2. Newspaper
Article
Headline – The headline is used to grab the readers attention and summarise the articles main focus
in sometimes an exaggerated form.
Pictures/images – This can be used to describe what the article is saying or give evidence to the
point it is using, this makes it reliable and believable for the reader.
Caption for photo – This specifically states what is happening in the image provided.
Paragraphs (short) – Paragraphs are common in newspapers to make it easier for the person to read
and keep them interested rather than having a large piece of text to read.
Byline - The byline on a newspaper article gives the name, the date, and often the position, of the
writer of that article. This shows the reader who wrote the piece and makes them believe their
information given is trustworthy.
First para sums up story – This is used so the reader can see the summery of the story which will
make them invest in reading the rest of the article if it can grab their attention enough.
Information – This is most important to the newspaper, the public want all the latest news,
information and gossip from the articles produced.
Columns
3. Interviews – Interviews give extra information for readers that they not get without it and
can also make the subject more reliable. For example, a scientist being interviewed on the
return of the black death is a lot more reliable than the newspaper telling the reader.
Quotes – Quotes are often used to explain exactly what an individual or group has said to
show that the paper has the correct and reliable resources for the information they use.
This makes the reader believe in the article. Newspapers do this to keep or expand the
amount of readers they have, if it information wasn’t reliable enough for the reader it
wouldn’t necessarily be a successful newspaper.
Facts and opinions – Facts gives the reader important information and makes it reliable
whereas opinions are an individual expression which some readers may relate to or can
choose to believe whether or not it is realistic enough. It is good to have a balance of fact
and opinion in a newspaper for the readers.
Statistics – A collection of data can be used to show the reader a difference in a subject of
how things have changed. Readers can find this information interesting or knowledgeable.
4. • Form: Newspaper article
• Structure Paragraphs, columns
• Content: News, current affairs, information, facts, opinions, statistics
• Technical conventions:
• Mode of address: Formal, serious – depends on the newspaper. Can be more
informal if it is a tabloid.
5. Newspaper website
article
Byline - The byline on a newspaper article gives the name, the date, and often the position,
of the writer of that articlewhich is placed above the article on the site. This shows the
reader who wrote the piece and makes them believe their information given is
trustworthy.
Date and time – This is given to show how recent the article is and when it was released.
This is good for the reader because it shows how updated the site is and can also show
their information is reliable.
Pictures - This can be used to describe what the article is saying or give evidence to the
point it is using, this makes it reliable and believable for the reader.
Location links of the story
Social sharing – which moves with the page navigation
Headline and summing up sentence
Hyperlinks - Easier for the user to navigate back to the home page and find other articles
to view which makes the user stay interested in the site and spend more time on it.
6. Very short paragraphs – This makes the information short and to the point which keeps
the reader interested.
Bigger spaces between paragraphs – Bigger spaces makes it easier for the person to read
and scroll on the site page
No columns – The writing would be across the page and make it easier to read, the
reader wouldn’t have to scroll up and down.
Some will have comments sections – This will enable to person to comment and interact
with other peoples opinions on a subject. This will make the reader feel more involved
with latest news and information.
Side boxes with additional info
Videos sometimes – Can lead to more detailed information and make the website a
better experience than a newspaper, this could gain more interest for a wider audience
such as young people. Younger people are more familiar to the internet than older
people and might be a step forward to gaining a wider audience by using videos to
explain news or other information.
7. A tabloid is a newspaper with compact page size smaller than
broadsheet, although there is no standard for the precise dimensions
of the tabloid newspaper format.
Tabloid is a smaller paper and would be easier to carry around and
access when doing things throughout the day, an easy way to get the
news.
The broadsheet is the largest of newspaper formats and is
characterized by long vertical pages.
Broadsheet is a much larger paper which may make it harder for the
reader to carry it and read it when out during the day. However, this
paper may be able to have more information due to its size.
Overall, I think the tabloid would be a better newspaper to use
because of its smaller size, this enables the reader the carry it around
and use whenever they want to.
