by guidelines and codes so
they do not offend the public, for example the BBC can never show a
bias and must always discuss both sides of a story, this is due to being
a public service broadcaster. But with the independent they are able to
state what they wish but must stick by their rulings and make sure it is
available to be distributed in public. In the citizen journalist piece it
describes the sexual assault as aggressive unlike the independent that
just states the facts.
18. Media used to present
the story
• In all the articles they use some type of media, in the citizen journalist
piece from the Globalvoices it uses images and in Citizenside it uses a
small video. In the video it shows the amount of protesters at the scene
mainly. In the BBC and the Independent only uses images, although
the image the Independent uses is quite revealing and shows the lady
mostly naked, (removed from my screenshots due to that). But in the
citizen journalist piece it’s a video showing the peaceful protest and no
images of the incident.
19. What information was not
included across some
platforms
• In the Independent the story is much more in depth discussing about
the actual sexual assault then talks about stats and other things in the
Citizen side article it talks about how this event has caused people to
protest and preform a sit in at a government building, this means they
didn’t talk about the event at all just what happened due to this event.
20. Look at the advantages
and disadvantages of this
type of distribution.
• The ability to be able to distribute news on the internet is incredibly
effective due to it being instantly distributed to its target audience that is
the more technology based generations who are able to just technology
easily. Citizen journalists may also be trying to appeal to younger
people to show how the world is all around them and not just first world
countries that are mainly in the news. This is one of the main
disadvantages. Another large downside is that citizen journalist
websites do not have the ability to pull in as many consumers as big
high budget news providers. This means its harder for their story to get
out there and effect more people.
