System Theory
Information systems can be classified into four types. These type are highly recognizable within an
organization, mainly for its effectiveness in terms of interpreting information. Information systems
are both manage by people such as analysts and automated systems such as databases servers, in a
way they complement each other. Its aim is to assist and maintain the management, operation, and
decision making of the organization's day to day procedures.
The first level of an Information Systems is the Transaction Processing Systems this system is
basically use to input, store, and output data transactions in an organization. Using this system we
can expect to have a very fast response due to today's demands that require immediate action, for
example making payments to a vendor. Since the data is stored we can say that TPS is very reliable
and low chance of failure rate. If failure does occur, individuals can easily modify data to resolve the
problem.
The second level of an Information system is the Management Information Systems (MIS) they are
mainly designed to make a summarized report for manager to use to evaluate business performance
to further improve its effectiveness and efficiency. The collected data in the first level of information
system (TPS) is transferred to MIS to be analyse to maximize the organization's overall system.
The Decision support systems (DSS) is the third level of the information system. It is primarily a

In the world today, technology is further developing every day. With all of the advancements in
technology, there is going to be a need for up and coming computer and information system
managers (CIS manager). So if one has discovered that becoming a computer and information
system manager is the career that one would like to pursue after graduating college, they will have
to understand all there is to know about this career choice.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics website, the official definition of a CIS manager's job is
to "plan, coordinate, and direct computer–related activities in an organization." (U.S. Bureau of
Labor Statistics). Furthermore, a manager of this field will work for an organization and will be
responsible for that organization's computer system needs (McKay, Dawn R.). In order to meet the
needs of the company's computer system, a CIS manager will have to be familiar with the benefits
and limitations of different types of computer hardware, software, and programs (Education Portal).
Being familiar with this information will allow the potential CIS manager to recommend
improvements for the company. Also with this knowledge, they will then help design, purchase, and

8.2 COMBINED DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTENANCE: Basically there are two approaches to
manage Information System (IS) Personnel. They are:  Combining the development and
maintenance into one part and is sub–divided by functional areas.  Advancement and Maintenance
individually. Combining the development and maintenance of system: In this approach both
development and maintenance are combined to organize Information System Personnel (ISP).
Generally, functional area sub–divides an area into teams. Each team is assigned to a system to
complete the requests of new development and maintenance. This approach appears to be logical as
the division between new development and adaptive maintenance is arbitrary. The advantages in this
approach includes:  Specialized and specific knowledge of functional areas.  Management of
systems is easy as each system is assigned to a team.  The system developers and maintainers are
same in this approach.  The development and maintenance continuity is a major advantage to
manage the ISP.  The experience of maintainers with actual development increases hence there is a
decrease in maintenance expenditure. Besides the advantages there are some disadvantages also for

Regular reports help managers perform their duties for example a summary report of sales figures of
a particular period in the year would allow managers to predict sales figures for the coming year and
plan ahead. This would not only help the manager of the store but it would also allow the person in
charge of purchasing stock, distribution, transportation, and finance to plan ahead of time as well.
The head of stock would have an idea of how much raw materials to buy, distribution manager
would have an idea of where to send it to the parts of the organisation which are most likely to
