Describe the teaching environment conditions for which you were designing your triaged presentation in the description area. Reflect on the design decisions your team made for revising the ineffective presentation you were given in class, based upon your review and understanding of lecture content and the Edward Tufte "PowerPoint is Evil" article. Teaching environment conditions: The course itself is taught in a large lecture hall where there is a computer projector, but problems with controlling the lighting source The first aspect we took care of was the background and font color – because there are problems with controlling the lighting source, we chose a color scheme with a light background (light green) and dark (black) font. We chose a light green because it was light enough that it was appealing to the eye, and when we think of the environment, we also think of the color green! After that, we chose a uniform font throughout the presentation, removing any WordArt or distracting transitions. The class is taught in a big lecture hall with a computer projector, so we changed most font sizes so that larger font would be used and all students could properly see the information. In addition, we went through and made the headings, the text, and the footer text consistent in size (meaning all headings were the same font size, etc.). We made the design simple so as not to take away from the content. After that was taken care of, we focused on the content of the slides, adding images that enhanced the content, as well as deleting a couple slides or pieces of information that we believed added nothing of value to the presentation. Finally, the organization of the slide content was amended – long paragraphs were shortened and simplified, some repetitive information was removed, and the way in which the content was presented was also tweaked to look more appealing.
