Persuasive Research Paper Outline
Week One Overview Everything you write has a purpose. Informal emails, texts, memos, essays,
and research papers are just a few examples. Your objective might be to persuade an audience to
accept new points of view or agree with your ideas. You might want to influence people to support
your stand on an issue. Writing a formal persuasive research paper is one way to induce others to
agree with your argument. In this course, you will have the opportunity to compose an argument
that will convince others to agree with your facts, share your values, accept your argument, and
elect your way of thinking about a topic. The first step is to define your topic, thesis/claim, and
purpose. Planning Your Persuasive Research Paper Next, you will create an Organizational Plan
and research your topic. The end result will be a formal persuasive research paper. The outcomes
and objectives for this course are that upon completion of the course you will be able to produce a
formal persuasive research paper. The activities you complete will help you through the writing
process. You will develop new perspectives on your topic. There are Weekly Objectives you will
complete which are supported by activities and related multimedia. Interacting with the e–learning
environment and using multimedia will enhance your knowledge of the objectives. As a result, you
will be...show more content...
In addition, the writing experience at the end of the course will help you with persuasive speaking in
front of an audience. To get you started, the activities and assignments will ease you into thinking
about the argument, and help you consider what direction your paper might take. This knowledge
will give you reasons to persuade your audience and to support your argument. In summation, you
will know how to define your topic, thesis/claim, and purpose of your

Persuasive Speech Outline On Poverty
Introduction
A. Attention Getter: Nearly one half of the world's population is living in poverty. Living in a low
income household can have many influences on a child's life, a large one being education.
B. Thesis Statement: To better understand how we can achieve education equality, we need to
understand how poverty affects one's education, how it affects one's health, and what we can do to
help.
C. Preview: We'll talk about how poverty affects education, how poverty affects health, and what we
can do to help.
Transition: Education is affected by many factors, the first one we'll examine is the effects of poverty.
Body
1. How poverty affects one's education.
A.Economic segregation is a problem in preschool classrooms across the country, according to the
article "Let Rich and Poor Learn Together". Poor children are being separated from the classrooms
of the higher class children. Research shows that poor children do much better academically in
classes that are economically mixed than they do if the classes are more economically segregated.
Research also shows that children who are well–off are not academically harmed by attending school
with poor children.

Parenting styles also have an effect on children's learning abilities. New research found that
parenting styles between high income white families and low income black families account for
some of the differences in school readiness between their children. According to the article "How
Poverty Affects Learning Ability" white adults spend 36% more time than black adults reading to
young children, and three more times talking and listening to their children. White adults also offer
more guidance towards her children. By age 6, white children have spent 1300 more hours talking
with adults than black children have. White parents offer the children more choices in daily life,

General Purpose: To persuade
Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience how to be more successful as a college student.
I.Introduction
A.Attention Getter: How many of you have said that there are too many options? Whether you
are talking about choosing a college, class selection once you get to college, or even something as
simple as choosing what to eat for dinner tonight. If you made a choice on what career field you
will enter after college, you come to find out that there are many a lot of choices for classes to
take. Or there may be too many prerequisites to take before you can begin your classes for your
choice of major. And if you are like me, you have no idea what you want to do and in this case,
there are more options than you can count. Today we are going to talk about the stressors that come
along with being a college student. Once we identify all the stressors or the most important and most
affective, we will then discuss how to reduce and omit them to help make your choices easier.

a.There are concerns about organic food.
Successful Meetings in an article "Food For Thought" written by Andrea Doyle in 2011 says " What
we consider specialty items––healthy, organic, hormone free––are usually 35 to 50 percent higher in
cost". Most groups just can't afford it.
b.Organic food has shorter shelf life.
This is important when it comes to fresh fruits and vegetables which start to lose nutritional value the
same moment they are harvested.
c.There are good outcomes when it comes to organic food.
Organic food is only healthier because it does not contain residues of any synthetic

a. College is an integral time period for many people – college is a time for freedom, receiving an
education, and learning what it means to survive on little to no food for long periods of time. Or at
least that's what it's been like for me. Food is arguably one of the most important things to a college
student, especially off–campus food. Many of you are probably thinking of that one food that you
could eat over and over again and never get tired of it. Of course food is important, though, or else
why would we be told to eat three square meals...show more content...
While many relate fasting to starving, this could not be further from the truth.
II.Body
a.The effects of fasting pertaining to physical health
i.In modern societies across the globe, humans typically eat meals three times daily, while
continuously snacking throughout the day. Overeating, especially with said eating patterns, has
lead to many metabolic morbidities and diseases such as obesity and heart disease when combined
with a sedentary lifestyle. Hundreds of years ago, humans and animals alike had adapted to an
environment in which food was scarce. This allowed for them to function cognitively and
physically at a very high level in a food deprived (or fasted) state.
ii.In their article Health effects of intermittent fasting: hormesis or harm?, Horne, Muhlestein, and
Anderson conclude that after many randomized, controlled clinical trials, some physical benefits
from fasting are as follows: "The body uses fats for energy during fasting, reducing fat storage and
resulting in a small, long–term reduction in risk after each fasting episode. Nutritional stress during
fasting, at least in part, results in cellular–level repairs, functional optimization, and metabolic
rejuvenation that may improve long–term health by reducing cardiovascular risk factors and acting
on the metabolism of glucose via genes." One of the main reasons for these benefits is that during
fasting, the

