1. Chapter 22
David escaped to the cave Adullam. His brethren and his father’s house went to him
there. Every one that was distress, in debt, and discontented went to him there.
David became a captain over them. There were about 400 men. 22.1, 2
David went to Mezpeh of Moab and asked the king of Moab to allow his mother and
father to stay there. They stayed there while David was in the hold. 22.3, 4
The prophet of Gad told David to get out of the hold and go to the land of Judah. David
went to the forest of Hareth in Judah. 22.5
Doeg, the Edomite, told Saul that the son of Jesse came to Nod. Ahimelech the son of
Ahitub inquired of the Lord for him, gave him victuals, and gave him the sword
of Goliath. 22.9, 10
The King sent for Ahimelech the priest and his father’s house. They were priests in Nod.
Saul said that they conspired against him by enquiring of the Lord for David and
by giving him bread and a sword. 22.11-13
Ahimelech said that David is the King’s faithful servant. 22.14, 15
The king told his footmen to slay the priests but they would not. Doeg slew the priests:
fourscore and five persons that were wearing a linen ephod. He smote the city of
Nod with the edge of his sword - killing men, women, children, sucklings, oxen,
asses, and sheep. 22.16-19
Abiathar – Ahimelech’s son escaped and went to David. 22.20
Chapter 23
The Philistines fought against Keilah and rob their threshing floors. David inquired of
the Lord 2 times and the Lord told him that the Philistines would be delivered into
his hands. David went to save Keilah. He fought against the Philistines and took
away their cattle. He smote them with a great slaughter. 23.1-5
When Saul heard that David was in Keilah, he thought that God had delivered David into
his hand because the city of Keilah is shut in by gates and bars. 23.7
David got the ephod from Abiathar that Abiathar took when he escaped and inquired of
the Lord. The Lord told him that Saul will come after him and that the people of
Keilah will deliver him up to Saul. David and his 600 men departed from Keilah
and went to a mountain in the wilderness of Ziph. 23.9-14
Jonathan went to David in the woods and strengthened his hand in God. Jonathan said –
fear not, my father shall not find you, you will be king over Israel, and I will be
next unto you. They made a covenant before the Lord. 23.16-18
The Ziphites went to Saul in Gibeah and told Saul that David is hiding with them in
strong hold, in the wood, in the hill of Hachilah which is on the south of
Jeshimon. Come O king and we will deliver him to you. 23.19, 20
David and his men were in the wilderness of Maon. Saul pursued after David. Saul and
his men surrounded David and his men on the mountain but then a messenger
came to Saul. The messenger said that the Philistines had invaded the land so
Saul stopped pursuing David and went after the Philistines. They called that
Place Selahammahlekoth. David then went to Engedi and stayed in strong holds.

2. Chapter 24
After Saul fought the Philistines, he was told that David was in the wilderness of Engedi.
He took 3,000 chosen men out of Israel and went to seek David upon the rock of
the wild goats. Saul came to the sheepcotes where there was a cave and he went
in to cover his feet. David and his men were in the side of the cave. David cut off
the skirt of Saul’s robe privily; afterwards, his heart smote him because he cut off
the skirt of Saul’s robe. David did not hurt Saul. 24.1-5
After Saul left the cave, David cried out to him, stooped with his face to the earth, and
bowed his head. He said that today the Lord had delivered you up to me but mine
eye spared you because you are the Lords anointed. David showed him the skirt
of his robe. David said - the Lord will avenge me of you but I will not touch you.
24.8-15
Saul said - is this the voice of my son David? He wept. He said - you are more righteous
than me because you have rewarded me good when I have rewarded you evil.
The Lord will reward you good for what you have done for me today. I know that
you will be king and that the kingdom of Israel will be established in you hand.
