of Instruction
   An Overview

  students, builds curiosity,
         and enhances
        their conceptual
     understanding from a
      scientific approach.

Discuss What things will the
teacher need to facilitate to make
the activity successful?
A Closer Look at
          the 5Es:
   Analyze and Compare the
  Exemplar/EITG 5-E Lessons
        from CScope

       Discuss & Write
characteristics of the “5Es” on
 the posters around the room

 Think About: the teacher/student involvement, the
types of activities, the types and levels of questions,
      the environment, the alignment to the SE
Look at the CSCOPE 5E
 Resource, discuss what
characteristics were not
observed in these specific
        lessons?
NOTES:
• All 5Es do not necessarily occur every day
• A formative assessment should be
  incorporated into all parts of the 5E model
• Teachers direct teach is VERY minimal:
  deliberate questioning strategies should
  guide discussions
• Any one of the Es may occur more than
  once within a complete lesson cycle
• A complete lesson cycle will include all 5Es
  even if it is over the course of days
• A 5E lesson must align to the SE and MUST
  eventually reach the depth of the verb
• Guided practice must be embedded into
  the lesson before independent practice is
  assigned to evaluate students- “Practice
  makes permanent”- Sousa
