INTRODUCTION
Nagarhole National Park , also known as Rajiv Gandhi
National Park, is a national park located in Kodagu
district and Mysore district in Karnataka state in South
India.
This park was declared the thirty seventh Project Tiger tiger
reserve in 1999. It is part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.
The Western Ghats Nilgiri Sub-Cluster of
6,000 km2 (2,300 sq mi), including all of Nagarhole
National Park, is under consideration by
the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for selection as
a World Heritage Site.
The park has rich forest cover, small streams, hills, valleys and
waterfalls. The park has a healthy tiger-predator ratio, with
many tigers, Indian bison and elephants.

 Sanctuary n the year 1955 to National
Park in 1983.

GENERAL
INFORMATION
The park ranges the foothills of the Western Ghats spreading
down the Brahmagiri hills and south towards Kerala state. It
lies between the latitudes 12°15'37.69"E and longitudes
76°17'34.4"N. The park covers 643 km2 (248 sq mi) located to
the north-west of Bandipur National Park. The Kabini
reservoir separates the two parks. Elevations of the park
range from 687–960 m (2,254–3,150 ft). It is 50 km (31 mi)
from the major city of Mysore
Together with the adjoining Bandipur National
Park (870 km2 (340 sq mi)), Mudumalai National
Park (320 km2 (120 sq mi)) and Wayanad Wildlife
Sanctuary (344 km2 (133 sq mi)), it forms the largest protected
area in Southern India, totaling 2,183 km2(843 sq mi).
TIME TO VISIT
Nagarhole National Park is open for public
entry all the way through the year. But
the best time to visit the Nagarhole
National Park is from April to May, when
the waterholes are dry and the animals
come out to visit the lake. Nevertheless,
the weather conditions are more pleasing
from November to February.
HOW TO REACH..??
By Air: The nearest airport for Nagarhole National
Park is Mysore. Mysore Airport is 95 km from the
park. Mysore in turn is connected by Bangalore
by means of regular flights. Bangalore is
an International Airport and hence easily
accessible by all national and
international flights. Bangalore is around 140 km
from Mysore.
From Bangalore Airport the time by road to
Nagarhole National Park is 5 hours.

By Train: The nearest railway station
for Nagarhole National Park is again Mysore. As I
said, Mysore is around 95 km from the park. Mysore
is connected to Bangalore which in turn is connected
to all the major cities in India.
By Road: Nagarhole National Park is connected to
all the cities via Mysore and Coorg.
The Karnataka State Transport buses connects
Nagarhole National Park with all other cities in the
state. Additionally many private buses also ply
regularly from Bangalore, Mysore, Madikeri to
Nagarhole National Park.
BY ROAD: FROM MUMBAI
Mammals: Elephant, Jackal, Tiger, Panther,
Gaur,Muntjac,Sambar,Spotteddeer,
Mongoose, Civet cat, Hyena, and Sloth Bear.
Reptiles: King Cobra, Krait, Python, Viper,
Tortoise, Monitor Lizard ,Toads etc.
The main trees found are Rosewood, Teak,
Sandalwood and Silver oak

Rajeev Gandhi National Park the Nagarhole
Wildlife offers a sanctuary to a large variety of
birds. In fact that there are about 250 species of
birds that stay at this national park.
Some of the commonly viewed birds at the
Nagarhole National Park are - the blue-bearded
bee-eater, Malabar trogon, Malabar whistling
thrush, crested serpent-eagle, crested hawkeagle, Malabar pied-hornbill, Common Hawk
Cuckoo, Changeable Hawk Eagle, Indian Roller,
Indian reed, Woodpeckers, Warblers, Grey jungle
fowl, water fowl, scarlet minivet, ospreys, ducks,
herons, red vented bulbul, ring dove, common
babbler, scinaitar babbler, loriekeet, red
whiskered bulbul, biyth's myna and other birds.

Reptiles commonly found here are mugger (Crocodylus
palustris), common vine snake (Ahaetulla nasutus),
common wolf snake (Lycodon aulicus), rat snake
(Ptyas mucosus), bamboo pit viper (Trimeresurus
gramineus), Russell's viper (Daboia russellii),
common krait (Bangarus caeruleus), Indian rock
python (Python molurus), Indian monitor lizard
(Varanus bengalensis) and the common toad (Bufo
melanostictus

ACCOMMODATION
Kabini River Lodge has a colonial style
architecture equipped to accommodate 50
persons at a time. Fourteen spacious,
colonial style double rooms with modern
amenities, six twin-bedded cottages in
sylvan surroundings and five tented
cottages with attached modern bath

comfort.(But there is no A/c, or T.V. in any
of the accommodation).

