In the present thesis, the concept for beyond 3G mobile radio systems is described. A service area concept is introduced in order to combat the performance limiting interferences present in the cellular mobile communication systems, with each service area consisting of a various simultaneously active mobile terminals, a number of fixed access points and a central unit per- forming signal processing. About uplink transmission, the main characteristic of this service area system is that with the aid of joint detection of the transmit signals from the mobile ter- minals performed at uplink transmission, all interferences between the simultaneously active mobile terminals using the same bandwidth is drastically reduced. Moreover the use of OFDM subcarrierwise in the described service area based system allows for intersymbol interference free communication and for simple equalization in the frequency domain. Through this subcarrierwise equalization the service area based system is equivalent with a number of smaller parallel systems, a fact that affects in a reduced computational complexity in the case of optimum multiuser operating with the maximum likehood principle and subop- timum linear detector zero-forcing. In this thesis the parallel interference cancellation detector is introduced, according to which the multi access interference is iteratively reconstructed and subtracted from the received signal. Parallel interference cancellation detector is compared in terms of performance with suboptimum linear detector, due to the reduced computational com- plexity. Using standardized COST 207 channel models, the performance of parallel interference can- cellation detector compared with suboptimum linear detector has been investigated for a frozen channel, with the same snapshot using the same parameters of the channel, as well as for a number of system loads. A fact that can be observed in simulations results is that parallel in- terference cancellation detectors could achieve the same performance with a reduction of the complexity as suboptimum linear detector zero-forcing in the case of no estimate refinement and with estimate refinement by hard quantization depending on the load system. With esti- mate refinement by soft quantization the performance of the parallel interference cancellation detector is improved, having better performance than zero-forcing detector in cases with nor- mal load. Moreover with the improvement raised in this thesis, in this normal system load, the performance is more improved. On the other hand in the case of full load system, the PIC detector can not substract all the multi access interference producing error flow, this thing is not too important taking in account that the fully loaded system case should not be never present.

Carrier aggregation is the most demanded feature out of the LTE-Advanced (3GPP Release 10) feature set. This feature allows the aggregation of component carrier that for instance reside in different frequency bands. Especially U.S.-based network operator show a strong interest in carrier aggregation, as it is the way out of the very fragmented spectrum allocation here in the U.S. Carrier aggregation is adding some complexity to LTE and of course our customers have an interest to understand the feature in greater detail as well as how our solutions, especially the CMW500, could be utilized to test carrier aggregation. The attached TechPaper is our response to this demand. On 12 pages carrier aggregation is described with all of its aspects, different types and modes, impact on signaling procedures and how to test using Rohde&Schwarz turnkey solutions, including CMW500.

Multiple Input and Multiple Output (MIMO) and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system have the potential to achieve very high capacity depending on the propagation environment. The objective of this paper is the adaptive resource allocation in MIMOOFDM system using the waterfilling algorithm. Water filling solution is implemented for allocating the power in order to increase the channel capacity. The total system capacity is maximised subject to the constraints on total power, signal to noise ratio, and proportional fairness. Channel is assumed as a flat fading channel and the comparison is made for different 2x2, 2x3, 3x2 and 4x4 MIMO-OFDM systems using waterfilling algorithm with allocated power. Also in order to prove that the MIMOOFDM with waterfilling algorithm provides the best performance a comparison with various SISO - OFDM is done.

A MANET is an autonomous collection of mobile users that communicate over relatively bandwidth constrained wireless links. When designing mobile ad hoc networks, several interesting and difficult problems arise because of the shared nature of the wireless medium, limited transmission power (range) of wireless devices, node mobility, and battery limitations. This paper aims at providing a new schema to improve Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) Protocol. The aim behind the proposed enhancement is to find the best route in acceptable time limit without having broadcast storm. Moreover, O-DSR enables network not only to overcome congestion but also maximize the lifetime of mobile nodes. Some simulations results show that the Route Request (RREQ) and the Control Packet Overhead decrease by 15% when O-DSR is used, consequently. Also the global energy consumption in O-DSR is lower until to 60 % , which leads to a long lifetime of the network.

