BLOOM’S TAXONOMY: Get ready to write those lesson plans…  EDU 216: Foundations of Education  with Professor Maskol
TAXONOMY: What do you already know about taxonomy? What is it??? The science or technique of classification.
So… who is “Bloom?” Benjamin Bloom is “old school…” He led a committee of colleges in 1956.  They developed: THREE DOMAINS OF LEARNING: *Cognitive: mental skills (Knowledge) *Affective: growth in feelings or emotional areas (Attitude) *Psychomotor: manual or physical skills (Skills)
As educators…  What domain do you think we’ll focus our attention on??? COGNITIVE domain…  You got it right!  
Benjamin’s work helps us… Classify the verbs we use in the cognitive domain to promote higher order thinking skills in children. Just like the animal world has a hierarchy, so do the types of questions we ask children that affect their learning… Pretty cool, huh???
Bloom’s Taxonomy gives educators powerful verbs that help… Guide their lesson plans and shoot for higher order thinking skills for our students!!!
Bloom’s Taxonomy has changed… Old Bloom’s Taxonomy Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy (What WE’LL focus on…)
Now… you KNOW you’re not going to take notes all period, right… But first, let me pass out some important papers you’ll most likely use throughout your high school, college, AND teaching years… Think of these as “cheat sheets!” 
Now… you should know me well enough by now to know that… We are going to apply something abstract to the real world… ARE YOU READY FOR THE CHALLENGE??? Love, Professor Maskol