Persuasive Speech: Making healthy Nutritional decisions.
Specific Purpose: To persuade my classmates to make healthier nutritional choices.
Thesis Statement: Healthy eating is not something to worry about down the road; we need to act
now, while we are young to develop good habits for the future.
1.Introduction:
a.Attention Getter: I visited Holly Drougas–our very own licensed dietician here at Virginia Western.
I asked her, "What is the first thing that comes to mind when I say the word 'Nutrition'?" She shocked
me by saying, "Confusion". With so much conflicting and confusing information from both the
scientific community and the lay press, many people simply don't know what to eat to be healthy or
to lose weight.
b.Focus on Topic: Healthy eating is not about strict dietary limitations, staying unrealistically thin, or
depriving yourself...show more content...
Relevance: When it comes down to it, I'm not going to shove kale down your throat if you tell me
that you just hate kale, even though it appears to be another one of the big health crazes. I'm just
trying to show you all that eating healthy doesn't have to be a miserable experience, and despite our
limitations as college students, we can overcome the hurdles of Availability, Time, and Money, to
maintain a healthy diet.
e.Preview: So today, we're going to talk about the wonderful world of Nutrition, and I'm going to try
to convince you that carrots and celery aren't just rabbit food, but people food too.
2.Problem Step:
a.Internal Preview: So let's start with some reasons as to why so many people are confused about
what to eat: misinformation and marketing.
b.Since 1992 the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has provided the nutritional food
pyramid, which has been the standard by which many have ascribed as far as recommended food
intake. I'm sure this model looks familiar to most of you.

Body:
I. The death penalty has no deterrent effect
A. People commit murders largely in the heat of passion, under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or
because they are mentally ill, giving little or no thought to the possible consequences of their acts.
1. Claims that each execution deters a certain number of murders have been thoroughly discredited
by social science research.
a. According to the economist's voice, the few that do commit pre–meditated murders will be more
affected with life in prison.
1. Being in prison for life is tough enough, life imprisonment breaks down one's mental health
which is more detrimental and serves more as a "payback" to the murderer. 2. Death row in essence
is the "easy way out" for these criminals.
B. The time it takes for a prisoner to be executed has doubled since 2002.
1. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, it now takes on average about 178 months (about 15
years) for an execution occurs.
2. If all this time wasn't wasted, $3 million could have been saved as opposed spending $5 million
to keep the prisoner on death row.
C. Unlike the general population of prisoners, those who await Death row remain in solitary
confinement. 1. Death row inmate lives in a constant uncertainty of when they will be executed
a. This isolation and anxiety results in a sharp deterioration of their physical and mental status.
II. The costs of administering capital punishment are prohibitive.

Persuasive Essay On Procrastination
Have you ever postponed something super important because you wanted to have fun on a Friday
night? Convincing yourself "Oh, I'll just get it done tomorrow?" This action of putting off a task
until the next day or a later time is called procrastination. Someone displaying procrastination would
either be delaying their work for another job that they consider more important or distracting
themselves with an activity that is more interesting. Many people believe that only disorganized or
lazy people acquire or pick up this intrusive habit, but I disagree with this misconception. Productive
people, too, occasionally lack the desire to get things done on time. Take for example myself; I have
always struggled with this mannerism and even more...show more content...
The prefrontal cortex is what makes an individual decide to engage in a task. With that in mind,
putting work off makes it easier for the limbic system to dominate and give immediate pleasure
feelings which the brain prefers. In other words, people begin to manipulate this perception and
enjoy the short–term effects because it becomes more satisfying not to complete the task. This
habit can start to control how or when we choose to tend to our responsibilities (Spencer). I
recognize this feeling on a daily basis. For example, there was a day that I decided I was going to
study in the library as I would hopefully be more productive in that setting. However, as soon as I
sat down I began to fiddle with everything I could get my hands on. From obnoxiously twirling my
pencil to watching time–consuming YouTube videos, I wasn 't very productive, and as a result, I
had to cram until two AM for an exam the next day. I had always known thatprocrastination was
satisfying, and now with this new information that confirms that it feeds off of my "good" feelings
based on my body 's anatomy. Moving on, I then researched how to recognize why myself and
others procrastinate in the first place. The first reason people procrastinate is that they "become"
perfectionists. As procrastination becomes a more common act, it can also bring about the action of
perfectionism. Harold Taylor does a fantastic job at identifying perfectionism, along with other
reasons

