General Principles of Intellectual Property: Concepts of Intellectual Proper...
Unit 35 LO3
1.
2. About the Product
For my product the purpose will be an easy way for people to find music they
enjoy listening so it will have similar content to Soundcloud’s whats new page as
people can find what new songs are out and how popular they are. Also on
Soundcloud they have an option to create your own playlist which my product will
also have to offer for the user. This will allow the user to create a playlist that they
have made of the music they like and listen to it. It will be an app that people can
download onto their phones as this easy for people to access when they are
mobile. Also it will have different convergences, for example images and videos to
make it more visual for the user and more interesting to use and look at for the
user. Other features that are important are like the legal and ethical parts ,for
example the copyright symbol on the page to let people know that it is
copyrighted so other people cant use the same idea that I have. Furthermore it
will have the same house style throughout the whole app so people can easily
recognise it anywhere and it will also have a simple appearance so that it is easy
to use and if it was complex it may put people of from using the product. Finally,
my unique selling point would be that it is a free app to use so this means that
more people will use it if it is free to use as many people don’t really like paying
for things.
3. About the product (continued)
I chose to go with the name ‘Recordr’ because it relates to the genre
of app that it is. Also it is simple and catchy so people don’t have to
struggle to say the name or to think of what it is called. For the colour
scheme I chose to go for different colours that other social media sites
don’t use. So I chose to go with purple/white/black because other
social media sites use mainly blue and white so this means that my
social media will stand out and be unique to others. Also this means it
will be easier for the users to recognize that app other others. For my
font style I chose ‘Doctor Glitch’ because I thought it suited the name
of the product well and looked professional. Furthermore it is easy to
read as the letters are clear to read, also it is very eye catching to
people as well. Finally, my font chose it different to the other fonts
that Facebook, Twitter and Instagram use so my social media won’t be
following the crowd it will stand out.
4. About the product (continued)
Another factor is whether or not that I will be in synergy with social media. I
will likely will be going to so then the other can do different things on the
social media which will then hopefully attract more users. The other type of
social media would be YouTube so that the music audio can link with the
music video if they have one. Twitter could also maybe linked because the
artist can link with the artists Twitter post, so users can see what their
favorite artists are doing. For my target market they would be young adults
and teenagers as they are into music and listen to it a lot. They would be
around 17-35 years of age and will be a mix of male and female. The socio-
economic needs would be form C1 to E as they younger generation may not
have that much of a high paid job so they are more likely to download a free
app. My target audience would be explorers (Maslow) because these people
will explore new types of music and new songs they may not listen to
normally. the group of people to use this would be diversion and surveillance
(Katz) because they will want to escape everyday life and listen to their
favorite songs.
7. Website Functionality
For my body text of the app, I will use the
default font on Photoshop because this looks
professional and it is clear to read. This will be
the same throughout the whole of the app
because this makes it all look the same so it
doesn’t look weird and different. This means
that the user will recognize the App. The colour
of the app will be purple/white/black. This will
not change anywhere in the app. This is because
it looks more professional and tidy this way.
8. Website Functionality
These are more
Photoshop drafts. As you
can see the house styles
hasn’t changed anywhere
in the app. Also the font
hasn’t changed either.
This is because it makes it
look clearer and easier to
read.
9. Website Functionality
Terms and Conditions
It is important to have a set of rules for people to use when using the app.
This is important because it protects the people that are using it also I will be
stating the consequences of copyright and legal and ethical. Furthermore, I
would have information on IP and any governing law and it is vital that people
know what their rights are in the website and app. For example people
shouldn’t use anyone else’s songs the put up to use to make their own.
Privacy Policy
For my company, I will have a privacy policy written out so there would be no
issues with people not knowing what their rights are when using the website
and app. Firstly, I would have the information that I have got from the people
using the website and app for example their email address they have used to
sign up with. I would explain how we keep their information private and safe
so no one else can access it expect from them. If our policy would ever
change everyone that has signed up to the website and app would be notified
so they are aware of this change.
10. Production Plan
Week beginning Friday 23rd March 2018
Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday
The graphic
designers will
have to start on
putting together
the webpage in
the correct
layout as I have
designed in the
drafts.
The designer will
carry on with
their work. Then
when this is
happening, the
Editors need to
start thinking of
what type of
music they want
in each category.
When the editors
finalise what is in
the categories
and what would
be kept an eye
on, for example
any new popular
songs that have
came out.
The editors keep
on checking up
on new songs
and artists to
update the
website and the
app.
All of the workers
to carry on with
their tasks.

11. Production Plan (continued)
My launch date will be on the 1st May and the reason for
this is because some students will be finishing school for
summer so people will just want to chill out in summer
and listen to songs. I given 2 weeks to create the website
and app, this is possible as long as everyone would be the
work at a good pace. I would need graphic designers,
editors and writers. For the equipment I would need
Apple Mac with Dreameaver.
The workers will be working as a group so I won’t need
many computers. This will make it a lot cheaper to be
able to make the website and app.
12. Production Plan (continued)
When starting a business it is important to know
how much I will be paying everyone that is
working on the website and app.
Job Role Salary
Website Designer £22,000
Editor £26,000
Writer £21,000
https://www.payscale.com/
The equipment that I will be using an Apple iMac which costs around £1,749.00 for a
Retina 5K Display, 3.4GHz Processor and 1TB Storage. Also I would need to buy Adobe
Dreamweaver which costs £73.93 a month.
13. Revenue
The main way that I will be bringing in money
into the company will be from having paid
privileges. For example, you can download songs
offline (without WIFI) to listen them on the go.
This will be an option to do this when you are
signing up or you can do it whenever the user
will like to. This would cost the user £7.99 per
month to have this luxury.
14. Legal and ethical issues
Copyright, there is a line between infringement and ‘fair use’. Courts
have long recognised the need for such defence because no every act
that might violate an owners copyrights should amount to an
infringement. The fair use defence was created to limit the scope of
copyright through an equitable rule of reason. Another way to look at
copyright for a social media is to look at the social media’s terms and
conditions. Furthermore for intellectual property, if an employee adds
any content, the employer will own and have rights to the copyright
for example and decides what and prevent anything from being
copied. Finally for privacy policy it is vital that the user knows exactly
what will be done with their private information. I will have to tell the
users for my app when and what personal information I would take
form them, who can see them, about cookies and how safe the
information is kept. This is very important because no one would really
want their information out their so they need to know the full details
and what they’re involved in.
15. Legal and Ethical Issues (Continued)
To establish user trust, I will be telling them on
how I will be protecting all their private
information and details. They way I will be
coming around this is to say in the privacy policy
that only certain admin employees and head will
will be able to access information if it is specific
and will not use any details for other uses.
