Througha seriesof lecturesandworkshopsyouwill learn abouthow videoproducers workto a brief.
You will thenneedto write anessay explaininghow videoproducer,usingexamplestojustifythe
pointsyouare makingandconsistentlyusingthe correctterminologyof videoproduction.
What you needto include (at a minimum);
You have beenaskedtoexplainthe followingareas(withillustrative examples):
The structure of briefs:contractual,negotiated,formal,informal,commissionedversustender,
co-operative briefs,competition
Reading a brief: understand the nature and demands of the clientsbrief
Negotiating briefs with a client: consultingwiththe client,how muchdiscretionyouhave to
interpretthe brief,legalconstraints,amendingthe final idea,budgetandconditions,yourfees
and costs.

Outline
Nowyouhave a clearideaof how youwill communicate the clientsmessage totheiraudienceyouneed
to getit signedoff bythe client.If they’re happywithyourvisionforthe projectandyourplansthenyou
will be able tomove forwardto filming,but if notitsback to the drawingboard.
To persuade the clientyouwill needtoprepare andpitchthemyourfinal proposal,working
independentlyandtonear-professional standards.Yourfinal proposal shouldreflectyourplanningand
shouldclearlymeetthe clientsobjectivesinanengagingandinterestingway,communicatingtheir
message withcreativityandflair.

Before youbegineditingyouwill needto planhow you will edityour video,eitherthroughclarifying
the editingstyle,tone,rhythmetc...withthe client,orbycreatingan editingproposal.
You will needtouse postproductiontechnology(FCP7) to edit your videoto near professional
standards, show creativity and flair and working independently.Once youhave finishedyourfinal cut
youwill needtoexportthe videoinanappropriate format,create asimple menuinDVDstudioProand
burn 2 seperate copiesof yourvideotoDVD.
