Project description
Plaza Building Conservation Project is part of Flora and Fauna Bioparque Pereira, this is an educational space, with flexible spaces to
accommodate multiple activities such as: interpretation, exhibitions, auditorium, areas of research, administrative, etc. The green roof space
becomes singular: an outdoor classroom where teaching so you can see the strategies that can be implemented to reduce energy consumption in
buildings: solar panels, green roofs, cross ventilation, sun protection , thermosyphons, rainwater harvesting, low-power devices, in short simple
actions that can make a difference for the environment.
Access to the building is at the level of the Conservation Plaza , the green roof starts at the level of the Plaza and rises gently to make part of the
environment, so that spaces are used under the zero level of access. Given these conditions required a structural system that would support the
weight generated by the materials needed for the green roof and opted for a concrete structure, to achieve optimum sound insulation chose a
lightweight wall system, allowing easy maintenance and provide a reduced load to the main structure, making the most efficient package

Innovation and transferability - Progress
The educational approach of the project requires that materials and techniques used are easily accessible and implementation at other levels
(such as housing for example), the building is intended to be a laboratory where you can easily check each of the strategies used in the project:
green roofs (used as outdoor classroom), solar panels, cross ventilation, sun protection, thermosiphon principle, proper orientation to the sun,
respect for the natural environment, use of rainwater, use of equipment, low power consumption, and especially concerns regarding the research
environment and how man has adapted over time to their environment without destroying it. The spaces were designed with the fundamental
principle of flexibility.

Ethical standards and social equity - People
The project's philosophy is inclusive and is expected to train residents in the area surrounding the project named "Banker of the train" on issues of
construction (to make part of the implementation of the project) as well as Tour Guides (During the operation), have entered into agreements
with educational institutions to achieve this goal
[ Self assessment ]
Environmental quality and resource efficiency - Planet
The architectural design ensures adequate thermal comfort throughout the life of the building, with minimal maintenance. The educational
approach of the project is that the building is a great laboratory showing constructive strategies which are environmentally friendly and how they
can be easily implemented. (Green cover, thermosiphon, solar panels, solar protection, cross ventilation)

Economic performance and compatibility - Prosperity
The design of the different areas of the building permit their use for various purposes in addition to the educational activities planned as part of
tour of the Bioparque: temporary exhibitions, conferences, including simultaneous access because it has several distinct and different levels,
allowing be leased to external customers that require it.Thus the economic benefits will accrue to the promoters of the project, the neighbors
who will be employed and end users have a new educational space
[ Self assessment ]
Contextual and aesthetic impact - Proficiency
The place where it implants the building is a gentle hill that has a prime location because it has a 360 degree visual and symbolic center of the
project, access to the building is at the level of the Plaza de la Conservation, the green roof starts to Plaza level and rises gently to make part of the
environment, the spaces like exhibition, auditorium etc,are under the zero level of access and all interior spaces are open to the surrounding
natural landscape, giving natural light and ventilation. The objective is to minimize the impact of a large structure in a beautiful natural
environment, subordinated architectural form to the natural environment but supplementing and enriching
