4. The government agency directly in charge
of the management of our natural
resources as well as the protection of the
environment was formerly the ministry of
natural resources. It was transformed to
Department of Natural Resources in
1987.its main trust is to coordinate all
government agencies on the National
Environment Protection Council (NPEC)
which was created in 1977 through
PD.NO 1121

environment and natural resources are
placed under the DENR

10. Philippine Agenda 21, or the PA21- provides
for the creation of an enabling environment
which would assist various stakeholders' to
integrate sustainable development
programs. Incentives are given to projects
that are involved in:
the development or conversion of industrial
clusters into industrial ecosystem.
Industry self-regulated /upgrading of
plant/firm level
11. The establishment of toxic and
hazardous waste management facilities.
The establishment of new or modern
sewage system for industrial/municipal
wastes.
The restoration, rehabilitation of major
water catchment basins/ water ways
and related infrastructure.
The establishment of stationary and
mobile facilities for emission testing.
12. A development frame work for the 1st
century has been formulated under the long-
term Philippine development plan (LTPDP)
2000-2925 or the plan21. the PLPDP frame
work recognizes that the new millennium
will increasingly call for all economic
development to become less ecologically
destructive plan. Plan 21 builds on the
foundations created by the medium –term
Philippine development plan (MTPDP). Plan
21 sets the broad developmental directions
of the country and will serve as the basis of
the sector agencies. it ensures the
continuation of policies based on
responsibilities, productivity, creation of
opportunities through competitive markets
and enlightened government regulations.

15. The Philippine government has passd laws on
environmental problems and is signatory with
the other countries having environmental
deterioration
it is not late to make a difference by caing.
There is still time to deal with the complex
interacting problems we face and to make
orderly rather than catastrophic transition to a
sustainable global society if enough of us really
care. There are are some government and
private agencies really involved in the
sustainablr development of our environment
