2. Problem Statement In times when a education is so important how can we motivate our youth to stay in school and away from drugs and guns?
3. Problem Nearly one in five U.S. men between the ages of 16 and 24 (18.9 percent) were dropouts in 2007.Nearly three of 10 Latinos, including recent immigrants, were dropouts (27.5 percent).More than one in five blacks dropped out of school (21 percent). Nearly 6.2 million students in the United States between the ages of 16 and 24 in 2007 dropped out of high school, fueling what a report released Tuesday called "a persistent high school dropout crisis.“ Education
4. Significance of the Study? "Americans without a high school diploma have considerably lower earning power and job opportunities in today's workforce. Over a working lifetime from ages 18-64, high school dropouts are estimated to earn $400,000 less than those that graduated from high school. Due to their lower lifetime earnings and other sources of market incomes, dropouts will contribute far less in federal, state and local taxes than they will receive in cash benefits, in-kind transfers and correctional costs. Over their lifetimes, this will impose a net fiscal burden on the rest of society. adults with high school diplomas contribute major fiscal benefits to the country over their lifetime. The combined lifetime fiscal benefits -- including the payment of payroll, federal, and state income taxes --- could amount to more than $250,000 per graduated student
5. Research Purpose In the current global economy, having at least a high school diploma is a critical step for avoiding poverty, through the research I would like to find ways to motivate students to stay in school and away from drugs and guns.
7. Ways to Motivate Students to Stay in School Today, as it has been for the past decades, whenever teachers want to stress a point, they use posters, handouts, videos, lectures and strict monitoring to educate and keep an eye on their students. These are all excellent strategies, , the posters should avoid being boring and colorless, and the lectures should not be one-way campaigns.

Ways to Motivate Students to Stay in School-Sports involve the students in clubs and sports Students that are involved in sportst have higher self esteem when they are involved in more intense physical activity membership in sports also offers girls "a greater pool of adult role models from where they can draw guidance and support."
9. Ways to Motivate Students to Stay in School- Counseling and Peer Groups Many schools have adopted a policy of having one-on-one counseling as well as group counseling. These are activities that bring out into the open sensitive issues that stay within the meeting's confines.
10. Ways to Motivate Students to Stay in School- Counseling and Peer Groups Random student drug testing (RSDT) is a drug prevention activity that helps deter students from taking illegal drugs. If students are aware of this program, and they and their parents voluntarily sign an agreement regarding RSDT, they have a big incentive to stay drug-free. On the other hand, students who refuse to volunteer can fall under mandatory testing (like student drivers and athletes). If they are found to be using illegal drugs, then the RSDT still manages to accomplish one goal of pinpointing drug users and getting them the help they need. Motivation
11. Students can be motivated The song and video was an assignment to encourage students not to let peer pressure affect their education and make it to their high school graduation in 2014. Students were put on behavior contracts and as long as they stayed out of trouble, their teacher would allow them to perform their song at the graduation ceremony. Motivation
12. Conclusion If we would like to motivate our students to stay in school I believe we should: offer more alternatives schools should offer real-life opportunities more help with learning problems tutoring more school counselors more communication between parents and teachers better mentoring between students and teachers
