Michael Jordan was born in 1963 in Brooklyn, New York and grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina. He showed an early talent for baseball but became interested in basketball in high school. Jordan attended the University of North Carolina where he helped lead the team to the 1982 NCAA championship. After being drafted by the Chicago Bulls, Jordan had a legendary professional career winning six NBA championships and earning many honors including five MVP awards. He is widely considered one of the greatest basketball players of all time.

basketball, but since he was only 5 foot 11 inches, skinny, and a
sophomore, he was cut from the varsity basketball team.
•His coach gave him playing time on the junior varsity team,
where he averaged 25 points a game.
•The following summer, he grew to 6 foot 3 inches tall and began
his journey to greatness.
