Homework By Luke W. and Cole K.
Slavery There is a name for working without getting paid. It’s called slavery So if kids are forced to do homework, they should get paid Adults have their way of making money, so why cant kids have their way of making money?
Obesity Doctors are always proving that American kids are to fat, and a major reason why they are is because they are sitting inside doing 4 hours of homework, instead of running around and getting fresh air and playing sports.
Energy Think of how many trees we cut down a day for paper. Pollution could be reduced if we cut down less trees, mostly for homework paper.
Stress Much of why stress happens for kids is if they play a very time consuming sport, like baseball, basketball, soccer, tennis, and football and they have enough to worry about already without homework So another 3 hours of homework on an away game day makes you want to yell at the teachers
Sleep The number 1 reason why American kids do not get enough sleep is because they are staying up until 11:00 every night doing homework If there was lesshomework, then kids could get enough exercise and they would be able to get in bed really early and get a good night sleep without worrying.
School Everybody has to go to school to get an education There is definitely a need for school, or you would be 30 years old and not know how to do multiplication and division So you need to have an education to be a good person But…..
Bad teaching Homework is just proof of bad teaching, because if we had no homework, the teacher would teach the material in class. So if kids have to do homework, its proof that teachers weren’t good enough to teach the material in class.
Study Halls If by now you still think that homework is useful, then look at study halls Kids should have less classes and more study halls Study halls help a little bit, but not much Half of each class you should probably have some time to get work done
Every kids’ point So why are we writing this power point? I am not saying kids should sit around playing modern warfare 2 all day I am saying that homework causes every kid to scream I know we do on stressful nights
The only upside The only thing OK about homework is that there are short term retention improvements but no long-term proven benefits. So what teachers should probably do is only give homework on quiz or test weeks, NOT randomly
Less Homework There should be a law that you will go to jail if you give more than 1 hour of homework to slow workers
Research We did some research on reliable sources and it said that the more homework that’s assigned, the grumpier kids get These sources said that kids don’t get anything out of homework if they get more than an hour and a half of homework because their brain isn’t functioning and either they don’t understand something or face book is tempting them
Overall If you don’t believe us or think this is bogus, here are the sources sited http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/11/AR2006091100908.html   http://www.alfiekohn.org/teaching/edweek/homework.htm