Swear that you will not cut off my seed after me and that you will not destroy my
name out of my father’s house. 24.16-22
Chapter 25
Samuel died and the people buried him in his house at Ramah. David went to the
wilderness of Paran. 25.1
Nabal lived in Maon. He was churlish and evil in his doings. He was of the house of
Caleb. He had 3,000 sheep and 1,000 goats in Carmel. He was shearing his
sheep. David sent 10 young men to greet Nabal and to ask him for food because
they cared for his sheep and goats in the wilderness. Nabal refused to give them
flesh, water, and bread that he prepared for his shearers. 25.2-11
Abigail (Nabal’s wife) had good understanding and a beautiful countenance. One of
Nabal’s men told her that Nabal railed on David’s men. David was good to them
while they were keeping the sheep. He was like a wall unto them both night and
day. Abigail hurriedly took 200 loaves, 5 sheep ready dressed, 5 measures of
parched corn, 100 clusters of raisins, and 200 cakes of fig. She laid them on asses
and met David on the way. 25.3, 14-20
David and his men were on their way to destroy Nabal and his household. He would not
have left unto Nabal any that pisses against the wall because he kept Nabal’s
sheep in the wilderness so that none of them were missing and Nabal had refused
to give him food. 25.13, 21-22
Abigail met David on the way. She fell on her face at David’s feet and bowed to the
ground. She blessed David and cursed his enemies. 25.22-35
Nabal had a feast and he was very drunk. In the morning, Abigail told him about David.
His heart died within him and he became as a stone. The Lord smote
Nabal and he died 10 days later. David took Abigail as his wife. She took 5 damsels
to serve her. Saul gave Michal David’s wife to Phati the son of Laish. 25.36-44

3. Chapter 26
The Ziphites came to Saul in Gibeah and told him that David hides in the hill of Hachilah
which is before Jeshimon. Saul and 3,000 chosen men went to the wilderness of
Ziph and pitched in the hill of Hachilah. David went where Saul pitched and saw
where Saul and Abner laid. They laid in the trench and the people pitched around
them. 26.1-5
David and Abishai (the son of Zeruiah) went down to Saul while he was sleeping. Saul
had his spear stuck in the ground at his bolster. Abishai wanted to smite Saul but
David said: destroy him not. They took Saul’s spear and his curse of water. A
deep sleep from the Lord fell on Saul and his men so they knew nothing. 26.6-12
David cried to Abner saying: someone came to destroy the king. You are worthy of
death because you have not kept your master the Lord’s anointed. David showed
them Saul’s spear and curse of water. 26.13-16
Saul said - is this thy voice my son David. I will no more do thee harm because my soul
was precious in your eye this day. Blessed be my son David thou shall both do
great things and prevail. 26.17-25
David said to Saul – the king of Israel come out to seek a flea, as when one hunt a
partridge in the mountains. David told Saul to send one of his young men for his
spear and curse of water. 26.20, 22
Chapter 27
David escaped to the land of the Philistines because he feared that one day Saul would
kill him. David and his 600 men went to Achish the son of Maoch, King of Gath.
27.1, 2
David, his 2 wives (Ahinoam, the Jezreelitess and Abigail, the Carmelites, Nabal’s wife),
his men, and their households lived with Achish at Gath. 27.1-3
When Saul heard that David fled to Gath, he did not search for him anymore. 27.4
David asked Achish for a place in some town in the country because he did not want to
live in the royal city anymore. Achish gave him Ziklag. 27.5-6
David lived in the land of the Philistines for one year and four months. 27.7
David and his men invaded the Geshurites, the Gezrites, and the Amalekites. They smote
the land and left neither man nor woman alive to tell. They took away the sheep,
oxen, asses, camels, and apparel. Then they went to Achish. Achish asked where
they make a road today. David said against the south of Judah, the south of the
Jerahmeelites, and the south of the Kenites. 27.8-12
Achish believed David. He thought that Israel hated him and he would be his servant.

4. Chapter 28
Achish asked David and him men to fight for the Philistines. He made David head of his
army forever. The Philistines pitched in Shunem and Israel pitched in Gilboa.
