2. 3 simple steps to using iBeacon
1. Create your content
Download the free Locly app and create an
account. Then start adding your own content,
which you can do via the app itself or online
at locly.com. You can include images, text,
videos, pdf files, Google forms, Bookry
widgets and much more. You can even link to
external websites and open content in other
apps on the iPad. Everything appears in the
Locly app automatically and you can control
visibility by who, where and when.

3. Setup beacon devices
Get your own custom
app for teachers,
students and parents
Next, publish your content so that it appears
in the Locly app. Then long-press on a card
and select the ’transmit beacon’ option. As if
by magic, your card will automatically appear
in the Locly app on any nearby devices and
will stay there until you choose to stop the
transmission.
To create exciting interactive displays,
learning zones and information points around
your school, simply long-press on a card and
assign it to a beacon device. When a student
approaches that device with their iPad, the
relevant content will show in the Locly app.
Beacon devices are battery powered (lasting
around 2 years) and you can set the range
from 10 cm to 50 metres.
Take your content out of the
standard locly app to create your
own customised app for the
Apple App Store. Your app will
benefit from having its own
branding, app icon and secure
login for all users. The app can
also be used to create interactive
school prospectuses and
open-day apps, both with beacon
support.
