Presentation of Noun
INTRODUCTION NOUN
 Introduction to Nouns. A noun is essentially
a label for places, things, events, ideas,
concepts and so on. Like English, nouns in
Spanish may be categorized as common or
proper, count or mass, singular or plural.
Unlike English, Spanish nouns are also
categorized as either masculine or feminine.
DEFINITION OF NOUN
 A Noun is a word that names a person. Animal,
place or thing. A thing may include any thing
we can think of; any idea, state, quality, action,
feeling etc.
 Noun
 In short, we can say that a noun is a naming
word; it is name of anything.
KINDS OF NOUN
 FIVE TYPES OF NOUN
PROPER NOUN
 A proper noun is the name of a particular person,
 Place or thing.
 Examples- Anil is my brother. (Particular name of
the boy)
 Delhi is the capital of India, (particular name of
the city)
 The Gita is a sacred book, (particular name of
the book)
 The Ganga is a sacred river. (Particular name of
the river)
COMMON NOUN
 A common Noun is the name common to every
person or thing of the some class, kind or
group.
 The words boy, city, book, river, are all
common nouns. Each of the words is shared
by all of its kind. A boy is the common name
for all the boys.
COLLECTIVE NOUN
 A collective Noun is the name of a collection of
persons or things grouped together as one
whole.
 Words like army, crowd, fleet, bunch are
collective Nouns.
 A collection of solider is called army.
 A collection of people is called group crowd.
 A collection of ships is called fleet.
 A collection of key or grapes is called bunch.
MATERIAL NOUN
 A material noun is the name given to a
material or substance of which things are
made.
 The words like iron, wood, cotton, glass are
material nouns.
 Iron is required to build a ship.
 This cupboard is made of wood.
 Cotton is used for making cloth.
 Glass utensils should be handled with care.
ABSTRACT NOUN
 An abstract noun is the name of some quality,
state. Action, idea, feeling etc. which we can
only think of or feel but cannot touch.
 Qualities : honesty, bravery, kindness.
 State : childhood, slavery, sickness.
 Action : theft, judgment, marriage.
 Idea : democracy, monarchy, communism.
 Feeling : love, joy, pain.
