Read Kerry Dirk, “Navigating
Genres” and do the “What Is
Genre?” post.
M 8/28 Genre analysis exercise.
W 8/30 Analyzing parody examples. In-
class exercise: analyzing genres
for parody.
-Read Tom Connor, “Writing
the Well-Spun Spoof.”
-Bring three examples of the
genre you’ll be parodying.

2. F 9/01 Draft workshop, genre parody. Complete genre parody and
bring to class.***
M 9/04 No class – Labor Day
W 9/06 Genre Parody due.
***Draft workshops are mandatory. If you miss the workshop, or come without a
complete draft, you will lose 25 points.
