Introduction from the Executive Director
Our Masters in Finance
students are passionate about
making an impact in the world
of global finance. It is because
of this that I am proud to see
another strong and diverse
Masters in Finance cohort
graduate from the School and
start the next phase of their
career. It is a tribute to our
world-class faculty, a rigorous
professional development
programme and the wealth of
experience the students bring
that 81% of the class were
employed within four months
of graduating.
Learning in a Masters in Finance
classroom is a collaborative and
multi-cultural experience. With 38
nationalities represented in the
2012 class, the programme
reflects the international diversity
of the financial community.
This diversity together with the
interactive nature of the
programme, ensures students
are exposed to, and build on,
each other’s international
professional experiences.
With 25% and 18% of our students
moving into investment banking
and investment management
respectively, they continue to be
the most popular sectors of choice
for Masters in Finance students.
However, for the second year in
a row we have seen an increase
in major corporate organisations
recruiting our Masters in Finance
students (18% of graduates
compared to 14% in 2011) as
they recognise the need for
finance specialists with global
business knowledge.
With persistent challenges and
shifts in the finance industry, we
reviewed the programme format
and have since introduced a range
of specialist concentrations to
enable our students to customise
their learning to their chosen
sector. We increased the global
focus of the programme and
included an additional option of
a fourth term. The fourth term
gives students the opportunity
to undertake an internship or
international exchange as part of
their programme.
It is great to see that our on-going
commitment to quality is being
recognised; in 2012 the Masters
in Finance programme was
ranked number 1 globally for the
second year in a row, for post-
experience programmes, by the
Financial Times.
We truly value our relationships
with organisations that engage with
and recruit from the School and
therefore I would like to thank you
for your support. I hope you enjoy
reading this report.
