2. Universal Design Defined
• Also refereed to as
“Inclusive design”, this
concept refers to the
broad spectrum of ideas
meant to produce
environments which are
inherently accessible to
older people or to people
with disabilities.
3. Individualized Education Program (IEP)
• This program describes
how the student
learns, and what
teachers or other
educatos are capable of
doing in order to help
the student.
• The IEP is intended to
help special needs
students reach goals
they would be not be
able to reach under
normal circumstances.
4. Special Needs
• This is a term used to describe those who lack
the diagnostic or functional development, and
thus require assistance whether that be
medical, mental or psychological.
5. Special Education
• This is the practice of
educating students with
special needs regardless of
their individual differences.
• All public schools in the
U.S. are mandated to have
programs that serve the
needs of those who have
learning disabilities or who
have been deemed to have
special needs by a
specified IEP.
