Audience
Theory
Lorraine Laconico
• Primary Audience
– Main target the movie aiming for
are mostly youth and family as it
can relate to many parents (aged
29 to 40s majority) that deals with
leaving their children that ages
from 5-12. And as for being the
child in the movie, it shows the
creativity and the intelligence of
the child to be able to escape the
thieves.
• Secondary Audience
– Although the movie was focused
on children and relates to the
parents, the movie can still be
considered for everyone to watch.
There are no age limits, neither
gender that can only be applicable
for the movie.
Audience Profile
Home Alone is a
Christmas family movie
that represents how the
child was left alone and
conquers troubles from
the house invaders
Audience Profile
• Primary Audience
– A movie that can be an attention
grabbing for the youth and horror
movie fanatics, there are no
specific gender the film can only
be allowed for. It is open to anyone
but can be restricted to 17 below
audiences.
• Secondary Audience
– This film focuses on 18 above of age
audience as it shows gruesome event
that cannot be considered as
inappropriate for children. It may have
age limit but this movie can fit in any
gender as the movie is only made to
entertain adults.
A horror film about a family
moving into a new house
along with their child in a
coma and begun to step their
selves to a dark
unexplainable events
Audience Profile
• Primary Audience
– The majority of audience that
grabs the attention of this
movie are men that ranges from
age 24-34 as it relates or
interests male the most because
of the behaviour the movie has
shown
• Secondary Audience

movie are youth that are age 18
below as it shows harsh
language and violence that
cannot be suitable for kids.
A sequel of the recent British
action movie that based from
the London’s biggest discreet
hitmen
Hypodermic Needle
• Definition – Is a type of theory that has linear communication that just like a
injection, the media messages are injected to the passive audience brain. It
concludes that there are no individual difference and we all have the same
response. This theory affects the way of thinking of the audience and sometimes
change their point of views.
• Example
• Radio Transmission – In world war in 1930’s radio transmission was the way of the
audience to have an information about the war when they believe that an alien
invasion was happening.
Uses and Gratifications Information
• Information
 I used CNN International to find and gather some information.
 I asked experts in the field for their professional opinion.
 Gathering information from media and professionals, helped
me in concluding a certain idea that gives me self satisfaction.
 I gained more knowledge and certainty in my own point of
view.
Uses and Gratifications Personal
Identity
• Personal Identity
 I believe that man and woman can’t be platonic friends. It will always have a great
chance that they will end up romantically.
 But as the time passes by, in my own experience, and what I see around me, some
man and woman can be platonic friends but there are some who doesn’t. There is
always a chance that one will fall for another.
 Social media has a great effect in this kind of topic, because people post about
their life and it can have a great impact in your own opinion or point of view in life.
It changes the way you think and view things personally.
Uses and Gratifications Integration and
Social Interaction
• Integration and Social Interaction
 I decided to join a group study online, to help me motivate myself and socialize
with other people in different cities and countries.
 I shared what I was studying for and some information because the others was
sharing too, finding our who was similar to who and who I’d be sharing a vibe with.
 The topic became about our lives and experiences that made some relate to
others and gain lessons.
 This was a good way to escape reality for a while and just be chilling with people
online then back to reality.
Uses and Gratifications Entertainment
• Entertainment
 I use music as a coping mechanism for when my mood seems
so down or I feel like I am very unmotivated.
 Music also helps me to relax even just for a while. It helps me
to be calm.
 Music gives me happiness especially when I can relate myself
to the song and I can just vibes with it.
Consumer Generated Content
• Example
- Starbucks
• Consumers or customers of Starbucks were asked to make a design or doodle of their own cup, and it earn them publicity
and strongly valued customer feedback.
- Coca-Cola
• Coca-Cola launched a campaign “share a coke” and this campaign gave them great exposure especially on twitter, and
increased their sales.
- Burberry
• Burberry, a British clothing brand company, launched a campaign wherein consumers upload and post their pictures which
ecommerce sales to 50%.
• What are the advantages to media producers?
It spreads the word fast all around the globe and it create individual differences, sometimes it can be subjective but sometimes
not. Media can easily affect a person’s way of thinking. It creates more awareness towards a certain topic that people should
know about.
• Why would the audience generate content?
To express how they feel and what they really want. It will help the producers to what the id the demand of the market. Audience
will say their demand and if it will have the majority of the market then their wish will be granted.
Psychographics
• Belongers
- This would be an example of a person that
gained weight but wants to lose again to feel like
they fit in the society.
• Achievers
- It represents the wealth because all people know
that this is a luxury brand that only rich people can afford.
• Emulators
- This is a great example of emulator, because people who
can afford the original but want to look like they can
buys the fake ones.
Psychographics
• Balanced
- This represents the goodness of other people.
Because every purchase of this product, it will help
a poor child.
• Needs Driven
- This product is one of the cheapest canned food in
the Philippines most people who buy this is the people
who just need to survive.
• Socially Conscious
- A: This is a great example that people want to help others
- B: This presents a nonsense idea but still posted.
