What is infrastrucure?

Infrastructure is basic physical and organizational structures
needed for the operation of a society or enterprise, or the services
and facilities necessary for an economy to function. It can be
generally defined as the set of interconnected structural elements
that provide framework supporting an entire structure of
                           development.

Amount spent on infrastructre in
     different countries
• INDIA INVESTS ONLY 5%
  OF GDP IN
  INFRASTRUCTURE.THIS
  IS VERY LESS WHEN WE
  COMPARE WITH
  INVESTMENT MADE BY
  OUR NEIGHBOURS IN
  THIS SECTOR
Traditionally, the government has been solely responsible
for developing the country’s infrastructure. But it is found
that the government in infrastructure is inadequate. Today ,
the private sector has started playing a very important role
                  in infrastructure development

 Growth rate of power is
    higher than growth rate
    of GDP
Challenges of power sector
 Electicity generated isn’t sufficent to feed growth
  rate
 We suffer losses due to wrong
  pricing, distribution and inefficeny of
  management
 Public unrest due to high tariffs
 Thermal stations which are the mainstay of
India’s power sector face shortage of raw
  materials.
 Population growth and economic development
are driving demand for energy faster
HEALTH INFRASTRUCTURE
 How is health assesed?
Health
 Health is not only
  absence of disease but
also the ability to realize Life

Importance of health infrastructure

Development of health infrastructure ensures healthy
manpower for production of goods and services.

Health infrastrucutre includes
• Doctors, nurses,profeessionals
• Beds and equipment
• Well established pharmaceutical industry
Role of govt in health infrastructure
Government keeps an eye
and regulates the following through broad policies:
Medical education
Adulteration
Drugs and poisons
Medical profession
Lunacy
 Private sector’s control two-fifth of total
    population
 70% of hospitals are run by private people
 60% dispenseries run by private players
 80% health care for out-patients provided by them
 13 lakh enterprises employ 22 lakh people

Since LPG many private players have come in
to set up state of the art health centers to promote
    heath tourism
Indian systems of medicine
• AYURVEDA
• YOGA
• UNANI
• SIDDHA
• NATUROPATHY
• HOMEOPATH
Facts that need to be taken into
             consideration
i. We spend only 1.4% of GDP on
     infrastrucuture which is inadequate
ii. India has 17% of worlds population but 20%
     of diseases.
iii. Half the diseases are accounted for by
     communicable diseases
iv. 20% of population uses public health care
     facilities which aren’t staffed properly..
Thank you
