2. Tribes
For my presentation I am doing the Hopi
and the Navajo.
Both tribes are similar and different in
their own ways
They are both in the Southwest region
3. Shelters
The Navajo live in a round wooden house
covered with sand called a Hogan. They
used sand to protect themselves from
hot heat
The Hopi lived in a square adobe house
called a pueblo. The adobe protects
them from desert heat and cold winters
4. Food Sources
was great for them cause the climate.
They both hunted and they farmed and
there crops included corn, beans,
squash, cotton and hunted antelope and
deer.
5. Clothing
They both used the animal skins they
got from hunting the antelope and
stitching cloth together
But later on they had sheep to make
wool for clothes. Then they grew cotton
and went up from there
6. Everyday life
The men farmed hunted and built.
The woman cooked and collected berries
The kids helped the mother with her
house work and the father or men hunt
for food.
7. Tradition and Ceremonies
They would dance around a fire praying
to a certain God every time.
They did their tradition at least once a
year to please there Gods
They were both very organized about
when they would schedule the
celebration before
8. Crafts
The Hopi and the Navajo made colored
rugs using dyes they made they also
dyed sand to make sand paintings
They also made jewelry out of many
materials like silver, gold, polished
rocks, and crystals.
They made polished rocks by cleaning
the rock very well with warm water
9. Miners Materials
They both mined in deep caves for iron
and gold.
Many of them died from the caves toxic
air and the caves collapsing.
10. Weapons and tools
The Hopi made bows, arrows, spears,
and hoes.
The Navajo made spears, rawhide
shields, pump drills, and rakes.
Later the Hopi and the Navajo traded
and both learned how to make each
others items.
