2. Camera Shots
 Establishing shots are used in the documentary to give the viewer a look at the busy
environment the new doctors find themselves in. It is used to emphasize the fast paced life
style the new doctors must now live and work in. It gives the viewer a look the amount of
people visit a hospital at certain times and can make them realise why this is such a
stressful job. Close ups are used on a range of different things and people to show
emotions and make the viewers feel different emotions. Close ups on the doctors firstly
show how young they are compared to what is the stereotypical doctor being older
around 40, this will make the older viewers reflect on themselves at a similar age and
realise how much work they did compare to the doctors. It also show doctors and patients
emotions, sometimes close ups are used on doctors after a surgery to show their stress or
sadness for a patient. Also this can be used to show when a patient is in a vast amount of
pain only to put show off even more, the pressures the young doctors find themselves in to
help these people.

3. Editing
 The main editing techniques in this documentary are short takes and cuts. These are used
to make the documentary run smoothly and flow to keep the viewers interested. It also
gives a fast paced feel to it, similar to what the doctors are like working in the hospital with
their busy and hectic work life. The cuts are used to show a vary off different things from a
live surgery to a interview with a doctor. Also the short cuts allow a larger variety of scenes
to be put into the documentary.

4. Sound
 Digetic sound is used mainly for speech in this documentary. Interviews with the doctors
and used to give a first person account of what they go through while working as a doctor
and to give the audience someone's opinions and feelings on being a doctor. Non-
digetic sound is used in the form of speech also. A voice over either from a narrator or
speech from a doctor being played over another scene is used throughout this
documentary to keep the audience hooked and interested.

5. Mise En Scene
 Costumes are one of the main conventions used in this documentary. The doctors are very
noticeable from the public in this documentary because of their costume. The doctors are
dressed in the usual outfit you would expect to see a doctor wearing, long white jacket
with the blue operating uniform. This clearly shows who is and who isn’t a doctor in the
documentary and help the audience clear understand who the documentary is about.
Also the setting of the documentary is a very important convention. In this case it is set
mostly in hospitals around Britain so the audience can see what the doctors get up to at a
usual day at work.
