2. This is Chloe Gould, and I shall be asking her some questions about her identity and whether or not she feels as though she belongs to a particular subculture… I shall also be doing the same for David Scott, who is very different in his beliefs and values. My video…..

4. Sub Cultures. Sub Cultures exist because humans have a need of belonging and want to be part of a group which share the same values. This clearly shapes there identity. Indie Rock and roll.
5. The roles which we adopt in Groups..... When in different groups it would seem we behave in a way which is suitable to that particular group, or social class. We also tend to behave in certain ways due to clothing which we wear, usually occurring when wearing a uniform, which expresses ones identity. We can label people according to their perceived social status.
6. Sub cultures have shared values which can sometimes be stereotyped. Goths: would be commonly associated with the colour black, which connotes seriousness and quite a morbid feeling, they would also have many body piercings. Chavs: Would be commonly associated with drugs, gangs and intimidating behaviour. Indie’s: Would be commonly associated with rock music, and having a passion in playing musical instrument. I personally Don't think I'm associated with any particular identity group, though I do have a group of close friends, to whom I share very similar values.
7. Social representations. A social representation is a stock of values, ideas, beliefs and practices that are shared amongst members of groups and communities. Muscovici I find that my family and I share the same values and beliefs, this is because of the way they have bought me up. The theorist Muscovici claims that our idea of the individual is very much a western creation, deriving from the western political attitude to individualism,
8. Values. I don’t really feel as if I belong to a particular sub culture, this is because I don't think I have one style of clothing which is stereotyped or well known. Though my friends and I do wear similar clothes, and seem to share the same values. My friends and I share the same values and similar taste in clothes and in what we like to wear.
9. Fashion and its power. The fashion industry has a major effect on many individuals. As due to the various advertisements and celebrities representing certain clothing, it reflects on society, and results in young girls feeling the need to buy things of the latest fashion, in order for them to feel accepted.

The person who you are confident to be. Hidden self Open self Core self The unknown self supposes that you have hidden depths; the area of yourself known neither to others or yourself. This is notknown to yourself, but can sometimes be shown to others. Unknown self Blind self
11. Make up…. Make up is a way of bringing up our selfesteem. It often raises your confidence, just by having longer eye lashes or having a darker complexion.
12. Me and my friends …. My friends and I like to wear make-up and make an effort with our appearance when we go out, as it makes us feel good about ourselves.
14. Consumer fetishism… Not only do the compliments of others help raise my self-esteem, but so do the brands/labels of clothes I wear. As I would have a higher self esteem if I was wearing a dress from Topshop rather than Primark, but in reality no one would know where my dress was from without looking at the label. Dress from Topshop- £165 Similar dress from Primark-£25 Shops with a high value.
15. Looking glass theory. Cooley’s theory ‘The looking glass theory’ this is when the positive and affirmative reactions of others on our particular outfit brings up your self esteem. As if I was going out, and my friends give me a nice compliment on a top I was wearing, it would make me feel good about myself and encourage me to wear that item of clothing in the future.
16. Self-Concept. Self-concept is the way in which we as individuals, respond to our individuality. The idea and opinions we have of ourselves. The opinion I have of myself is that I’m hard working and easy to talk to. Self-concept consists of three elements: 1. Self-image The person I would like to be, would be someone with big plans for the future and had a good job. 2. Ideal-self 3. Self-esteem I don’t think I have a low self-esteem, but then again I wouldn’t think I have a high self-esteem. Though I am usually quite confident.
17. The public self Concentric circles model. Rogers suggests that the gap between self-image and ideal self is likely to be a measure of individual’s self-worth or self-esteem. Coopersmith 1967 defines self esteem as a personal judgement of worthiness. The private self Core self
18. My public self is the person i feel comfortable to be, when in the company of others I am not familiar with. I feel as though my private self is the side of my personality I would feel comfortable showing to my family and close friends. However my core self is the side to my personality which I do not express to others, and keep it private to myself. Although in some cases I may not be aware of certain elements of my private self, this cold be a flaw which I am not consciously aware of. Relating myself to Rogers theory..
19. Mister Sixties The 60’s was very popular in its fashion, and influenced many others in its unique dress style. It was a decade like no other, with an explosion of new music and fashion. It was a time when women ambiguously discovered clothing in a way which had never been seen before.
20. Brightly coloured tights and unusual stockings, was bought in the 60’s. And now many years on they have been bought back to fashion. Fashion I have even started to wear knee high socks with certain items of clothing. Not only does this prove that fashion makes a huge influence on us, but that even the swinging sixties fashion effects us to this day....
21. Maslow's hierarchy of needs. This is when I am most content. How I feel about myself When I feel as if I belong to something or someone When I feel safe in my environment, for example my home. My health and making healthy choices.

25. Why are some things seen as low culture? The reason why many cultural products and practices are seen as low culture, can be due to the fact that they have not earnt their high value, either because of time, popularity, and even because of it not having any relevance to that country or expressing a country's beliefs or ‘culture’. For example, China would consider Coffee to be of low culture…..This is due to China being famous for its cultural product of tea.
26. Marxist theory. Marxist feminism is a sub-type of feminist theory, which focuses on the dismantling of capitalism as a way to liberate women. He stated that private property, which gives rise to economic inequality, dependence, and political confusion and ultimately unhealthy relations between men and women.
