Like any other technology market the board portal space is in constant change. Directors are becoming more tech-savvy, the iPad has created a demand surge, and now, the number and type of enduser is expanding beyond the board to include leadership teams and/or multi-board implementations. At BoardVantage we saw the first stirrings of that change 3 years ago when existing customers made inquiries about using our 2nd Gen portal for their exec team who were struggling to address the challenges of geographic dispersion. They only had email, SharePoint didn’t work for them and email was inadequate. That’s why we spec’d the NextGen as platform to address both constituencies - boards and leadership teams. To make the strategy work we knew we had carry forward board portal functionality and add functionality for executives teams whose process is more varied than boards and who as a group are more tech savvy than directors. In production since Q3 of last year, the introduction of NextGen has put the company on a different trajectory
Challenges for governance/leadership/executiveVisibility:Compliance, risk management, managing chaos and monitoring valueAlignment: defensibility, transparency, driving team behavior by getting everybody on the same page.Control: Consistency, trust, responsibility and accountability. Decision and access rights. BoardVantagenextgen platform is a Modern Social MediawithManagement ControlSpatial map allows for relative positioning, e.g. TeamSpaces on visibility/control border, Digital certificates mainly control
As a platform Nextgen includes a broad range of tools.Focus on documents because that’s the principal asset for leadership teams. Online and offline access because this is for mobile audience. At times out of network range.Tight control over all communications through a permission modelHardened with board portal security Runs on the browser and the iPad so we can guarantee a hassle free experience
Runs on the browser and the iPad so we can guarantee a hassle free experience. In other words - Different presentation, same functionality
Access is tightly controlled, and restricted to authorized members, who are identified by their profiles.
TeamSpaces serve as focal points to centralize all relevant activityfor a process or initiative. And because they are ring-fenced they permit direct and open communication that you need on a leadership team.
When networked TSs capture any number of initiatives in parallel. This lets us strike a perfect balance between the need to share and the need to maintain control. Very different than typical collaboration or social networking tools sacrifice process to improve access. But that bargain would backfire for our customers opening the door to leaks of sensitive information and confidentiality breaches.NextGen is a social model but instead of a standalone functionality we view Social as organizing principle, integrated it at the core of the platform where apermission model exercises control over all content and communication flows
Switching between TSs is accomplished through a simple pull down.
BV’s track record with demanding board members, reconciling the conflicting demands of simplicity and security sensitized us to the importance of user experience. That gave us a head start on how to maximize the user experience. It taught us two things:1. There is no “average user”Contribution (Creation): AdministratorsConsumption (Review): DirectorsCollaboration (Creation and Review): Executives
So we developed significant expertise around user interface design which applies to the browser and the iPadOur iPad App is slick enough to be featured on Apple’s website.
When it comes to UI design, we believe the bar will only get higher because of the rising expectations set in consumer technology. Business users are now routinely aware of the superior usability and esthetics of consumer devices and applications. Business software is under pressure pressure to keep up. BoardVantage is therefore investing heavily in this area. All this exposure to customer requirements has convinced us that…2. Only RIAs are capable to keep up with the rising expectations and the barbell shape of the user community
