2. Start to Finish Programs
Based on discussion with patrons, evaluating community needs and collaborating
with other libraries and staff, I designed and executed programs for all ages at the
library. This presentation focuses on my youth and family programming. My various
duties at the library allowed me to be directly involved with all steps in the
programming process to include:
• Community interaction to discover needs
• Program creation and design
• Planning to include purchasing of materials
• Promoting programs through marketing and in-house displays
• Executing program
• Preparing notes for future instances of program
Some important strategies that I have learned along the way:
• Plan ahead and stay organized
• Everyone has great ideas – get input from co-workers
• Keep materials in a box that can be used the next time you do the program
• Share your programs!
3. Summer Reading
Met with youth to discuss what types of activities
they would like for the summer
Planned & executed child, teen and adult Summer
Reading programming for main and two branch libraries
for three summers
Designed reading chart and all marketing to publicize
Summer Reading
Visited schools and Army Youth Services to promote
Summer Reading and programs
Coordinated ordering of prizes and materials needed
for programs
Planned and executed launch and end of Summer
Reading parties
Coordinated with local youth organizations to be able
to reach as many youth as possible during the summer
5. Youth Story Time
Provided themed story time
for
infants, toddlers, preschool,
kindergarten and school age
children. All included music
and another activity such as
a felt board story or finger
play. A craft that reinforced
the theme was a part of the
story times for toddlers and
older