A fundamental problem before carriers today is to optimize network cost and performance by better resource allocation to traffic demands. This is especially important with the packet infrastructure becoming a critical business resource. The key to achieving this is traffic engineering (TE), the process of systematically putting traffic where there is capacity, and backbone capacity management, the process of ensuring that there is enough network capacity to meet demand, even at peak times and under failure conditions, without significant queue buildups. In this talk, we first focus on the TE techniques and approaches used in the networks of two large carriers: Global Crossing and Sprint, which represent the two ends of the traffic engineering spectrum. We do so by presenting a snapshot of their TE philosophy, deployment strategy, and network design principles and operation. We then present the results of an empirical study of backbone traffic characteristics that suggests that Internet traffic is not self-similar at timescales relevant to QoS. Our non-parametric approach requires minimal assumptions (unlike much of the previous work), and allows us to formulate a practical process for ensuring QoS using backbone capacity management. (This latter work is joint with Thomas Telkamp, Global Crossing Ltd. and Arman Maghbouleh, Cariden Technologies, Inc.)

On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol. This paper presents a novel multicast routing protocol for mobile ad hoc wireless networks. The protocol, termed ODMRP (On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol), is a mesh-based, rather than a conventional tree- based, multicast scheme and uses a forwarding group concept (only a sub- set of nodes forwards the multicast packets via scoped flooding). It applies on-demand procedures to dynamically build routes and maintain multicast group membership. ODMRP is well suited for ad hoc wireless networks with mobile hosts where bandwidth is limited, topology changes frequently, and power is constrained. We evaluate ODMRP’s scalability and performance via simulation.

Routing in MANET is complex due to the fact that the network graph is episodically connected and nodes get only intermittently connected because of nodes mobility, terrain, weather, and jamming that change topology rapidly. In this paper, we propose cross-layer design to achieve a reliable data transmission in MANET. A key challenge is to create a mechanism that can provide good delivery performance and high quality of service in intermittent networks. The key components of our approach include a cross-layer design (CLD) to improve information sharing between different protocol layers. In order to improve the end-to-end performance of MANET, we present mechanism that allows the network layer to adjust its routing protocol dynamically based on SNR and Received Power along the end-to-end routing path for each transmission link. We evaluate our approach using one of common MANET routing protocols, DSR, to illustrate that our CLD improved the performance of DSR.

The increasing demand of computer networks is growing rapidly day by day. The growing need to distribute applications across multiple networks with high capacity and high-performance intermediate switching nodes and networks. This research primarily focuses on route redistribution and route summarization of different intra-domain routing protocols such as EIGRP and OSPF. Routing Protocols that use facilitate to exchange routing information between routers. Reasons such as multiple departments managed by multiple network Administrators, company mergers. In any case, having a multiple routing protocol and different autonomous system in networks then without route redistribution we cannot advertise route from source to destination. Of course Network complexity will increase with the size of routing table of routers then route summarization is necessity, to reduce traffic and complexity of network.

An ad hoc network is a collection of wireless mobile nodes dynamically forming a temporary network without the use of any fixed network infrastructure or centralized administration. In order to enable communication within the network, a routing protocol is needed to discover routes between nodes. The primary goal of ad hoc network routing protocols is to establish routes between node pairs so that messages may be delivered reliably and in a timely manner. The objective of any routing protocol is to have packet delivered with least possible cost in terms of receiving power, transmission power, battery energy consumption and distance. All these factors basically effect the establishment of link between the mobile nodes and liability and stability of these links. In this paper, we implement a data link quality scheme on two protocols ODMRP and ADMR and compare them on the bases link quality and link stability.

In ad hoc routing protocols the source node may need an intermediate nodes to transmit the packets into the destination if the destination is not within transmission range of the source. This paper studies the impact of signal strength of nodes over ad hoc routing protocols and explains an important effect of signal strength on ad hoc routing protocols in four different directions including the routes and the nodes. As a result the study give an important improvement in ad hoc routing protocols when using signal strength compared to other ad hoc routing protocols without considering signal strength.
