1. What to Consider When You're Selecting a Home Phone Plan
There are literally thousands of phone providers you can choose from. In one local area, there might
only be a handful of traditional phone companies, but once you include VoIP providers, the choices
become endless. How do you choose the right home phone plans? Here are some of the most important
things to consider.
Cost
First and foremost, look at the cost of your plan. Look at what other phone companies are offering for
similar costs. How does the plan compare?
Make sure to look online for special offers. Often time's you can save a lot of money just by ordering
online instead of by phone.
Bundles
Are there bundles you can order that'll bring down the cost of your phone line and the cost of other
services? For example, bundling broadband internet or cable TV with your phone line can often give you
30%+ cost reductions across the table.
Included Features
What features come included with your home phone plan? Do you get a voicemail, 3 way calling and
caller ID for free? Or do you have to pay extra for those features?
Included Phone Equipment
Does your phone line come with equipment? Most traditional phone companies are behind the curve in
this department. They'll only install a phone line for you, without providing a phone. Modern
companies, including VoIP companies, will often provide a high quality phone for you free of charge.
Terms and Contracts
Do you have to sign a contract when you purchase the phone line? If so, how long is the contract for?
What happens if you move out or break the contract before it's over?
These are some of the most important things to keep in mind as you evaluate your home phone plan.
Make sure you compare at least 2-3 plans before making your final decision.
