FITNESS:
Fitness is a term which often used synonymous to
health in a limited manner. Fitness denotes different facts
of health.
PHYSICAL FITNESS:
Physical Fitness is an individualized index, that it
relates to the role one has to perform in life in various
capacities.
HEALTH :
Health is a state of complete physical, mental and
social well-being and not merely the absence of disease
or infirmity. [World Health Organization]
PHYSICAL EDUCATION:
Education through physical activities
Educating an individual to lead a happy
and healthy life.
Leading a happy and healthy is called
Wellness.
Will the physical education help to achieve
wellness?
YES
ROLE OF EDUCATION
 Preparation for community, social & cultural life for interdependence and
international understanding
 Contributing to the quality of life - intellectual, physical, emotional and
aesthetic development.
 As preparation for working life, for creation and production.
 As preparation for mobility and change
 As preparation for participation in the development of community, the
nation and mankind.

MISCONCEPTIONS OF PHYSICAL
EDUCATION
 Physical education is equated to competitive sports; or to muscles and
perspiration; or calisthenics done to the cadence of counts.
 To understand what is meant by physical education, it seems imperative to
clarify what is meant by education, and then what is meant by physical
education as applied to education

EDUCATION SHOULD ENSURE THAT THERE
IS A PROGRESSIVE DEVELOPMENT OF
INNATE ABILITIES.
“EDUCATION IS NATURAL, HARMONIOUS
AND PROGRESSIVE DEVELOPMENT OF
MAN’S INNATE POWERS’.

SINCE THE SCHOOL AND COLLEGE IS ONE
OF THE MOST IMPORTANT AGENCIES OF
PROMOTING AND MAINTAIN
DEMOCRACY, IT MUST PROVIDE
OPPORTUNITY FOR EVERYONE TO GROW
AND DEVELOP TO FULLEST EXTENT OF
THEIR CAPABILITIES

ALL ROUND DEVELOPMENT HAS BEEN
CONSIDERED AS THE FIRST AND
FOREMOST AIM OF EDUCATION.
THEREFORE EDUCATION NEEDS TO BE

SPIRITUAL AND AESTHETIC QUALITIES
