The concept mainly come through a Pilot Project, back in 1976, under the Economics Professor of CU Mr. Md. Younus.
The project was initiated in Jabura Village, in Chittagong, to find out the possibility of Banking activity among the poor people.

The concept mainly come through a Pilot Project, back in 1976, under the Economics Professor of CU Mr. Md. Younus. The project was initiated in Jabura Village, in Chittagong, to find out the possibility of Banking activity among the poor people.
As of December, 2015, in Banglaesh, it has 8.81 million borrowers, 97 percent of whom are women.
With 2,568 branches, GB provides services in 81,392 villages, covering more than 97 percent of the total villages in Bangladesh.
