Poetry segment u2
1. This week we're delving into the world of poetry. Some of you might feel this is the reason you took the class--you LOVE poetry, others might feel you took the class despite this segment...I invite you to explore some of your favorite music. Quite often songwriters are poets in rock-star's clothing. Think about U2--(one of MY favorite things to do...) Their song quot;

is right out of The Bible (read Psalms 40)
quot;

I waited patiently for the LordHe inclined and heard my cryHe brought me up out of the pitOut of the miry clayI will sing, sing a new songI will sing, sing a new songHow long to sing this song
How long to sing this songHow long...how long...how long...How long...to sing this songHe set my feet upon a rockAnd made my footsteps firmMany will seeMany will see and fear...
quot;
Love is Blindnessquot;

How different are they without music? How does the music change the words? Does it change the meaning?Look for symbolism, theme, tone, metaphor, alliteration, etc. here and you will find them--along with all the passion, depth of feeling, and artistic/writer-ly creativity of any other poet.Now, take a look at some of your own favorite songs--find the poetry within them. Go to the assignments folder and tell me about one of your favorite songs as poetry.