Procrastination
I.Attention Getter: A famous author by the name of Wayne Dyer once said, "Procrastination is one
of the most common and deadliest of diseases and its toll on success and happiness is incredibly
heavy."(1) In todays society it seems as if procrastination has become a normal and acceptable thing
to do. It is often joked about amongst schoolmates and co–workers around the world. Nothing seems
to get done until it absolutely needs to get done, then everyone runs around getting things done
quickly and often times inaccurately. The trouble with this mentality however is that some things
will never get done because something will come up tomorrow or the next day and what you are
putting off now gets pushed even further back. Today I will persuade you to stop this habit from
continuing. I will be explaining the problems we face when dealing with procrastination as well as
how to deal with it and actions you can take to prevent it in the future.

great sources that provide a lot of information.
What Works? Why?
1. Introduction: Your introduction is the place where you catch the reader's attention. You want
this to be a place where you provide facts that will get the reader wanting to read the following
paragraphs. In a persuasive essay there is no place for the first person. By starting with "I

conclusion. The conclusion paragraph is the point where you wrap up your essay and you remind
the reader what your thesis was. Without a thesis, you don't have a place to connect the reader back
to the beginning.
Thesis: You are missing a thesis. The thesis helps you make your point about what the paper will
be about and tell the reader what points you will be touching on to prove your point. I would
suggest you pick three points that you feel will make a strong case on why or what is causing global
warming. After pointing out those three points you can write the paragraph that will include why
and how those things are hurting our animals, habitats and human life.
Structure: Overall your structure is good. I do see some grammatical and spelling errors. Like in
your conclusion you use the word "and" to connect the points you are making, you should try using
a comma to separate those points. There is also a really long sentence that can actually be broken up
into two

II.Body a.The effects of fasting pertaining to physical health i.In modern societies across the globe, humans typically eat meals three times daily, while continuously snacking throughout the day. • 17. Persuasive Essay On Procrastination Have you ever postponed something super important because you wanted to have fun on a Friday night? Convincing yourself "Oh, I'll just get it done tomorrow?" This action of putting off a task until the next day or a later time is called procrastination. Someone displaying procrastination would either be delaying their work for another job that they consider more important or distracting themselves with an activity that is more interesting. With that in mind, putting work off makes it easier for the limbic system to dominate and give immediate pleasure feelings which the brain prefers. In other words, people begin to manipulate this perception and enjoy the short–term effects because it becomes more satisfying not to complete the task. This habit can start to control how or when we choose to tend to our responsibilities (Spencer). I recognize this feeling on a daily basis. For example, there was a day that I decided I was going to study in the library as I would hopefully be more productive in that setting. However, as soon as I sat down I began to fiddle with everything I could get my hands on. From obnoxiously twirling my pencil to watching time–consuming YouTube videos, I wasn 't very productive, and as a result, I had to cram until two AM for an exam the next day. I had always known thatprocrastination was satisfying, and now with this new information that confirms that it feeds off of my "good" feelings based on my body 's anatomy. Moving on, I then researched how to recognize why myself and others procrastinate in the first place. The first reason people procrastinate is that they "become" perfectionists. As procrastination becomes a more common act, it can also bring about the action of perfectionism. Harold Taylor does a fantastic job at identifying perfectionism, along with other reasons Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 21. Outline For Persuasive Essay Thank you for positing your first draft for review! Strengths: Interesting topic. One we should all be talking about. Global warming is something that is not something that will happen in the future but is actually happening right now. You have lots of great sources that provide a lot of information. What Works? Why? 1. Introduction: Your introduction is the place where you catch the reader's attention. You want this to be a place where you provide facts that will get the reader wanting to read the following paragraphs. In a persuasive essay there is no place for the first person. By starting with "I believe..." you have already lost credibility. The reader will now think that your paper is based on your opinions rather than facts. Your thesis...show more content... Supporting Evidence: I feel you have strong supporting evidence. 4. Conclusion: Just like in your introduction the first person hasn't have a place in this paper. You do a great job proving your point but again it can all be for nothing by adding YOUR opinion to the conclusion. The conclusion paragraph is the point where you wrap up your essay and you remind the reader what your thesis was. Without a thesis, you don't have a place to connect the reader back to the beginning. Thesis: You are missing a thesis. The thesis helps you make your point about what the paper will be about and tell the reader what points you will be touching on to prove your point. I would suggest you pick three points that you feel will make a strong case on why or what is causing global warming. After pointing out those three points you can write the paragraph that will include why and how those things are hurting our animals, habitats and human life. Structure: Overall your structure is good. I do see some grammatical and spelling errors. Like in your conclusion you use the word "and" to connect the points you are making, you should try using a comma to separate those points. There is also a really long sentence that can actually be broken up into two Get more content on HelpWriting.net
