Think about while you read 5.2…Will you be able to answer these questions What characteristics of civilization will we learn about in this chapter?  What everyday objects might be examples of these characteristics? What kinds of things might ancient Sumerians have left behind that could be examples of these characteristics? Let’s make a prediction… on  a blank piece of paper, try and answer these  ??swith your city-state.
What do we do? Follow these steps to analyze the artifacts from ancient Sumer: 1. Roll one of the dice to determine which characteristic of civilization you will read about. If you have already read this section, roll again. 2. Read the corresponding section in Chapter 5 of History Alive! The Ancient World. 3. Carefully examine the artifacts posted around the room and read the accompanying archeologist’s notes. Find as many artifacts as possible that are examples of the characteristic of civilization you just read about. 4. Complete the corresponding section of your Reading Notes. For each artifact you choose, remember to make a simple sketch and to complete the sentence about how it relates to that characteristic of civilization. 5. Bring your Reading Notes to your teacher to be checked. Then start over at Step 1.
