All things bright and beautiful
All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.
Each little flower that opens,
Each little birds that sings,
He made their glowing colors,
He made their tiny wings.
The rich man in his castle,
The poor man at this gate,
God made them, high and low
and ordered their state.
The purple headed mountain,
The river running by,
The sunset, and the morning,
That brightens up the sky.
The cold wind in the winter,
The pleasant summer sun,
The ripe fruits in the garden,
He made them every one.
The tall trees in the greenwood,
The meadows where we play,
The rushes by the water,
We gather everyday.
He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that he might tell,
How great is God Almighty,
Who has made all things well.
Adjectives
Adjectives are modifiers. They modify noun or
pronoun. This means they can change the image
of a noun or pronoun.
Picture a car in your mind.
Do you have an
image in your head?
Now make it red.
the red car
Now make it fast.
the fast car
Now make it green.
the green car
3 Types of Adjectives
1. Descriptive,
2. Limiting and
3. Proper
1.) Descriptive adjectives
- name a quality or condition of the element modified.
- add some sensory image to your sentence which
allows the reader to see, smell, hear, touch, or taste
something in the sentence.
Examples:
• a perfect marriage
• a red dress
• an honest person
• a running water
• a broken axle
2. ) Limiting adjectives
– identify or enumerate the element modified.
Limiting adjectives are classified according to
their functions as
• Demonstrative
• Indefinite
• Interrogative
• Numerical
• Possessive
a.) Demonstrative Adjectives
• Demonstrative adjectives point out a noun.
• They are the same words as the demonstrative
pronouns.
• There are four demonstratives:

that
these
those
b.) Indefinite Adjectives
- Indefinite adjectives point out nouns.
- They often tell “how many” or “how much” of
something.

many, more, most, much, neither, one, other,
several, some
c.) Interrogative Adjectives

questions.
Three of them were also interrogative pronouns:
• which
• what
• whose
d.) Numerical adjectives
- specifies a number as it modifies a noun or
pronoun. Numerical adjectives may be cardinal
or ordinal.
Cardinal Ordinal

Twenty-four boxes
6 ladies
Third horse
First guitar
2nd honor
e.) Possessive Adjectives
- show ownership of a noun.
- These words are the same as the possessive
pronouns.
Examples of possessive adjectives:
my, mine our, ours
your, yours their, theirs
his, her, hers, its
Limiting Adjectives
• Many limiting adjectives have also been studied as pronouns.
How do you tell when they are pronouns and when they are
adjectives?
-If a word is a pronoun, it will be renaming a person,
place, or thing.
Ex. That is a pencil. (That is renaming the pencil;
therefore, it is a pronoun.)
-If a word is an adjective, it will be pointing out a noun.
Ex. That pencil is big. (That is pointing out a pencil, and
pencil is a noun; therefore, it is an adjective.)
3.) Proper adjectives
- are descriptive adjectives but they are derived from
proper names.
- This means that they must always be capitalized.
- Proper adjectives sometimes are formed by adding a
suffix to the proper noun.
Examples:
• Indian customs
• French perfume
• Austrian cuisine
• Chinese checkers
• African violets
