Windows, Mirrors, and Stories for All *
Credit for “windows and mirrors” terminology goes to Dr. Rudine Sims Bishop, Professor Emerita of Education at The
Ohio State University, whose seminal essay “Mirrors, Windows, and Sliding Glass Doors” was originally published in 1990.
Titles purchased for the First Book Marketplace reflect our consistent and intentional
commitment to diversity and inclusion. Our ongoing curation and diversity-focused
partnerships form the basis of First Book’s Stories for All Project™.

WHAT WILL AN OMG BOOKS AWARD HELP YOU ACHIEVE?
How will your school or program
operationalize books and book credits?
How many books will be purchased?
How many families will be impacted?
Anecdotal stories of success
How will access to these credits impact
the children and families you serve?
What impact will the resources and
execution have on collaborations with
other local partners or for family
engagement activities?
All programs will be asked to share
impact stories and data from their
communities so we can tell the
larger story of how this funding has
made a difference across the
country.
What else?
OMG Books as a
change-maker
Individuals and programs that participate must be prepared to report on impact
18
ONGOING PARTNERSHIP: How can First Book continue to
partner with all stakeholders in your state?
While OMG Books provides credits for only books or eBooks, First book is
MORE than just books! We offer a wide variety of resources including
school supplies, winter coats for children, personal care items etc.
First Book has worked closely with experts to research and
design specialized toolkits and aligned resources to help
educators and providers overcome barriers to educational
equity.
First Book has compiled a knowledge bank of proprietary insights that
aggregate and amplify the voice of those serving children in need.
Voice of members + Analytics = Impact
