The Unconscious Biases
Most common assumptions when interviewing:
★ The “job hopper”
★ “Personal data” judges
★ Banks vs techie companies
★ Privilege candidates vs potential.
★ 40-year-old coders
None of that should factor into the first part of the screening process when deciding whether to contact a
candidate!

What could you do starting today?
★ Train yourself. Work on it! There’re a lot of diversity trainings online, understand your own biases and work
on defeating them.
★ Plan your D&I strategy: evaluate your workplace through discussion groups, surveys and perhaps
independent consultants
★ Is your job posting just for men? Explicitly invite underrepresented people to apply in the body of your job
post.
★ Do you run whiteboard interviews for every role? They evaluate candidates' knowledge of a very specific
thing—algorithms and data structures—with no consideration of the rest of their skills.
★ Understand the minorities in your community: Get in contact with fb groups, meetups, ONGs. Sponsor
their events. Get to know them and open your business to them
★ Embrace a growth mindset! Go beyond what you know, try to understand technical aspects so you can
grow with the industry
★ Reduce assumptions: Develop a genuine interest in knowing people and their stories.

any gender, race, disability, religion, sexuality, socio-economic background, can thrive and succeed.
It’s not just a coincidence that in Nolte, 40% of the engineering team are women. It takes passion,
conviction and hard work, and we’re still learning how to be better every day!
We have the unique opportunity of revalue the concept of candidate experience, trying each
candidate as we like to be treated as customers.
All this is also about inclusion and diversity!
