Recently, biosynthesis of metal nanoparticles has drawn considerable attention due to environment friendly and sustainable methods. Herein, Bacillus subtilis TD 6 was selected as candidate for biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). These nano-sized silver particles (AgNPs) at concentration of 500 ppm were synthesized using maize and potato starch as both reducing and stabilizing agent. A solution containing AgNPs (500 ppm) was diluted with distilled water to 100 and 50 ppm and applied to cotton fabrics in presence of binder. The finished fabric characterization was carried out using UV-Vis spectroscopy. The antibacterial activity of the treated fabrics loaded with AgNPs was evaluated against Escherichia coli (gram negative) and Staphylococcus aureus (gram positive) bacteria. Results explored that, binder retains excellent antibacterial properties even after 20 washing cycles reflecting the significance of binder in fixation of AgNPs deposits on the surface of the fabrics.

SILVER NANOPARTICLE IMPREGNATED BIOMEDICAL FIBER

International Journal of Technical Research & Application

This work shows a method to prepare manganese nanoparticles on carbon substrate and some inorganic and organic salts such as carbonate, nitrate, chloride, citrate and acetate from spent dry battery cells. The method involves dismantling the cell followed by sulfuric acid leaching of the whole contents at temperatures up to 75°C for 3 hours. The leaching products were filtered and the metals went into solution were determined. Metals other than manganese were chemically separated whereby manganese hydroxide was precipitated at pH 8. Nanoparticles of manganese were prepared by direct reduction of the hydroxide using hydrazine hydrate. The hydroxide salt reacted with the respective acid to prepare the required salt. Results revealed that manganese content in the spent battery cell amounts to 22 % by weight. Leaching extent in sulfuric acid increased with the increasing the acid molarity up to 3, temperature of leaching up to 75 °C, leaching time up to 3 hours and stirring conditions. The quality of the products have been characterized by XRD, SEM and FT-IR investigations. The activation energy of the acid leaching of manganese amounts to kJ.mol.

Lending is a risky principal business activity for banks as repayment can seldom be fully guaranteed. The study seeks to examine impact of borrower character on loan repayment in commercials Banks – in Kakamega town, Kakamega County. It examined impact of borrower character on loan repayment in commercial banks within Kakamega town. A cross-sectional survey design with a sample of 105 respondents was selected using purposive sampling and simple random sampling. The study may add to the already existing literature on effects borrower character, and loan repayment; enable commercial banks identify the credit management policies that are critical in the lending business; lending policy formulation and assessment of its loan risk management abilities ; may provide guidance to the Central Bank and other regulators in the credit risk management, policy formulation and to stimulate further research into the area of lending policy formulation and performance of loans. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect the data, processed and analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS V22). It has been established that there is a strong positive relationship between borrower character on loan repayment. Evidence from the study suggests that borrower character greatly influences loan repayment.

Model Licenses and License Templates: Present and Future

This program will first review standard model licenses we have available in the field, including models such as LicensingModels.org and LibLicense, plus institution-specific licenses available online (permission will be obtained). The licenses similarities and differences will be compared, and strengths and weaknesses will be highlighted. Next, the program will review steps and best practices for creating a License Template at your institution, with standard language that you can use in negotiation for your licenses. The last segment will be interactive, gathering feedback from attendees about where our model licenses have gaps, including what formats or kinds of purchases require new language that has not yet been standardized (such as ebooks and streaming media), and gather suggestions for developing these as a community for the future, creating a new model license that we all can draw from. During my tenure, I have created an institutional license template and begun work on new, standardized terms not currently found in our model licenses. I also negotiate system-wide licenses with major publishers. I've been negotiating licenses within libraries since 2005. I believe we need to work as a community to continually develop standard terms to use within our licenses and consider the challenges that new formats, new purchasing arrangements, and new legal cases present to us.

Fanvids, or music videos constructed of recombined clips from movies or TV, have a 30-year history within a predominantly female subculture, and often make feminist and/or queer statements about their mass media source texts. Today, YouTube and its ilk render them more accessible and visible than ever before. The maturation of internet video sharing has enabled a riot of cross-pollination among moving image mashups, but this "mainstreaming" also carries the risk of detaching nuanced artworks from their interpretive context and diluting their vital underground community. Meanwhile, the media industry is becoming increasingly attuned to such fan production, both as lucrative promotional labor (when harnessed as "user-generated content") and as a target of takedown notices (when conducted outside proprietary control). Is profit the only axis of legitimacy for popular appropriations, and can queer viewing be monetized? Why is it that you've seen more Brokeback Mountain parodies than fanvids? Why does this material so often get TOSsed from YouTube, and what can you do about it? Finally, what can fanvids teach us about grassroots queer media, and about how to nurture it for the 21st century?
