PRACTICAL 12. The Magic Bag Project:
Lesson Plan: “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle (1969).
Students’profile: Grade 5 (C&D), beginning level of English language proficiency.
State primary school. Two 40-minute classes per week. Course C has 23 students
(12 girls and 11 boys) and course D has 22 students (6 girls and 16 boys)
Timetable: Tuesday and Thursday, 15:15-14:55
Objectives:
By the end of the two lessons students will be able to:
• Listen to the story read by a native speaker and understand it with the help of the
teacher.
• Enjoy stories in English.
• Revise prior knowledge about days of the week and food.
• Answer questions orally.
•Be in real and direct contact with a foreign person.
• Think about national identity.
• Reflect about cultural differences as regards food.
•Be aware of the existence of other cultures different from their own and respect
them.
• Work cooperatively to express their national identity through art.

foodfromArgentina(asado,locro,choripanes,empanadas,
mate y tortas fritas,dulce de leche yalfajores,pastelitos).Each
groupwill receive agreencardboardcircle whichrepresents
one part of the bodyof the caterpillar.There,studentswill
have to write the dayand draw the foodtheywere givento.