28.1-4
Saul inquired of the Lord but the Lord would not answer him by dream, or by urim, or by
prophets. Saul had put away those who had familiar spirit and the wizards out of
Israel. He found a woman that had a familiar spirit at Endor. He disguised
himself by putting on other clothes and took 2 of his men with him. They went to
her at night. He asked her to bring up Samuel. When the woman saw Samuel,
she cried out to Saul: why hast thou deceived me? Thou art Saul. The woman
saw gods ascending out of the earth. She said that an old man cometh up and he
is covered with a mantle. Saul stooped with his face to the ground and bowed
himself. 28.3, 5-14
Samuel said to Saul: why hast thou disquieted me to bring me up. The Lord has
departed from you and has become your enemy. The Lord has rent the kingdom
out of your hand and has given it to your neighbor David. Because you obeyed
not the voice of the Lord nor executed his fierce wrath upon Amalek, the Lord has
done this to you. The Philistines will win the battle. Tomorrow, you and your
sons will be with me. 28.15-19
Saul fell straightway along the earth. He was afraid because of the words of Samuel.
There was no strength in him because he had not eaten that day and night. The
woman with the familiar spirit killed her fat calf and kneaded flour to bake
unleavened bread for Saul to eat. 28.20-25
Chapter 29
The Philistines gathered their armies together at Aphek and the Israelites gathered at
Jezreel. The Philistines armies passed on by hundreds and by thousands but
David and his men were in the rear with Achish. 29.1-3
The Princes of the Philistines were angry with Achish for bringing David and his
men to battle. They thought that David and his men might be their adversary in
battle. 29.4, 5
Achish said to David – I have found no evil in you but the Lord’s do not favor
you. Return, and go in peace, that you displease not the Lords of the Philistines.
You are good in my sight, as an angel of God. As soon as you have light in the
morning, depart. 29.6-11

5. Chapter 30
When David came to Ziklag, the Amalekites had invaded the south and Ziklag and
burned it with fire. David and his men’s wives, sons, and daughters were taken
captive and carried away. David and his men wept until they had no more power
to weep. David’s 2 wives were Ahinoam and Abigail. 30.1-5
David was distress because the people wanted to stone him. The people’s souls were
grieved. David encouraged himself in the Lord his God. 30.6
Abiathar the priest brought the ephod to David. David inquired of the Lord and the Lord
told him to Pursue because he will overtake the amalekites and without fail
recover everything. 30.7, 8
David and his men went until they came to the brook Besor. Since 200 of his men were
too faint to continue they stayed by the brook Besor while David and 400 of his
men continued to pursue the Amalekites. 30.9, 10
They found an Egyptian in the field. They gave him bread, water, a cake of figs, and two
clusters of raisins. After he ate, his spirit came again to him. He had no food and
water for 3 days and nights. He was a servant to the Amalekites but his master
left him 3 days ago because he fell sick. 30.11-13
The Amalekites invaded the south of the Cherethites, the coast which belongs to Judah,
the south of Caleb, and they burned Ziklag with fire. 30.14
The Egyptian that David found in the field made him swear that he would not kill him or
give him back to his master before he showed him where to find the Amalekites.
The Amalekites were eating, drinking, and dancing. David smote them from twilight
until evening the next day. Only 400 young men who rode on camels escaped.
David recovered everything: wives, sons, and daughters. He took their flocks,
herds, and cattle as his spoil. 30.16-20
The 200 men who were too faint to go with David who stayed by the brook Besor came
to meet him. The wicked men of Belial who went with David to fight the
Amalekites did not want to share the spoil with them. They only wanted to give
them their wives and children and make them leave. David refused and shared
the Spoil equally with the men who went to battle and the men who did not.
30.21-25
David sent spoil to the elders of Judah, his friends, the places that he used to hunt, and
many different places. 30.26-31
Chapter 31
The men of Israel fled before the Philistines and fell down slain in mount Gilboa. The
Philistines slew Saul’s sons: Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua. The archers
hit Saul so he was wounded. Saul begged his armor bearer to thrust him through
with his sword but he would not so he fell upon a sword. The Philistines came to
live in the cities of Israel. 31.1-7
The Philistines cut off Saul’s head and stripped on his armor. They put his armor in the
house of Ashtaroth and fastened his body to the wall f Bethshan. The valiant men
of Jebsh-gilead traveled all night to take Saul and his son’s bodies from the wall
of Bethshan. They burned the bodies, buried the bones under a tree in Jebesh, and
fasted for 7 days. 31.8-13
