Dear Madisonville Community,
My name is Kenecia. I am a part of the Lighthouse Community School Garden Project.
My school started this project about a year ago. We started this project to beautify the
neighborhood and have something positive to do throughout the school year and in the summer. I am
writing this letter to give you an idea of what has been going on with this project and answer a couple of questions you, as the community, might have.
WHAT?
What will the community see?
The community will see us in the neighborhood maintaining vacant lots and trying to beautify our surrounding area.
Also you should look forward to spring planting. We hope to be selling our goods at local area events to help bring our neighbors good, healthy, and nutritious foods, grown locally.

WHERE?
Where is the garden project taking place?
The Urban Agriculture class meets each day during school, for one hour. As well we have a summer team that employs students and other teens during the summer to maintain the gardens until class resumes in the fall.
Students work all school year and during the summer, maintaining the garden spaces and doing “guerrilla” gardening,” or random acts of beautification and cleaning up around the community.
Lighthouse Community School
WHO?
Who is involved in this project?
Lighthouse Community School started this project and will continue to grow it with the help of Lighthouse Youth Services, Lighthouse Community School, and those in the community.
Mr. Adam and Mr. Tim are teachers at Lighthouse Community School, and are overseeing the garden project, with the help of Steve Rock, a volunteer from the EPA.
WHEN?
We already have a nice garden in our parking lot, growing many different types of vegetables and flowers. As well over the next few months you will be seeing us develop our newly acquired property at the corner of Ward and Chandler.
