These photos show people in Astam engaged in subsistence farming. Crops grown include rice, corn, soybeans, millet, greens, squash, beans, cucumbers, pumpkin and yellow-flowering mustard seed. Livestock are also vital to the agriculture in the village. Astam is the site of Logged On’s 2011 project to install a Computer Centre in the village for the benefit of the community and to improve the education outcomes of the local school children. The Logged On Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that uses computers and the internet to improve the state of education in less fortunate communities and to connect them to a world of ideas, services, entrepreneurial activities, and knowledge exchange.