Viceroy's building houses our well-equipped
bar. There is also a large, charming room
exclusively for seminars, meetings with
multimedia projector and other conferencing
facilities. Our communal dining area called the
Ghol Ghar (circular, open-to-sides gazebo)
overlooks River Kabini and is the perfect place
for guests to share their experiences of the
day with each other

The Resort takes special care to cater to the
varied tastes of an international clientele. The
buffet meals include Indian and Continental
menus.
Food is an integral part of every holiday. At
Kabini River Lodge, we pamper your taste buds
with delicious and piping hot buffet of Indian,
Chinese or Continental cuisine. Fresh Tandoori
preparations are offered daily.
SAFARI
Perhaps nowhere else in India can one see so
much wildlife. Sighting of elephants, sambhar,
spotted deer, gaur, wild boar, sloth bear, wild
dogs, etc., are almost assured, while if one is
lucky, a tiger or a panther too, could be sighted.
Our clients are permitted to shoot, not with
guns but with camera and video. The sighting of
wildlife in their eco-system creates awareness
and respect among the humans towards other
life forms.

  • 6. INTRODUCTION Nagarhole National Park , also known as Rajiv Gandhi National Park, is a national park located in Kodagu district and Mysore district in Karnataka state in South India. This park was declared the thirty seventh Project Tiger tiger reserve in 1999. It is part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. The Western Ghats Nilgiri Sub-Cluster of 6,000 km2 (2,300 sq mi), including all of Nagarhole National Park, is under consideration by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for selection as a World Heritage Site. The park has rich forest cover, small streams, hills, valleys and waterfalls. The park has a healthy tiger-predator ratio, with many tigers, Indian bison and elephants.
  • 8. HISTORY …. Nagarahole is named after Cobra River  Situated in the state of Karnataka  Sanctuary n the year 1955 to National Park in 1983. 
  • 9. GENERAL INFORMATION The park ranges the foothills of the Western Ghats spreading down the Brahmagiri hills and south towards Kerala state. It lies between the latitudes 12°15'37.69"E and longitudes 76°17'34.4"N. The park covers 643 km2 (248 sq mi) located to the north-west of Bandipur National Park. The Kabini reservoir separates the two parks. Elevations of the park range from 687–960 m (2,254–3,150 ft). It is 50 km (31 mi) from the major city of Mysore Together with the adjoining Bandipur National Park (870 km2 (340 sq mi)), Mudumalai National Park (320 km2 (120 sq mi)) and Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary (344 km2 (133 sq mi)), it forms the largest protected area in Southern India, totaling 2,183 km2(843 sq mi).
  • 10. TIME TO VISIT Nagarhole National Park is open for public entry all the way through the year. But the best time to visit the Nagarhole National Park is from April to May, when the waterholes are dry and the animals come out to visit the lake. Nevertheless, the weather conditions are more pleasing from November to February.
  • 11. HOW TO REACH..?? By Air: The nearest airport for Nagarhole National Park is Mysore. Mysore Airport is 95 km from the park. Mysore in turn is connected by Bangalore by means of regular flights. Bangalore is an International Airport and hence easily accessible by all national and international flights. Bangalore is around 140 km from Mysore. From Bangalore Airport the time by road to Nagarhole National Park is 5 hours.
  • 12. Contd… By Train: The nearest railway station for Nagarhole National Park is again Mysore. As I said, Mysore is around 95 km from the park. Mysore is connected to Bangalore which in turn is connected to all the major cities in India. By Road: Nagarhole National Park is connected to all the cities via Mysore and Coorg. The Karnataka State Transport buses connects Nagarhole National Park with all other cities in the state. Additionally many private buses also ply regularly from Bangalore, Mysore, Madikeri to Nagarhole National Park.

  • 21. Birds Rajeev Gandhi National Park the Nagarhole Wildlife offers a sanctuary to a large variety of birds. In fact that there are about 250 species of birds that stay at this national park. Some of the commonly viewed birds at the Nagarhole National Park are - the blue-bearded bee-eater, Malabar trogon, Malabar whistling thrush, crested serpent-eagle, crested hawkeagle, Malabar pied-hornbill, Common Hawk Cuckoo, Changeable Hawk Eagle, Indian Roller, Indian reed, Woodpeckers, Warblers, Grey jungle fowl, water fowl, scarlet minivet, ospreys, ducks, herons, red vented bulbul, ring dove, common babbler, scinaitar babbler, loriekeet, red whiskered bulbul, biyth's myna and other birds.

Reptiles commonly found here are mugger (Crocodylus palustris), common vine snake (Ahaetulla nasutus), common wolf snake (Lycodon aulicus), rat snake (Ptyas mucosus), bamboo pit viper (Trimeresurus gramineus), Russell's viper (Daboia russellii), common krait (Bangarus caeruleus), Indian rock python (Python molurus), Indian monitor lizard (Varanus bengalensis) and the common toad (Bufo melanostictus
  • 27. Kabini River Lodge has a colonial style architecture equipped to accommodate 50 persons at a time.
