For this criteria I will be producing a written evaluation of the effectiveness of magistrates and juries
in the administration of justice in the English legal system.
Firstly, I will define key terms, e.g. Lay person, magistrates, Jury members etc.
Lay People
A Lay Person has no formal qualification in law.
Magistrates
Magistrates are volunteers who hear cases in courts in their community. Each case is usually heard
by 3 magistrates, including a magistrate who is trained to act as a chairperson

procedures. Magistrates pass the most serious crimes (e.g. murder, rape and robbery) to the Crown

Effective Peer Feedback
The progress I have made in my ability to provide effective peer feedback is that I try as hard as
possible to correctly see all the errors on the essay and make sure that the author knows about it and
fix it for their original essay. This method really help out the author so that they know what they

I know that for personal essay, it is more of a relax essay and quite fun to write. However, research
papers are quite hard to write as you have to incorporate quotes and support your claim with articles
relating to the prompt. In this writing class, we had four assignment in which three of them was an
essay. The last assignment could be an essay, but my professor wanted us to answer the prompt in
a creative way such as drawing, doing a brochure, take pictures, etc. I experienced four types of
writing forms in this class and I hope later throughout my college years, I can experience more types
of essay that can help me become a better and stronger

Standardized Testing is NOT Effective Essay
Standardized testing is not an effective way to test the skills and abilities of today's students.
Standardized tests do not reveal what a student actually understands and learns, but instead only
prove how well a student can do on a generic test. Schools have an obligation to prepare students
for life, and with the power standardized tests have today, students are being cheated out of a proper,
valuable education and forced to prepare and improve their test skills. Too much time, energy, and

Teachers are being forced to give up their lesson plans in order to prepare students. One teacher told
how she had spent considerable time and money assembling books of importance to Latino culture,
and how her students had responded enthusiastically to her initiative. Her students, however, would
have to wait to learn about the Latino culture:
She was dismayed to see, upon returning one day from lunch, that the books for her week's lessons
had been set aside. In the center of her desk was a stack of test–prep booklets with a teacher's guide,

Additionally, standardized tests have the ability to make or break a student. Today, children are
being failed, denied access to an advanced program or school, or even refused a high school
diploma on the basis of a single standardized test (Sacks 3). Moreover, these tests can determine
whether students will spend their summer vacation on the beach or sweating out summer school.
Since standardized tests have a great deal of power, students are forced to prepare for them rather
than learn valuable knowledge, simply for the sake that they can graduate or enter into the program
or school of their choice.

leaders possess unique qualities and traits that enable them to lead a group of people. One
entrepreneur that was able to become a very successful and influential leader was Steve Jobs. He

that the order is accurate. But often times, orders get backed up slightly for shipping because the

students and be very clear. The lesson plans also use multiple strategies of teaching so that all of the
students learn the material. It should state the objective and explain why the students are learning
the material. Demonstrations help the students to better understand hard material. "Excellent
communication skills are essential for effective teachers." (Wendel, 1993, p. 52) Throughout the
lesson plan the teacher should stop and check for understanding in order to address any confusion or
difficulties the student may have. Repeating difficult ideas and stressing important points both help
students learn better. Being organized involves using time wisely. Knowing just how much time to
spend on a subject before moving on to the next is important. Effective teachers signal transition to
new topics and explain how the topics fit. They also grab and keep the student's attention and keep
them interested. They keep them involved in class discussions and call on students by their first
names. If the students are not interested in the material they will not learn anything.

Imprisonment; is it beneficial or non–beneficial? This argument is presented from the viewpoint of
both sides of this issue. One group, "The Council on Crime in America", is pro–incarceration; while
on the other side of this issue, " The National Criminal Justice Commission", is con–incarceration.
Both sides have presented their viewpoints clearly and factually.
Those who are for incarceration present their opinions in such a way as to sway the reader toward
accepting what they say as the only answer to fight back against the growing crime rate. If the

for all concerned. They stated that in some areas, young men consider imprisonment as a rite of
passage or a badge of honor. Furthermore, disapproval is expressed about how the government
spends more tax dollars housing prisoners than it does on school budgets, libraries, parks and others.
They go on to point out that incarceration helps contribute to crime when a person becomes an
inmate in prison, he or she must follow "the laws of the jungle". Only the strongest of the prisoners
can survive the violent environment in prison. Therefore, when a prisoner is released, he or she
takes this violent attitude with them. People such as Joanne Page, who have worked with recently
released prisoners, find them shaped by the behavior they learned in prison. Professionals relate their
anti–social behavior to post–traumatic stress disorder. They also feel that prison conditions make it
hard for the prisoner to make the transition from incarceration to freedom. Moreover, a large portion
of male offenders who receive longer prison terms that their crime calls for disrupts their family
