Rhinoceros
 Rhinoceros are often called as rhino
 They belong to the “Rhincerotidae” family
 They are usually identified by their big
size and their horns
 Rhinoceros have five different species
They are being haunted because of their horns which
has a high price in black market
TYPES OF RHINO
 there are five different species of rhinos
namely
 white rhinoceros
 Black rhinoceros
 Indian rhinoceros
 Javan rhinoceros
 Sumatran rhinoceros
white rhinos are also called square lipped
rhinos
 they are actually called grey in color
 these are very largest and numerous in size
These are from the south Africa
 the white rhinos have tow sub division
i) northern white rhino
ii)southern white rhino
 but the northern white are only 7 existing
Black rhinoceros
 it is two horned rhinos
 it is native to the central and eastern
Africa
An adult typically weighs from 800 to
1,400 kg
 "Rhinoceros" bicornis was used to
refer to the African rhinos
 they are became critically endangered
And took a place in the red data list
Javan rhinoceros
 Javan rhinos were also called sunda rhinos
 the javan rhinos is the one which has very short
horn
 the Sunda rhinoceros ranged from the islands
of Java and Sumatra throughout Southeast Asia and
into India and China.
 It is a critically endangered .It now becaming
most the rarest large mammal on earth
 with a population of as few as 40 in Ujung Kulon
National Park at the western tip of Java in Indonesia
SUMATRAN RHINOCEROS
 it is the smallest among the rhino family
 average weight is about 700-800kg
 like African rhinos it also has two horns
 Members of the species once inhabited
rainforests, swamps & cloud forests in India
They became endangered by only six in
population
Location
 most of the rhinoceros are in ASSAM state
found in kaziranga national park
 Pobitora reserve forest( has highest
rate of rhino)
 Orange national park
Laokhowa reserve forest
Manas national park
main reasons for extinction
 haunting for horns……
PRODUCTS FROM THE RHINO
 Chinese medicine (horn)
 their is used for making bags, balls,
steeve steel jacket, shoes (skin)
 wall hanging(horn)
 hookah used for smoking(horn)
