                   of Fairtrade International in line with its stated

To develop of a gender strategy for Fairtrade

Target 2012:
Gender             •   2 main arguments for addressing gender inequalities:
                            1. Economic arguments (productivity, efficiency)

                            2. Rights based arguments (equality, justice)



                   •   Little systematic gender analysis has been carried out.
                   •   Possibility that existing gender inequalities are reinforced by
                       Fairtrade: men more likely to access and control benefits.
                   • In general Fairtrade so far is relatively gender blind.

                     •   Propose a process for new services development of FLO-
                         CERT including role/approval by Boards FLO eV/FLOCERT)

  • 15. To develop of a gender strategy for Fairtrade Target 2012: Gender • 2 main arguments for addressing gender inequalities: 1. Economic arguments (productivity, efficiency) 2. Rights based arguments (equality, justice) • Little systematic gender analysis has been carried out. • Possibility that existing gender inequalities are reinforced by Fairtrade: men more likely to access and control benefits. • In general Fairtrade so far is relatively gender blind. © Fairtrade 2012 SPU introduction 15
