Rules and function of
Educational Technology in the
21st century Education
• 21st century has become the central part of
Educational thinking and planning for the
future.
Educational System has been involving faster
than ever before.
Creating a 21st century education system is
about making sure that all students are
prepared to succeed in a competitive world.
Following can be considered when
deciding how education will look in our
schools and classrooms:
• 1. Instruction should be student-centered :
The days of lecturing teachers has passed – through
not entirely. Education is no longer about listening to the
teacher talk and absorbing the information. In order to
contribute to the society , students will need to connect the
new information to the information as problem arise. Instead
of passively passing information , the students will gather
information on their own , under the guidance of their
teacher.
2. Education should be collaborative :
Students should be collaborative with others. Society
today has people collaborating across the globe. Students
should be encouraged to work together to discover
information , to piece it together and construct meaning.
Students should learn how to recognize the different
strengths and talents each person can bring to a project and
change roles depending on those attributes.
3. Learning should have context :
Student-centered does not mean that the teacher gives
up all the facilities in the classroom . The teacher can make a
point in helping students . To understand how the skills they
are building can be applied to their lives . Students will be
much more motivated to learn something that they can see
the value in.
3 Broad areas of fundamental building
into Education :
1. Use technology comprehensively to develop proficiency in
21st century skills :
Knowledge of core content is necessary , but no
longer sufficient for success in the competitive world. They
still would woefully unprepared to succeed to postsecondary
institutions and workplaces. Used comprehensively ,
technology help students develop 21st century skills.
2. Use technology comprehensively to support innovative
teaching and learning :
To keep pace with a changing world , schools need to
offer more rigorous , relevant and engaging opportunities for
students to learn –and apply their knowledge and skills in
meaningful ways.
3. Use technology comprehensively to create robust education
support system :
To be effective in schools and classrooms , teachers
and administrators need training tools and proficiency in 21st
century skill themselves.
Important functions of Educational
Technology :
1. Improvement of teaching :
Educational technology analyses the process of
teaching thoroughly. It finds out the different variables of
teaching. By developing the theories of teaching it helps in
improving the quality education.
2. Analysis of Teaching –Learning process :
Education technology aims at analyzing the
process of teaching- learning thoroughly. It concerns with
various phases of teaching.
3. Improvement of Learning :
Education Technology analyses the process of
learning and related theories. It takes the help of various
established generalizations from psychology , sociology , etc.
4. Enhancing goal of education :
The objectives of education are being reviewed
with the passage of time . Education technology helps finding
the right objectives.
5. Training to teachers :
The change type of environment with new curriculum
and new materials is to be handled by the teachers.
6. Development curriculum :
Keeping in view the objectives of education , which
have been finalized by education technology thereafter ,
comes the question of developing right type of curriculum .
7. Development of Teaching- Learning materials :
Teaching – Learning materials are important as
anything else in the teaching-learning process. Everything in
the society including values of life need be reflected in the
materials .
8. Teaching – Learning strategies :
A strategy plays and important role in the hands of a
teacher in every teaching – learning situation. The different
strategies are being involved by educational technology.
9. Development of Audio – Visual Aid :
Audio – visual aids always played an important role in
teaching – learning process. The software , the hardware ,
aids , be used in the present type of teaching – learning
environment .
10. Help overall Improvement :
Educational technology helps in deciding the problems
in the different areas of education. Evaluation of teaching –
learning process is also made better because through
feedback , things are improved thoroughly.
11. Identification of needs of the community :
Educational Technology identifies the needs of the
community . It helps in providing equal education
opportunities to backward people , disadvantaged students
and deprived sections of the society.
